Any other beetroot faces out there?

Hi everyone, I'm after some tips and advice to combat the beetroot-face I get every time I go running. My face gets really hot and basically goes bright red.

I have always had this problem ever since childhood - I was always the kid who came in from playtime looking like someone had injected red paint under my skin Confused

I don't think it's a sign of unfitness as I used to play loads of sports as a teen and still had the red-face. It's just a bit embarrassing!
Is it just something I need to suck up and live with or is there anything I can do to reduce it?

I am 42 and ALWAYS go beetroot red & sweat loads (think hair soaking as if I've walked out the shower) - I am quite fit, it's just what I do.
Sorry - it's a 'live with it' from me Smile

ElphabaTheGreen · 20/02/2015 08:33

I get that.

Short of getting sympathetic fibres to your face severed (

leadrightfoot · 24/02/2015 09:25

Oh yes, bright red dripping in about 15 mins into workout
But reckon my recovery time is fast enough to not worry about it.

Fcukfifa · 24/02/2015 09:34

I get a bright red face along with white rings around my eyes and mouth.

It's only when I've been going for a whole though. Ds gets it too.

Jumbee · 24/02/2015 09:36

I get this, too, as do both my DC (who are mixed race Grin...poor things got my tomato face genes)

Not sure what you can do about it really, other than embrace it and try not to let it bother you. A big glass of water and a shower after exercise sorts me out.

AlmaMartyr · 24/02/2015 09:41

I get this too. It does go down pretty quickly afterwards normally. I was once diagnosed with acne rosacea years ago and have wondered if it's part of the same thing. I just embrace it, it shows I'm working hard :)

HootyMcTooty · 24/02/2015 09:48

I get this too, but it tends to go away pretty quickly.

FinallyHere · 24/02/2015 09:59

Embrace it. Smooth some oil on your face before you start and ther you go, a facial treatment as it heats up. Gentle cleanser and rinse in your shower afterwards, all good.

Oh my! Hate it! Did 4k on the mill at the gym on Thursday.my friend was there and she looked as if she walked it. Angry

Dafspunk · 01/03/2015 17:21

I'm the same and just think 'fuck it - I'm working hard and it shows, nothing to be embarrassed about'.

Also, if it helps at all, whenever I see anyone red-faced/sweating/panting, all I ever think is 'good on you, go for it!'. I never ever think anyone looks really ugly or terrible. They just look sporty and should be admired for it.

Dafspunk · 01/03/2015 17:23

Plus I'd rather be fit and temporarily red-faced (drenched in sweat, etc) than permanently dewy faced and unfit.

TheCowThatLaughs · 01/03/2015 17:25

I get this too and so does my sister. If it's any consolation, I think it's good for facial skin to get loads of extra blood running through it. That's not scientific at all, I just made it up but it might be true?

SauvignonSash · 01/03/2015 17:30

There's a prescription cream you can get for this, called mirvaso. Personally I don't think it matters though!

IvanOsokin · 01/03/2015 17:35

I get this too and it takes ages to go away! Plus, I drip sweat unattractively on the floor, which nobody else in my classes seems to do.

However, I am getting fit...

Mitzi50 · 01/03/2015 17:44

I get this too - even when I've been really fit. Now I am in my 50s instructors are very concerned that I am going to keel over. I hate it and it makes me very self conscious about exercising.

DS gets it too and he is currently very fit. Doesn't happen to less fit DD. Like pp I've also been told I've got acne rosacea so maybe there is a link.

CheshirePanda · 03/03/2015 20:42

I get it too. Always have. And when I am really trying I get the slightly white look around the eyes that Fcukfifa mentioned. But on the plus side I look better in my jeans than those who never get sweaty :-) Possibly.

Julius02 · 04/03/2015 08:20

Me too - I used to go running with a friend and at the end she would look like she'd just had a stroll around the park, my face would be bright red and stay like that for ages. I don't worry about it; my bigger worry is that I haven't done any exercise for ages!
But if I do go to a class at the gym I just try not to look in the mirror....

By the way I am fair skinned and freckly - am not sure if that makes a difference.

MrsGSR · 04/03/2015 08:31

I get this, even after swimming in a cold pool (I look super attractive with a beetroot face, goggle marks, hair everywhere and no make up...)

My mum had no wrinkles at 55, she could easily have passed for much younger. She swore it was because of all the exercise she did and she went bright red too, so I think there's probably some truth in it.

Zoeee88 · 01/04/2015 22:09

So glad Im not the only one!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 01/04/2015 22:18

I get this too. And I sweat a lot Blush

It takes me ages to cool off after exercise as well.

Yogasuz · 04/04/2015 08:57

Hello fellow beetroot-red-facers! Blush

This is me too, have had it all my life, comes with easy blushing and when working out. I can achieve some awesome levels of redness and yes to the white line around mouth and chin!

I hated so much in my late teens I even went for a private appt where they explained a procedure you can have to cut those blood vessels under the arm pit (but can make you sweat more!), glad I never properly considered it, my rosey cheeks have grown on my and saved me ever needing blusher!

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 04/04/2015 09:24

Beetroot and blotchy here. I also suffer from it when I drink alcohol or get emotional. No tips though, sorry.

justabigdisco · 04/04/2015 09:30

My friend that I run with and I are a right pair. I don't sweat much but go bright red. She stays normal colour but drips in sweat! Not sure which I prefer! Ah well, still feels good! That's inspired me to get out today!

ProfYaffle · 04/04/2015 09:32

I get it too. I work out at home during the day, when dh comes home he knows if I've exercised that day as I'm still red when he gets in from work! Being fit/unfit has no impact on it.

Primadonnagirl · 04/04/2015 09:34

Oh God me too..worse since I'm going through menopause. My trainer actually commented on it the other day with an "Urgh..yuk!" I figure it's a sign I'm working hard rather than those people who walked around the gym slowly sipping water..!
