I can't believe I managed to do it! I am very unfit and about 3 stone overweight. But I did it Grin

Just wanted to share with someone as I'm very proud of myself at the moment Blush

I'm looking at jogfm right now! It's brilliant! I'm trying to work our a playlist of songs I like that I already have, but my tastes are rather less trendy than most of the stuff on there...

dementedma · 12/05/2013 17:00

I did it! Week 5 run 3 - the dreaded 20 minute run. Am very proud of myself Grin

sparkle12mar08 · 12/05/2013 17:18

Yay, go demented!!!

HunterWellies · 12/05/2013 17:38

:) Demented!

FoundAChopinLizt · 12/05/2013 17:42

Well done de!

dementedma · 12/05/2013 20:09

Thank you, thank you. At nearly 50 and a stone and a half overweight, am well chuffed

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 12/05/2013 23:36

Booted DP out the door tonight to start W1R1 and he came home delighted with himself saying 'I get it now'. We've both been so busy for so long with work and toddler/newborn its such a pleasure to sneak off for a half hour to think about nothing but ourselves, listen to music and be alone! I did W4R2 yesterday and it felt great. Nervous about W5 but I am properly committed now! Well done to those of you powering ahead and hi to newbies!

EauRouge · 13/05/2013 07:30

Oh , that's brilliant Yoni. My DH keeps making noises about running but keeps changing his mind. Every time I got a PB at Parkrun he said he thinks he can beat me easily. So I signed him up- it's his birthday tomorrow and I'm going to print the barcodes out and put them in his card Grin

Well done, demented, you have passed the major milestone!

sparkle12mar08 · 13/05/2013 10:57

Morning! I decided to stick with my normal run days this week despite my slight hiccup repeating w5 r3 yesterday, so I did w6 r1 this morning. It was okay. I tried to compile a running playlist with the help of jog.fm but I'm not sure it worked for me. I seem to just settle naturally into a pace and I find it very very difficult to get out of that. I think I might be best just using my favourite songs whatever the beat, and just letting my feet do their thing. I have a very fast cadence and a short stride length and I couldn't get their suggested songs for a 6min/km to work - the rhythm was just all wrong.

EauRouge · 13/05/2013 11:32

Short stride length and higher number of strides per km is apparently how the pros do it Wink

sparkle12mar08 · 13/05/2013 11:38

Really? I've always been a fast walker, friends who meet me for the first time can never believe it, but I grew up without a car in the family and from four years old I walked everywhere with my dad, and if I couldn't keep up then well, I'd just better walk faster! I think that translates into my running now too - will look at higher bm songs on jogfm and see what there is.

EauRouge · 13/05/2013 12:35

Good idea- their lists are only a guide anyway, I find that I run 'faster' than their songs say but still end up with a similar pace. I think because I've got short legs so they have to move faster Grin

HunterWellies · 13/05/2013 13:05

Hi everyone. Great to see more runners on our thread. I feel a bit of an old has-been now :o

Week 9 has arrived... According to my app this week I run 5k (or 30 minutes)... and that's it. So, I went out this morning and just did a free run along my regular route, aiming for a sensible pace and to stop when I felt like it.

I ran 25 minutes at about 8.5 minutes per km :) I'm going to do the same on Wednesday and then Fri or Saturday go for the 5k (Although I'll stop at 30 minutes which will be more like 4k).

So that's the plan. I enjoyed this morning, I really did. Felt a bit like skipping school doing it without the c25k app :)

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 13/05/2013 22:34

Shit! I hurt myself in the last 30 seconds of the last running bit of W4R3! Did something funny to my hip and now it hurts, not agony but I limped home! Do I have to rest it now? Really don't want to break momentum. I have been running on pavement despite advice not to. Hmm.

FoundAChopinLizt · 14/05/2013 10:52

Completed w5r3!

Really chuffed with myself as I'm in my PMT-zero-energy-want everyone-to-piss-off-mode so wasn't really in the mood.

It went fine, I drove to the edge of town to a quiet straight road as I have outgrown the park. I saw two cars, two runners, and loads of lambs, buzzards and a partridge. I turned back at half way and ended up at the car, so must have an even pace.

Wibbly you are really getting hooked!

FoundAChopinLizt · 14/05/2013 10:53

Theonlyway, sorry to hear about the hip, hope it's better today?

COCKadoodledooo · 14/05/2013 16:44

Hope your hip is better today theyoniwayisnorthwards

Wibbly you won't be wibbly for long (not that I mean to imply you are Blush) with that schedule!

Am having a dilemma. Today was supposed to be W1R2, and I was going to go out early this morning. Inconsiderate dh though had a second interview via Skype at 6am, so I had to stay home to keep nosey dc out of the way. Dh then had to leave pretty well as soon as it finished so I couldn''t go this morning. When it was dry and sunny.

Told myself I'd go tonight when he gets in but it's fecking monsoon season out there now Hmm Plus the chicken I'm roasting smells lush and I'm tempted to tuck in when I feed the dc in a bit, and I think running on a full stomach would be a bad idea.

So. Do I go tonight and drown or go in the morning when it should be better? Or am I just looking for excuses and should stop being a wuss and get on with it?

wibblyjelly · 14/05/2013 17:02

cock (loving the name!) I'm in the same dilemma. I'm probably going to force myself out tonight though, as I was supposed to go last night, but had an appointment, so couldn't. I could justify it by saying it was my 2 day rest, but I don't want to have a 3 day gap. I'm going to hate it while I'm doing, but sure I'll be pleased once its done.

EauRouge · 14/05/2013 17:10

Sometimes life gets in the way! Especially if you've got young DCs. Don't beat yourselves up, as long as you get out there as often as you can and you keep the motivation going then you'll get there. It took me nearly 6 months to finish C25K- I had surgery, flu, DD2 had norovirus... but I got there in the end!

I haven't been for a run for nearly 2 weeks due to bloody awful drug side effects and now withdrawal. But I'm going tomorrow and I can't bloody wait. I'll probably be shite Grin but it's better for my fitness than staying in bed.

wibblyjelly · 14/05/2013 18:41

Back from W4r2. Made interesting by trying to avoid snails and slugs that came out to join me in the pouring rain Smile

HunterWellies · 14/05/2013 18:58

Oh Wibbly that reminds me, I squashed a snail on my last run... Felt guilty all the way home :(

Good luck tmw Eau

How's the hip Yoni?

EauRouge · 14/05/2013 19:03

Noooo, don't avoid slugs and snails- squash the slimy buggers! I just planted loads of lettuce seedlings and courgette plants, I didn't get any veg last year because it all got eaten.

Yoni, I got a sore hip a few weeks ago and did some hip strengthening exercises that seem to have helped.

Thanks for the luck, I think I'll need it!

COCKadoodledooo · 14/05/2013 19:14

I went Grin

1.97 miles in 27 minutes - not bad for a beginner! Had to mess with the timings a bit to deal with road crossing/gates and stuff, but if anything ran for a bit longer than I needed to. It was the walking bits that seemed to take forever tonight as opposed to the jogging bits on my first go!

COCKadoodledooo · 14/05/2013 19:15

Eau have fun tomorrow!
