Couch to 5k 2011 Part Four: Post even if you haven't run!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/10/2011 21:42

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear, the music we listen to, the gadgets we use and our nail varnish.

New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

Some of us are on our second time round now, so don't worry that you will be behind, just jump in whatever stage you are at.

Well doneCountess! PRSP stands for (in this group anyway) Post run smug phase and it feels gooooood! [hgrin] don't you think?

Hi runners, new, active and 'resting'!!

I am a bit like that myself recently, PIL have been visiting (but they've gone now) and have cramped my style a bit this week running and exercise wise, so I have only run on Sunday and Wednesday this week. I did an extra day at work today and couldn't face getting up and running in the dark (as I am kidding myself that it is only just past the end of summer and the clocks cannot possibly be changing next week....) beforehand so it will have to be a longer run again tomorrow, although DH has just suggested some Jillianing before tonights (homemade) pizza and Strictly/DVD vegout.

I am thinking of entering a half marathon or 10 mile run in the spring to force me to keep running during the winter Shock[hshock]. It took me 16 weeks to get to 10k/6 miles before, so I need it to be a longer distance than that otherwise I shall mentally skive off till Feb as I can still run for an hour now (if slower than i did before - what's that about?). But I am only thinking about it.... Anyone else want to commit to a longer distance to help them through the winter running?

Kristina most of us are ladies of a certain age too - you're in good company!!

Shredded enjoy the children being back.

Happy running and nail varnishing everyone. Although after gardening on Wednesday I managed to break another couple of nails. I only have one long one left - I think I may have to move on to my toenails for a while!

countessbabycham · 22/10/2011 17:52

Definately in PRSP,in that case!

NellVarnishedInAPuffOfSmoke · 22/10/2011 18:28

Jelli, long distance? Moi? Mwahahahaha! Good luck though, you are marvellisimo!

And have you looked at my Pinterest board, it is named in honour of you and DD, can you see? :)

I've had half a bottle of wonky neck Wine, there will be no more running from me today.

mollycuddles · 22/10/2011 18:38

I'll aim for a half in the spring as long as I don't get pg before then. not very as dd2 still perma-attached to boobs every night There's one in March near here I think.

JelliBelli · 22/10/2011 21:05

Grin Nell ,I'll show DD Thanks

BsshBossh · 22/10/2011 21:55

Hello, I'm still here, back from NY (loved it) but DD has cold and is sleeping loads so have not been able to get out and run at my most suitable time (mornings before work) so.... Will hopefully resume C25K next week. Still following thread though.

KristinaM · 22/10/2011 22:36

Molly, be careful! I managed to get pg when Ds1 was 9 months old , still feedijg in the night. No Af and defo NO BD. At least as far as i remember. But i was v v old

maybetoday · 22/10/2011 23:07

Well done countessbabysham. I'm so proud of you! Hope I can manage it too.
Meant to be doing W5R2 tomorrow morning, but have had both my little ones vomiting this evening... Hoping that it's just a 24hour things and they'll be better tomorrow and that I won't have caught it. Though I'm sure there nothing quite like those sleepy, slightly vomity kisses for spreading viruses. Hmm
Very impressed with all the nail varnish, unfortunately I can't get away with it at work and so have to save it for holidays. Did you see there was a programme about the Nailympics on Radio4 yesterday?
Happy running everyone.

countessbabycham · 22/10/2011 23:12

Oh maybe I hope your littlies are better soon and you get some sleep.Poor them! Make sure they've got The Sick Bowl.Sending all best wishes for you not getting it.

DD2 complained today of feeling sick and belly ache but it passed. But it still struck horror into me! (not good with sick bugs)

You will be able to do it.

BafangaTheSombre · 22/10/2011 23:23

Here you all are Grin
Not been out this week, ended up in bed for 2 days with a strange virusy thing! Actually that's a lie - I went out on Wednesday morning, and didn't even make it to 2km, before I turned around, coz I was just feeling so grim.

Back to work on Monday, so am looking forward to getting back into the routine.

nell thanks for the link to the China Glaze nail varnish, went hunting round the town today, and found it with the new colours, so my fingers and toes are both chocolate brown :). Twas also on 3 for 2, so I got the green and the grey as well Blush.

Hope everyone is doing ok.
Happy running!

countessbabycham · 22/10/2011 23:33

Bafanga sorry to hear you've been poorly.Give yourself a chance to get better properly before you go sprinting about the place.Smile

maybetoday · 23/10/2011 00:00

Thanks countess. Sorry you've been unwell too Bafanga. There seems to be loads of stuff going round at the moment.
molly and jelli - very impressed with all this talk of half marathons. When did you start running?
The weather's been not too bad so far, I quite like running in the rain, but wondering if I'll have to join a gym to keep running when it starts getting icy. Though hopefully the winter won't be as bad as last year. Were any of you running outside last winter?

LinzerTorte · 23/10/2011 07:08

maybe I didn't start running until April, but have been stocking up on winter running gear - I now have a lovely purple hat, two pairs of gloves and a sort of neck warmer thing (a bit like a scarf but not a scarf IYSWIM). Now I just need to get out and use them... Hope you and Bafanga are feeling better soon.

countess I'm not good with sick bugs either - glad to hear your DD2 was OK in the end. And WELL DONE on your 20 minute run; hope you're still enjoying the PRSP. Smile

Glad to hear you had a good time in New York, Bssh.

Molly I had to stop bfing before I could get pregnant - it worked as a contraceptive for me after both DDs for 16/17 months! Obviously I only relied on it as I didn't mind getting pregnant a bit earlier than planned; after I'd had DS, I sorted out proper contraception straight away! Hope you're feeling better soon too.

Nell You need to add a picture of you running in your bright green wellies to Pinterest. Wink

Welcome Prince. Smile

Kristina My impending 40th was one of the reasons I took up running; I decided there was only so long I could go on doing absolutely no exercise.

Good luck with the 20 minutes today stranded!

I won't be running today as we're off to Bratislava for some retail therapy as soon as I've got up, but managed to get quite a bit of work done yesterday so I haven't lost hope of going out next week.

mollycuddles · 23/10/2011 08:13

Morning all. I'm planning on going out this am as feel fine. We are meant to be trying for dc4 so getting pg wouldn't be a bad thing but would prevent me moving up to a half or a full marathon. I intend to do both eventually. I'm doing my third 10k in mid November.
Spent stupid money on new jeans and a gilet in Guess yesterday. Feeling slightly guilty.
I started running c25k in February. Got to 5 miles by July and then started doing park run and occasional races from end of august. Am planning about a race a month.
The big 4-0 looms here too. But my main motivation was dd2 whose arrival means no chance of retirement before 60 and that wasn't going to work with a BMI of 46. I started trying to eat sensibly and walk and moved up to running once I'd lost the first 4 stone. I've lost almost 5 since I started to run. If I can become a runner anybody can.

BafangaTheSombre · 23/10/2011 10:03

Thanks for all the kind comments, you guys are awesome!
molly 5 stone is amazing - well done you! I think you definitely deserved a gilet and jeans. :)

I am almost a bit nervous of going out seeing as the last time was such a disaster, but need to, feel I am missing it.

Glad to find some other Pinterest addicts, I can while away many an hour on that blasted site at the moment :). How do you find people on it, I have been very secular on it at the moment, just creating my boards, and losing mountains of time. (at least its not Farmville though Blush)

Right off to get ready for the day
Have a good one all!

JelliBelli · 23/10/2011 13:45

Molly did I read you right - you've lost 9 stone altogether? Shock A-maze-ing!!! What an inspiration you are !!!!

Maybe I started running on 26 April this year, by the middle of August I could run 10k and have kind of maintained that since. I am 44 and was a proper exercise dodger beforehand.

Been out running with DH this morning again. It felt like hard work but the time was a few minutes better than last week, so thats probably why, phew! We did do some Jillianing last night (No More Trouble Zones) but I always find the first circuit hard - it's all shoulder and upper arm stuff) so when I cut up/wrestled with the squash for lunch my shoulders were complaining with the ache!! [wimp emoticon]. Still thats what growing muscles feels like i guess/hope....

Nell DD and I are very happy with seeing her Nail Garnish on tinternet WinkThanks. i will have much more time on my hands in the evenings next month for a while so I am looking forward to filling it browsing Pinternet and more MNing.

Good luck to everyone with a sick bug in their home. I'd better go as DH is getting grumpy as I am on the kitchen table on the laptop and it's lunchtime!

Happy garnishing everyone

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 23/10/2011 13:57

W5R3 done, I set off a bit too fast and really struggled in the 10-15 minute part of it but the overall speed was OK, definitely faster than I could have done over 20 minutes a couple of months ago. I find this quite consistently, that I struggle in the 10-15 minute part, once I get past that I'm OK again. I think I might give it another try before I move up to Week 6, would like to do it at a more steady pace instead of a fast 10 mins/slow 10 mins.

Not sure when I started out, it was about Feb I think, but I don't think I pushed myself very hard the first couple of months and had a few weeks off with a hurt knee at one point, so it was slow progress. I'm really pleased I started over again though, I have made a real increase in my speed second time round.

NellVarnishedInAPuffOfSmoke · 23/10/2011 14:08

I'm just having a little sit down for five mins or so as I have been quite the domestic goddess today after my welly boot run yesterday Wink.

Poor Bafanga, hope you're feeling a bit better now. What's your Pinterest name? I'm here if you want to have a look at my stuff. If anyone wants an invite, pm me and I'll send you one. I love it I do. 3 for 2 on China Glaze? Shriek! Buy more! This is a lovely colour on if you can get hold of it.

Jelli I'm so pleased your DD likes it, we all call it that now in our house thanks to you and DD, tis very descriptive indeed! When I read about you all doing 10k and a the like I am so Envy that I didn't carry on. But I will do it again. My feet are itching.

Glad you had fun in NY Bssh, would be impossible not to though, such a fabulous city.

Linzer. What did you buy in Bratislava then today? Do they have Bratislavian nail garnish there?

maybe hope your littlies are better now and you don't catch anything. What was this Nailympics thing then? Sounds more up my street [lazy cow emoticon] than Olympics. Grin

I am in awe of you molly, as I am always on some sort of diet with varying success over the years. I swear I have put the same three stone on several thousand times. To be truthful it is getting me down a bit at the moment, but I just can't seem to motivate myself with that, or with running. I need to do something though. You totally deserve your jeans and gilet!

Good luck to everyone else with your runs and your health if you've been poorly.

Tonight I am going to get my running gear out, I am, honest, and put it somewhere I can see it glaring at me, so that I don't have to fish about in the dark looking for socks and purple gloves and iPods and the like, and then if I can muster up the courage, get out there in the morning before work.

NellVarnishedInAPuffOfSmoke · 23/10/2011 14:09

WhoKnows, this gives me hope that I can do it again.

JelliBelli · 23/10/2011 15:30

Whoknows this second time around are you running faster and walking or running faster and jogging in between? You are starting to inspire me to go back and do it again at a faster pace, I think !! Wink

have you got your kit together yet Nell? (nag, nag, nag!!)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 23/10/2011 16:06

Jogging to warm up then running faster and walking Nell. Will pop back later for more chat....

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 23/10/2011 16:06

Sorry, I mean Jelli.....

LinzerTorte · 23/10/2011 16:08

Did you look like this, Nell?

We had a very successful shopping trip and picked up lots of bargains at M&S, and - even more excitingly - guess what I spotted in the middle of the shopping centre? An OPI nail bar! I was being dragged along by the DC so only had time to gaze for a few seconds at the 50 or 60 bottles of varnish on display and read that their cheapest manicure was an OPI Express at ?7, but I shall definitely have to make time on our next visit. Grin

Bafanga I dread to think how many hours of my life I wasted on Farmville. I managed to kick the habit, only to discover MN instead. Blush (Ironically, I found MN through FV.)

molly Well done on the weight loss, that's brilliant.

NellVarnishedInAPuffOfSmoke · 23/10/2011 16:30

Linzer mwahahahahahahaha!

Result btw re OPI. Next time. And don't worry about not mentioning running, I thought this was a nail warnish thread anyway. Grin

Where has that LooseHooker got to? She will be tangled up in wool somewhere, and shredded will be tangled up in cuddles from her boys, awww.

PS Jelli, I have got my trainers out and my iPod is on charge, but that's as far as I've got. I was just thinking as I was driving back from yet another Mum's Taxi ride that if, if, I started tomorrow and was really good, I would finish just before Christmas.

That would be really good if I did it.

LinzerTorte · 23/10/2011 17:02

LooseHooker (is that a crochet term?) was last seen posting on FB that she'd had a crochet hook confiscated from her hand luggage. I had a bottle of golden syrup taken off me once; I was devastated. But stocked up on more in M&S today. Grin

Nell Thank you for letting me off. I'm now wondering whether I might in fact have time to go out for a run tomorrow, as work is looking slightly more doable by the deadline and DS's speech therapy has been postponed. I'll go if you do. Grin
