Honestly. Do they actually help it just a bit of a gimmick.

I have about 3 stone to lose but haven't quite got round to starting yet. Hmm

Looking for a gadget to track steps, calories, and all that jazz? This thread is a little old. Check out our round-up of Mumsnetters’ favourite fitness trackers for the low-down on Garmin, Fitfbit and some other -cheaper- alternatives. MNHQ.

I was at 8,000 steps by night time yesterday so I jogged on the spot in front of CBB until I got to 10,000!

grumblepuss · 18/01/2015 10:46

Thanks Stats - sounds likes its going to be a fun toy. I'm not convinced calorie burn is accurate unless you do it under lab conditions.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/01/2015 11:51

No, I'm not either. It gives an indication - but I wouldn't use it to try and determine exactly how many cals to eat in a day for example. But I suspect it's better than the likes of the rowing machine which seems to be very formulaic and can't tell how hard you're working -ie how much effort it is!

grumblepuss · 20/01/2015 19:25

Squee... Mine will arrive tomorrow.

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/01/2015 19:59

OOOHHH! I'm still loving mine - the battery life isn't the best though, and word of warning the point where it alerts you that battery is low seems to be pretty low - you can check it on the app though.

grumblepuss · 20/01/2015 20:19

That's good know. I read somewhere about someone popping their's on charge each morning when they have a shower.

Wrongornot · 20/01/2015 20:21

Does anyone want to be my 'fitbit friend'?!

I have had mine for a week and am really enjoying using it - I am however friendless. Sad

I used MFP and find having friends on there very motivating, however no one else has a fitbit.

MajesticWhine · 20/01/2015 20:29

Yes I am also friendless. What do we have to do to set it up?

Wrongornot · 20/01/2015 20:36

Have sent you a message!

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/01/2015 20:44

It does charge very quickly - I nipped home at lunch and it charged about half way in about 10-15 minutes. Just have to remember to charge it!

MajesticWhine · 21/01/2015 10:11

Anyone else want to be a friend? PM if you do.

grumblepuss · 21/01/2015 13:17

Fucking thing won't update via Bluetooth... Grr.
Going to have to do it calmly at home rather than in the office

Bumbiscuits · 22/01/2015 11:30

I'm awake or restless at 2am every night apparently. I wonder what happens then to stir me.

LollipopViolet · 23/01/2015 20:54

Mine should be arriving tomorrow - have ordered the Flex :)

EleanorAbernathy · 24/01/2015 05:02

I wish my Surge would hurry up! My Aria scales came today though, they're great - and pretty accurate compared with the ones at the gym.
I'm already using MFP and have synced the apps, I'm already finding it motivating just KNOWING I can't lie to MFP about what I weigh! Grin

LikeABadSethRogenMovie · 24/01/2015 05:48

They make my wrist itch.

EleanorAbernathy · 26/01/2015 00:26

Fitbit must be reading this - I had an email today saying that the stock has now arrived in the UK, and I may have it by the end of the week! Grin

MajesticWhine · 26/01/2015 07:28

Me too bumbiscuits - although I've noticed I tend to sleep much more soundly when I don't drink wine in the evening.

EleanorAbernathy · 27/01/2015 23:50

My Surge is in transit and should be with me tomorrow - I'm constantly refreshing the tracking page excited now! I'll be taking it for a run tomorrow evening to test it out! :)

grumblepuss · 28/01/2015 10:21

Ooh exciting Eleanor!
What does everyone do about 'Lesmills' classes.
I did body pump last night and realised I can't log it as bodypump?
I tried weights, but it doesn't seem to account for as much as body pump does on MFP - approx 350 calories.
Any thoughts?

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/01/2015 22:05

What one do you have grumble? If it's the HR, then it rarely agrees with MFP or the gym machines. You can create a custom exercise on fitbit, I just go with the calories it logs.

OllyBJolly · 28/01/2015 22:25

Got one for DH for Christmas and he loves it. Lost about half a stone and says his trousers are loose.

The dog has never been so well walked!

PrincessPilolevuofTONGA · 28/01/2015 22:29

Marking my place to remind me to rtft. I just got one free with a new phone. Initial research made me think its just a pedometer so interested in hearing all about it

EleanorAbernathy · 29/01/2015 07:31

I'm impressed with my Surge so far!
I'm not sure of the accuracy of the heart rate as I've never monitored it constantly before, however the real reason I got it was for the GPS tracking and I can't fault that.

I took it for a 9km run in the snow last night, it mapped out my exact route - even the elevation (which was the same pattern as mapmyrun) - and gave me exactly the calorie burn I'd expect for a run of that length.

I'm at work today, will be tricky to meet my steps goal :)

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/01/2015 07:52

I ho walking at lunchtime to make sure I meet it -and sometimes take a scenic route in too. Interesting about your calorie burn -mine never seems to match the gym machines, but seems to be relatively close to the calculators on route mapping sites for my walks. Can't run just now -buggered knee! Infuriating as I was doing c25k and enjoying the challenge
