What's your 5k time (running)?

Just interested in what would be a respectable time for 5k. Not planning to run a race, just for my own information!

I really enjoy running and do 5K 3 times a week. I am pretty slow and haven't been pushing myself very hard to get faster. My best 5k time is 34 minutes.

Come and share Smile

Wow. You are all so fast!
I do c25k each spring and then nothing all year.
PB was 32, now usually about 40

No such thing as ' respectable ' time ! Just do your best, then do some more running and try to improve. Running is a great way to keep fit and stay sane and you only compete with yourself.

around 30 minutes.

I think my first ever was 44 minutes, which is virtually fast walking pace, and it then took a year to knock off 15 minutes :)

I try to run - did 6k today and it took me i hour and 10 mins! Sorry I know that's pathetic but at least I am doing something.

This is on my own though - never done a park run.

Would love to get faster - is interval training the way forward?

Also my knees are really hurting - have started using foam roller - does anyone else do this?

postmanpatscat · 27/04/2014 22:48

Mine is 26:45, that was a few weeks ago and I'm 46. My best parkrun time is 27:15 and I came 12th out of the women (only around 60 runners in total). I'd love to get under 26 and then under 25 but I'm not sure I can! My best 10k time is 55:37 so I should be able to get closer to 26, I think. Both times I didn't set out to beat my PB!

GiniCooper · 27/04/2014 22:53

My best 10k is 30.36...

I'm joking! A local charity night run to me just posted the first across the line as that. Unfrickingreal!
I need serious motivation.

My best is 24:56 a couple of weeks ago but it was fairly flat. A few hills totally makes a difference.

LingDiLong · 30/04/2014 11:59

Dalek, that doesn't sound pathetic at all! I'm just increasing my distance from 5k and it's amazing the difference an extra k makes! My dh is a pretty good runner and he swears by the rollers. He also has a knee support. Apparently strengthening exercises like Pilates can help reduce pain and injury too. Dh has done me a training plan to get to 10k and it includes some interval training, I'm quite enjoying it actually. It makes a nice (if tough) change from my usual plodding pace!

My best is 29.57 and I was absolutely stoked about that - I never thought I would do it in under 30 mins! But that is really pushing it for me - normally it's more like 32-33 mins if I just pootle along. I will be 49 in a month's time.
