What's your 5k time (running)?

Lottapianos · 15/04/2014 21:29

Just interested in what would be a respectable time for 5k. Not planning to run a race, just for my own information!

I really enjoy running and do 5K 3 times a week. I am pretty slow and haven't been pushing myself very hard to get faster. My best 5k time is 34 minutes.

Come and share Smile

On average about 30-31mins, but did a pb of 28 mins in a 10k race last weekend. I tend to plod consistently at the same pace on my own, but in an event find it pushes me a lot more.

ambercat · 15/04/2014 21:35

22.15. I have got faster as live got older!!

zombiesheep · 15/04/2014 21:36

I managed to run 5k yesterday at my fastest time of 29minutes :)

roquefortlover · 15/04/2014 21:38

Usually between 27 and 30 mins when running alone although have a PB of 25.01 on what I am sure was a short course! 34 mins is not slow at all btw!

Lottapianos · 15/04/2014 21:39

'34 mins is not slow at all btw!'

You are now my favourite MNer roquefortlover Grin

Some really impressive times on this thread. Well done everyone!

Thankyou Grin. If you look at local parkrun times you will see many people coming in at 40 mins plus!

sassytheFIRST · 15/04/2014 22:08

Prob about 29 mins on a good day. Last time I did 5k (last week) it took 34 mins.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 15/04/2014 22:09

On my 9th run this past Sunday, having started from rock bottom fitness, I managed just under 31 mins Smile.

pootlebug · 15/04/2014 22:34

Beat my previous PB yesterday - 24.19.

But I think any time is a 'respectable time' - running 5k is running 5k. Plenty of people 'can't' do that at all.

roquefortlover · 15/04/2014 22:39

Degustibus and pootlebug both fantastic achievements. I'd o so agree that any time is 'respectable' - 3 years ago I was one of those who could not run for more than a minute and I think that getting from zero to 5k is absolutely the hardest.

BumgrapesofWrath · 15/04/2014 22:48

33 here, so we're about the same!

5ofus · 15/04/2014 22:49

37!

Some would say that's walking pace. I say fuck off - this is running :)

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 16/04/2014 09:11

Yep - any time is 'respectable' - it's a bloody achievement just getting out there and having me time away from my darlings

Lottapianos · 16/04/2014 09:37

Thanks for such lovely encouraging responses x

Being able to run for 5k is respectable no matter how quickly you do it Grin

My first ever 5k time was about 34 mins. I've got it down to 27.30 now, I found that upping my distance and working on my core strength really helped. Sub-30 mins is what a lot of people aim for; some people manage it very easily and some have to work harder.

But sod what everyone else is doing, if you're improving then you're doing well. There's always going to be someone faster or slower.

douchbag · 16/04/2014 09:39

My first and last Wink was 41 mins. I was last Hmm

CMOTDibbler · 16/04/2014 09:43

28.10. Really must start going to PR though as its hard to try and do faster by myself. Am more of an endurance person though.

Intervals will help you get faster - try running flat out between lampposts, then run steadily between the next two and repeat

TinyTear · 16/04/2014 09:47

my PB is 33:03 - last summer
but lately (as i had 2 miscarriages in 5 months) have been slower and doing it around 40 minutes

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 16/04/2014 09:48

YY EauRouge core strength makes a huge difference - I'm also doing the odd day of 30DS in between running and strength training at gym, it's all helping enormously.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 16/04/2014 09:49

TinyTear sorry to hear Sad

Bloody well done for getting out there!

overmydeadbody · 16/04/2014 09:50

Every 5k anyone runs is an achievement I think!

My PB is 24.53, but I like to plod along for longer distances at a slower pace.

Morrigu · 16/04/2014 10:17

Agreed 5k is an achievement no matter what time.

Only completed c25k a couple of weeks ago so my usual is about 28.50-something so far. I'm working on slowly increasing my distance using the 10% per week rule rather than speed atm.

PenelopeLane · 16/04/2014 10:25

My PB is just under 30 mins, but that was pre-children! Now I aim for anytime under 35 mins which I often don't make

BlueChampagne · 16/04/2014 12:17

24.45 as part of a longer run (which turned into a 10k PB). Also makes a difference if you're on road or trail. Or it does with me anyway.

purpleshinyone · 16/04/2014 12:30

Over the last 6 years have done 8 PRs and have gone from 34 to a PB of 32.26 last week (also the first time running the whole distance without stopping for a breather.) Would love to go under 30 minutes but not getting any easier as I get older.
