Has anyone heard that they have a place? My dh and I both applied this year through the ballot. My dh got a rejection today but I haven't heard anything. I'm anxious this means I may have got a place and will therefore actually have to run 26 miles.

Well ladies, I'm in!

Feel a bit bad because my partner who takes his running really seriously since starting about 18 months ago didn't get in. Apart from a few half-arsed runs over the summer holidays I've hardly ran since May, was supposed to be doing the local half next week but am not because I haven't done the training.Blush Better start now!

zombiesheep · 01/10/2014 18:20

I'm in too! First time applying as well! I'm scared!

pootlebug · 01/10/2014 18:32

Caminante, Jenny, Heysoulsister, Buskersdog and zombiesheep - Congratulations! You must all be so excited (and maybe a bit scared….I know I would be).

Will be stalking the postman tomorrow….

HeySoulSister · 01/10/2014 18:48

I'm terrified.... I'm running Silverstone half marathon a few weeks before. This was my first time applying, I will be 46! Not stressing out over times just yet, but dd is busy looking up some training plans

Oh Lordy!

feetheart · 01/10/2014 22:02

Well done to those that got in, I will be living vicariously so please keep posting :)

CaminanteNoHayCamino · 01/10/2014 23:21

Well done (or should that be commiserations?!) to everyone else who got in and bad luck to those who didn't.

HeySoulSister I will be 44 doing it and have never run further than10k - and not at all for nearly three months. Shock Blush. I have rather a lot of training to plan if this is going to happen. Are people going to keep in touch on here? It would be good to quake together compare notes.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 02/10/2014 06:50

I'm 47, and hopefully will be put out of my misery today.

I've not run any distance, but keeping my legs loose etc by using exercise bike at home, 10-15k 3/4 times a week.

Waiting is horrible - I'd very much like to join a training support thread.

PotatoPolly · 02/10/2014 06:56

oh dear god Blush I entered last year feeling inspired... I can't run a bath! haven't heard anything yet, hopefully I will today but the thought is terrifying!

SweetestThing · 02/10/2014 10:27

Husband watch has reported a big fat "Sorry" magazine, so I shall use the charity place I was offered. I've applied 9times in the ballot and never been successful - the odds really do seem to be stacked against me!

pootlebug · 02/10/2014 12:19

A no for me too. Dithering over what to do - I have applied for but not confirmed a charity place, but I'm beginning to wonder whether VMLM on 26th April, then Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire 7 weeks later, plus all the time needed to organise events etc for fundraising is all going to be a bit too much. Contemplating applying for a charity place for Brighton instead - the extra 2 weeks between that and Ironman would be helpful, the minimum charity amounts are much lower so doable on sponsorship alone, and if I keep improving after my 1.45.08 half last week I stand a half reasonable chance for qualifying for London 2016 via a good for age place. Buuuut the start of VMLM is half a mile from my house, it goes past the end of my road, everyone I know will be out on the street supporting…..so I don't know whether to just go for it with the charity place and figure I'll raise the money somehow……

(Sorry, rambling in my attempt to come to some kind of decision)

Mitchy1nge · 02/10/2014 12:23

a no for me, and a sort of sweater (do not remember anything about buying a sweater? it's grey and turquoise and quite big Confused)

pootlebug · 02/10/2014 12:26

I have a sweater too Michy1nge. And also no recollection of having purchased one.

AlmaMartyr · 02/10/2014 12:28

A no for me. Disappointed as this would be an ideal year for me to do it, and was looking forward to having something to work towards. Never sure about signing up for another one though, the ballot thing feels like fate whereas I don't have the gumption to actually sign up for one.

Mitchy1nge · 02/10/2014 12:46

did you donate your entry fee to charity pootle, I think I did so maybe it's a thank you

pootlebug · 02/10/2014 12:57

Ah, yes perhaps that's it Mitchy - I'm pretty sure I did that too.

Mitchy1nge · 02/10/2014 13:00

am wearing mine now, I look forward to spilling some spinach omelette down it any minute now :)

JennyOnTheBlocks · 02/10/2014 19:22

Fuck

I'm in!

[Shock

I've almost stopped shaking, and now grinning Grin

CaminanteNoHayCamino · 02/10/2014 20:23

You really are on the blocks now Jenny!

PotatoPolly · 02/10/2014 23:03

If you get a place do you find out via post? Or email?

I'm still waiting to hear either way... Blush

CaminanteNoHayCamino · 02/10/2014 23:09

Post I think. That's how I got it.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 03/10/2014 07:52

By post within the UK, email overseas

Is there a VLM 2015 thread yet, shall we have one?

CaminanteNoHayCamino · 03/10/2014 09:05

This is it, isn't it Jenny?

HeySoulSister · 03/10/2014 09:18

Start one!! I'm still in shock at getting my place!

Let's have a thread.

I'm doing Silverstone half marathon in March and now THE marathon in April and hopefully a triathlon in sept! Why!??!

I'm currently halfway through reading 'run fat bitch run' a really good book. Lots of marathon inspiration in it

SuaveAunt · 03/10/2014 09:28

The MS Society still has places and will accept applications up to 8th October if any disappointed people are looking for another shot - www.mssociety.org.uk/sites/default/files/Documents/Fundraising%20and%20donating/London_marathon_application_2015.pdf

JennyOnTheBlocks · 03/10/2014 09:44

I thought this was more the 'have you/haven't you' type thread Confused

I'm emailing a few charities today, checking out their requirements and what they'll offer in return, since I'd be using my own place rather than a bonded one.

Already have cash pledges from some friends!
