Couch to 5k 2011 Part Four: Post even if you haven't run!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/10/2011 21:42

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear, the music we listen to, the gadgets we use and our nail varnish.

New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

Some of us are on our second time round now, so don't worry that you will be behind, just jump in whatever stage you are at.

Grin at your DC Kristingle. Lovely that they have such confidence as you say.

If you can run 5k, you can run 10k Smile

I'm eating toast again, this time with porridge, because I've just run 10 blooming miles Shock. On the way home I was coming along the edge of the park remembering the snowy Sunday afternoon at the start of this year that I went for a walk and decided I had to get fit. I came home and found the C25K thread and never looked back (except for when the coyotes were out to get me Smile).

Happy New Years to all of you, and here's to a great 2012!

LangMayYerLumReek · 31/12/2011 20:42

Just popped on to wish you all a very ...

??. ?"°?.?"°?.?°" ?.?°"? .??.??
?"°?. Happy New Year!
"?. ?°

and to say thank you for your scintillating company and motivation this year on C25K, not to mention your nail varnish recommendations. Xmas Grin

Happy running one and all, and well done to everyone! except me possibly.

LangMayYerLumReek · 31/12/2011 20:43

shredded, have emailed you :)

sybilfaulty · 01/01/2012 10:13

SHredded, 10 miles?! RESPECT! I feel even worse about my distinct lack of movement in the running direction, but 2012 will of course be better. I resolved last year to do a 10k and didn't even get close (did a couple of 5s towards the start of the year), but maybe 2012 will be the year that running clicks for me.

Have loved the thread and all you wonderful ladies on it. Have a very happy new year. I look forward to running with you again (one day.....)

LinzerTorte · 01/01/2012 16:03

Just popping on to wish you all a Happy New Year! I'll be back to catch up properly when I'm back home (we arrived back in Austria at 2.30 this morning and are now at my ILs'), when I hope to have some running to report. Shock

WhoKnows Maybe I should have persisted with Star of the Sea after all; glad you enjoyed it in the end, anyway.

Nell That green is gorgeous. Re glittery nail polishes that are impossible to remove, I've been having the opposite problem. I was touching up my Barry M Limited Effects a few days ago, looked down at my nails and was Shock to discover that the nail of my right index finger was suddenly bare. The polish had completely vanished! And the same thing happened at the airport yesterday with my right index finger; one minute the varnish was there, the next it had gone! I just cannot work out how it happened (I'd applied a base coat, two coats of varnish and a top coat) and have been trying to slide the varnish off my other fingers, but it seems quite firmly fixed. All most peculiar.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 01/01/2012 20:48

LangMayYourLumReek - thank you very much for your email and for sponsoring me.

Sybil - I am considering retiring from running after this blasted half marathon. Whatever made me do it ?

Linzer - welcome home.

No running for me today, just a short walk to Barnes and Noble so DS2 could read some of their books as he's finished all of his and there is no room for any more.

NellVarnish · 02/01/2012 14:36

You're very welcome shredded, every little helps as they says in a well known supermarket ... Wink.

I used to spend hours in Barnes and Noble, not to mention many other shops. Rarely was I spotted running round Central Park in my heyday I can tell you. You keep going, DO NOT RETIRE and let yourself go like me, you can DO IT! And you will.

Linzer, bet you're glad to be back home again after all the travelling around - I don't know what to say about the disappearing glitter. Tis most strange. I'd head to LHR now if I thought it had magical powers to make all my excess Christmas lbs drop off and disappear. Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/01/2012 22:06

Evening all,

Went out for my 3rd run in 6 days today [smug emoticon], got to keep the momentum going. Speed was an improvement over Saturday but still somewhat short of PB. It was a lovely afternoon for a run, sunny and cold, lots of families out with new bikes and scooters everywhere. Came home and ordered some new running tops as I only have one each of short and long sleeved at the moment.

Linzer maybe the nail varnish was too hard and just fell off? I used to have a glittery one years ago that came away in big pieces, it seemed to set too hard.

I'm feeling a bit fatigued with bright nails this week, think I might go back to nude for a few days. , night, night.

Hi Everyone and a slightly belated "Happy New Year". I've just got home so that's my excuse...

We had a great week away and a few days back in the Uk visiting rellies and it's good to be back home (before tomorow's gales).

I managed to run and Shred while I was away and despite eating all sorts of things I wouldn't normally, I feel OK and not too 'christmassy'!.

Be back soon for chatter, JB

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 03/01/2012 01:21

Well done WhoKnows! And you did some running shopping into the bargain! I have just ordered some new bottoms, and a new Shock Absorber (I got bra rash again on my last run, despite wearing my "best" running bra). Thank you for your kind sponsorship Smile.

Welcome back Jelli, glad you had a good time and that you kept up the exercise.

LinzerTorte · 03/01/2012 10:04

Morning all,

Well, I haven't been out running yet but I'm having to wait in for my iPhone, which is due to arrive between 9 and 11 am (it's already 11 am - where is it?!?). I may go out later. Then again, this is our first full day at home so I may wait until tomorrow. Grin

Shredded Hope you enjoyed your outing to B&N. I'm another one who used to spend hours in there. As for running in Central Park... well, I had a picnic there once. Grin

Nell Wouldn't that be marvellous if we could just head to the airport and any unwanted excesses would simply disappear? Sadly, the only other thing to disappear at BHX was money from my purse as I found a few last-minute things to splash out on.

WhoKnows Yes, you're probably right. I'm going to take the varnish off today and go for something less sparkly this time. Have just unwrapped my mini OPIs so possibly one of those. Well done on your run; it sounded like perfect running weather - just like it is here today. I really should get out, shouldn't I?

Jelli Welcome back. Am impressed to hear you kept the running and shredding up over Christmas.

Must go and help DD2 paint her Peppa Pig piggy bank. So far, she's had all of one present that isn't Peppa Pig related.

tipping · 03/01/2012 12:48

I all can I join you?
I'm on my 3rd try with C25k. I work fulltime and HATE excersise and have never managed to get beyond week 5 (and that's often taking 2 weeks per 'week' IYKWIM!!).
Anyway went running on sunday for first time in 4 months, in the daylight. In the week I can only run before I leave for work and am DREADING going out tomorrow morning at 7am when it will still be dark!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 03/01/2012 13:16

Morning Linzer. Has it arrived yet? at the thought of Peppa Pig colonising your home. We had Pingu and Postman Pat when ours were little. Nowadays it's XBox and either shooting games or Formula One racing. I dread them getting behind the wheel of a real car, since they think they already know how to drive Grin. Thank you for sponsoring me Smile.

Welcome tipping the more the merrier. I went out in the dark too this morning. We did quite a hard hike yesterday - short but very steep and hard on the old knees - so I just did week 2 of the podcast (and walked in the walking bits, ran in the running bits). I'm doing a 10k on Saturday and didn't want to hurt myself before the run.

LinzerTorte · 03/01/2012 14:03

Welcome tipping and well done on your run. I really need to get back out there too as I haven't been running since early December. I finished C25k in the summer but then started having problems with my knee and decided to take a break over Christmas.

Shredded Yes, it's here! Although it arrived over two hours late and only after DH had phoned up to ask what was happening (I'd been tracking it and they claimed they'd tried but failed to deliver it, despite us being here all the time). Anyway, I've unpacked it and have stroked it lovingly, but am rather afraid of damaging it so it's back in its box for now. Grin

Anyway, so much for going out running this afternoon even if I'd more or less decided against it anyway - DH announced that now I'd got my phone, he was going to go out shopping! As he's also going to the recycling centre and probably needs to go into Vienna to do his shopping, I'm not expecting him back for several hours. Still, I'll let him off for once as he spent all morning cleaning the carpets.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 05/01/2012 13:57

Glad it arrived safely Linzer! And hope DH returned Smile

Just a short one for me today - I did week 2 again. It was really cold (-2 according to yahoo weather, but I think that included windchill), but I remembered to take my purple hat and some gloves so all was well Grin.

LinzerTorte · 05/01/2012 20:28

He did eventually, Shredded - although not quite early enough for me to go for a run. Still, I managed to get out this morning even if I only did 1 km.

Very blustery here but not all that cold, so buying two pairs of running gloves was probably overkill. At least I was able to show off my new OPI Big Apple Red while I was huffing and puffing speeding along.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/01/2012 10:52

Morning all,

Welcome to the thread Tipping - hope you have managed to get out, I am in awe of anyone who can run at 7am at this time of year.

Just got back from my run, hadn't been out since Monday due to bad weather and general busyness. Beautiful day for it, sunny, cold but not freezing and best of all no wind. A mixed run, had to stop for a minute or so to get across the dual carriageway halfway round which really puts me off my stride, I did end up having a couple of very short walking intervals after that, but I still got slightly further than on my last outing. My phone played up though so I haven't got an accurate distance, annoying!

Linzer - well done for getting back out again, love that nail colour. I kept my gloves on today so no one could see my OPI Tickle My France-y which funnily enough I am wearing for exactly the same reason as the person in that blog.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/01/2012 17:52

Evening all!

Well I am adding new music to my playlist - love my suggestions from you Sweaty! I have bought all three

Dancing queen
My Sharona
and Uptown girl

Marvellous

I even got the Barry Manilow Cocacabana that was recommended because it will make me

Any others?!! What are we all listening to???

And Sweaty - you cannot retire! I am coming back your way in HT (but not close enough and anyway you may well be here) but I shall be giving you evils as I fly over!! I am going to be ActuallyOnThePiste so need to get fit again. Running is getting better but let's say I'll never be a Paula Radcliffe.

Off to catch up now x

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/01/2012 18:31

Good choices Pistey! I ran to the soundtrack of Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat as we went to see it at the weekend and I love all the songs. Can't see it being a regular though.

NellVarnish · 06/01/2012 19:14

Hello my little running pals and fellow nail varnish aficionados, and welcome tipping. It will be better in the spring when you can run in the sunshine and see all the flora and fauna well that's what I keep telling myself as I put off restarting for yet another week, although the dark has its advantages in that the neighbours can't see me and guffaw.

Have added those two colours WhoKnows and Linzer to the OPI app so that I remember what they are [old lady emoticon]. They are very lovely indeed. I am channelling my Inner Pixie today and wearing the China Glaze Starboard, the green one. I've done matt with shiny tips on thumb and index fingers and it looks lovely.

Still not been running, but I have been thinking about it. And I am going to. So if on the off chance I did go out, I would still be listening to our old favourites as I've not added anything for ages.

Pistey, hello! I will never be Paula Radcliffe either, apart from needing a wee halfway round, my lungs are very shagpilish at the moment, even when I'm not running so God help me if I actually was. Glad you managed a bit further WhoKnows, that's what frustrated me when my lungs were playing up and I couldn't do what I normally did. It just made me give up. Which I shouldn't have because, as you know, it's taking me forever to start again. Sad

Linzer, hurrah re your phone!

Hope you have a safe trip home shredded, come and have a cup of tea on the way.

Happy running everyone, have a great weekend!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 06/01/2012 23:57

Thank you Nell! Be careful who you invite round for tea Grin

I have picked up my stuff for tomorrow. Rather fetching long sleeved navy blue top, and pink-edged bib with my number on it. I'll put a photo on my profile tomorrow. Wish me luck!

NellVarnish · 07/01/2012 10:54

Morning shredded! Best of luck today, you can do it! Remember to run like the coyotes are up your arse and don't forget your team songs!

Will go an put Mr Blue Sky on now so I will be with you in spirit Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/01/2012 10:56

Go Shredded, I will be thinking of you! That combination of running gear sounds like it adds up to purple, which can only be a good omen. Look forward to hearing from you afterwards!

Another good luck from me, shredded

Havimg run twice last weekend i realised goo late that i am nit fit enough and need a rest day in between. So took the week off Grin

Struggled round the park run. They are all very serious......

Stilll no purple polish here

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 07/01/2012 16:00

Morning all! I did it, and most importantly I WASN'T LAST despite not having time all week to put some purple go-faster stripes on my toe nails (which was why I wasn't very fast - well that's my story and I'm sticking to it Grin). I crossed the line in 1:12, but it took me about 3 mins to get to the start line as I was right at the back with the slow runners. DH and DS's came to cheer me on and it really helped. They were waiting at the top of the second hill, and again at the end and it gave me such a boost to see them. Thank you for all your good wishes, I thought of all of you on the way round. I will put a pic on my profile of me finishing and doing this Grin.
