In order to assist people to get fit, lose weight and save ££ in the new year Parkrun should be top of everyones list.
If Everyone who does a Parkrun can list their local run here, whats good about it and what their PB is then maybe we can encourage more Mners to get those running shoes dusted off and join the Parkrun revolution.

I do the Hull one which is supposedly one of the best as it is totally flat, around a beautiful lake and you get to run past Wallabies, Deer and Alpacas. Pb is 21.34.
Come on lets spread the word.

I love the Parkrun concept by my nearest one is 30 mins away! Wish it was a bit closer, but 1 hour of driving for a 30 min run is a bit demotivating and bad for the environment!

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 08/01/2012 14:53

We have a new one starting 14th Jan in St Albans, which saves me a 40 minute drive to my nearest.

balotelli · 22/04/2012 07:47

just done my 33rd parkrun. Now done 100 miles around the best council owned park in uk!
PB down to 21.04

treetrunkthighs · 22/04/2012 07:53

I've done 10 at Colwick. PB is around 33 minutes - I am a plodder and come in the last 20 every week but I haven't walked....yet Grin

fantasticfanjo · 23/04/2012 10:01

treetrunkthighs I'm thinking of joining the colwick one. I'm a couch to 5k returner and currently on week 3,so it may be a few more weeks until I'm confident enough to join you "real runners".
You may have seen me and my friend (sort of) running round colwick park in the opposite direction at 9am on a sat morning !!

Kristina2 · 23/04/2012 18:00

Ive just started this year running at The Glasgow parkrun. Its quite big with about 350-400 each week so you probably wont be last!

Not the fastest course but mostly under trees so lots of shade on sunny days ( yes we do have some in scotland)

There are new parkruns at dundee and st andrews too Smile so please tell all your scottish friends

FredFredGeorge · 23/04/2012 21:39

My PB with DD in the buggy is 21:something, I wanted to get to 20 but having but with the sun coming out I stopped running, not sure if next winter when she's a few kg's heavier I'll still be up for that challenge.

Bushy is my local one - absolutely crowded, busier than some real races, so great for atmosphere and competitive encouragement but can stop you running your own race. My fastest time was at Kingston though.

Kristina2 · 27/04/2012 07:37

I would be very pleased to run in 21 mins without a buggy

supernannyisace · 27/04/2012 08:57

I have been doing the Huddersfield parkrun for almost a year now. My PB is 31mins 22 secs. Haven't improved much over that time, but about 5 mins so ?

I love it - but it is a bit of a drive from my house - takes about 15/20 mins. DH comes with me usually and gets the saturday paper and reads it in the cafe while i plod around.

I have volunteered a couple of times - which everyone needs to do! and have got my Dsis involved too.

Missing it tomorrow though as am doing a long run with a running buddy - gotta get some mileage in before my half in err... two weeks!

I'm waiting for the football season to finish (DS1 plays) so I can make my parkrun debut at Netley Abbey. I've been following them on Facebook and getting the emails for ages so I'm excited to actually be able to be there. I only started running in January.

Tomorrow's the final football training session so I'll be at Netley Abbey the following week. My own PB for 5k is 39.10 as measured by my trusty Garmin but to be honest getting round will be the goal Grin

treetrunkthighs · 27/04/2012 18:43

fantasticfanjo I will look out for you tomorrow Smile

DressDownFriday · 27/04/2012 18:58

I only heard about Parkrun yesterday when I was reading an article in the paper - Nell McAndrew mentioned it with respect to her marathon training.

I didn't think there would be one in Hull so never bothered to Google it!

Thanks for mentioning it. May decide to give it a go.

fantasticfanjo · 28/04/2012 13:19

treetrunkthighs - didn't make it today as my friend who drives me was a little hungover !

There's 2 of us Both blonde, red faced and panting - give us a wave & shout if you see us (oxygen would also be appreciated)

supernannyisace · 28/04/2012 13:21

I missed parkrun this morning as went on a 7.5 miler instead.

I love parkrun though -and get v excited when I get my time texted!

holmessweetholmes · 28/04/2012 14:04

Parkrun is fab! I do the Abingdon one, although not as often as I should. There's a very friendly atmosphere, and it's great to see such a range of ages and abilities having a go - even in the pouring rain and slippy mud this morning!

FartBlossom · 28/04/2012 14:16

Ive looked into this as I have just taken on running (am on week 4 of couch 2 5K). My nearest one is in Middlesbrough which is a bit of a drive and puts me off TBH. I did see that you can set your own up closer, but I dont know if I would be able to do that. Has anyone set their own up? Was it easy?

FartBlossom · 28/04/2012 14:46

Ive just looked into it and the Middlesbrough one is 45 min drive away, but is the nearest :( I really want to do one though, but havent the dedication to start one up myself.

Will keep an eye out for one closer to me near Richmond/Darlington area

balotelli · 28/04/2012 20:05

Dressdown the Hull one is widely regarded as one of the best in UK. Flat and beautiful East Park is easily one of the best council owned parks in UK. Regularly get 275 runners on a saturday and is growing so quickly that another may be starting in West park in the summer. Good friendly atmosphere and cute wallabies to look at too. What more could you want.
See you there next saturday (missed this week due to back injury)

treetrunkthighs · 28/04/2012 20:55

I'm missing the next two fantasticfanjo but should be back in action 19th may. I'll look out for you then Grin

Choufleur · 28/04/2012 20:58

DH sometimes does the parkrun in Leicester at Western Park.

MirandaWest · 28/04/2012 21:01

I know there's one in York now (haven't actually been though Blush)

FartBlossom · 28/04/2012 22:42

Miranda there is, on the knavesmire I believe. Ive just moved from there I so would have gone

balotelli · 04/05/2012 22:40

Good luck to everyone ParkRunning tomorrow.
Brag about your times when you have staggered across that line.

balotelli · 05/05/2012 17:50

Cold and slow today. 21.31 44th out of 313. Better next week. Hmm

butterflyexperience · 07/05/2012 16:56

Just came across this thread, fab idea!
I have done several Parkruns in Nottingham at Colwick and also volunteered one too.

Parkrun is fab, and I love it.

I have not run in a few months for various reasons, however ran again this morning for the first time and it felt great.
