Couch to 5k 2011 Part Four: Post even if you haven't run!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/10/2011 21:42

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear, the music we listen to, the gadgets we use and our nail varnish.

New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

Some of us are on our second time round now, so don't worry that you will be behind, just jump in whatever stage you are at.

Evening stranger!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 13/12/2011 02:23

Hello stranger! Howya doing?

JingleNells · 13/12/2011 16:43

Evening stranger (carrying on with the theme) where have you gone?

I've just got back from a barefoot run. Ran 12K wearing nothing but a Santa Suit, purple nipple tassells, and a purple beanie. Did it in 35 mins. Did the Shred too before I went out and I'm doing Davina McCall's DVD while I'm typing this with one hand and making tea with the other.

[smugtastic emoticon]

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 13/12/2011 17:14

No run today, but I have got the most purple-tastic nails Temptation.

Nell - they would go well with your tassles.....

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 14/12/2011 01:11

Yeah, right Nell Grin

LinzerTinsel · 14/12/2011 08:06

And I'm in the middle of doing an ultra marathon as I write... just stopping every few hours to shred. Xmas Grin

Can't see your nail colour WhoKnows but I think I may go for purple next too - probably this evening, as For Audrey is starting to chip.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 14/12/2011 08:20

It's the one I bought in London that day Linzer

Kristingle · 14/12/2011 12:48

Hi all marathon runners and manic housewives

I havent posted as i havet run due to terrible weather and only wear tasteful beige polish

Went out today for first time in about 10 days. Have stinkijg cold but managed to break 28 mins so am v pleased. Still thinking about trying my first park run on saturday. Have stupid idea of doing my first in 2012 and christmas day not ideal with 3 LOsGrin

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 14/12/2011 12:55

at all the exercising that has been going on.

I'm just popping out to swim the Atlantic...I may be some time Xmas Grin

LinzerTinsel · 14/12/2011 13:33

Fab colour WhoKnows; all that sparkliness is very festive too.

Well done on breaking the 28 minute barrier, Kristingle; are you going for 27 minutes now?

Arf at Shredded - I'll wave to you if we pass each other on my round the world swim. Xmas Grin

JelliBelli · 14/12/2011 14:05

at all the exercising endeavours Xmas Grin

I only managed 2 miles yesterday Xmas Hmm as I was short of time and on my way to my work's christmas dinner and I was lucky enough to time it between downpours showers. It was a very blustery night though so I was fast on my way out but running into a headwind on the way back. What a wind! But anyway I am off again on my running having been a bit wimpy the last couple of weeks due to staying up too late too often and giving myself having a cold!

I got my new Billy Blanks workout DVD yesterday when I got in so I have done that this morning. It was mostly ok but I am not good at the kicks and punches. The DCs would have hysterics at me as they are old hands at Tae Kwon Do and I was pretty rubbish after years of critiquing them! well it's something to work on and improve eh?

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 14/12/2011 17:25

Practice on your own for a bit Jelli then take the DCs by surprise with a virtuoso display of kicking and punching. Well done for starting something new at this time of year!

Well done to you Kristingle on your 28 min breakthrough.

Not been out today, had no plans to TBH as it was work followed by DD's nativity play so no time. Also I have come down with a cold, so not feeling too good. Will try and get out tomorrow or Friday though .

Talking of challenges (and swimming), a friend of mine has been on an adult swimming course this term and gone from struggling to do one length of front crawl to being able to do 50 comfortably. I am thinking of following her example, as my swimming technique is makeshift to say the least, not to mention slow and inefficient.

JingleNells · 14/12/2011 20:18

at swimming the Atlantic shredded and around the world Linzer. Xmas Grin That's so last year though. For amateurs really.

When I got home from work tonight I fancied a bit of fresh air so I headed up to the Cairngorms, didn't take me long to run there. Did a bit of ski-ing too just to stretch after the run and had a quick hot chocolate with Pistey, and then ran back in time to make a cake and a five course a la carte meal for the family. Just nipped on here to show off really.

How's the miniTorte today? Any better? Hope so. Xmas Smile

Well done on your 28min run Kristingle, I like your Christmas name. I'm imagining you looking like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=christingle&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=s&biw=1024&bih=407&tbm=isch&tbnid=bAU00IfHLB_yDM:&imgrefurl=www.bbc.co.uk/tees/content/articles/2007/12/05/christingle_feature.shtml&docid=ZRuatRkwewScmM&imgurl=www.bbc.co.uk/berkshire/content/images/2005/12/08/christingle_203_203x152.jpg&w=203&h=152&ei=6gHpTqqsJoj54QS9lM2hCQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=287&vpy=169&dur=4499&hovh=121&hovw=162&tx=87&ty=94&sig=101999652086835422060&page=1&tbnh=81&tbnw=104&start=0&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> this, which is quite a pleasing image don't you think?

WhoKnows I love that sparkly colour, tis gorgeoise! I don't think you'll find the Three Peaks very challenging to be perfectly honest. I did them last night before bed and it was pimps.

And Jelli, that Billy Blanks thing looks scary. Even to me, BearGryllsBra.

Oh oh, must dash, <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=usain+bolt&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=s&biw=1024&bih=407&tbm=isch&tbnid=1XenqOY4DAeZ4M:&imgrefurl=allsportseverything.com/2011/05/todays-sports-tweet-usain-bolt-on-todays-race/&docid=JKXGc8jxGPgz3M&imgurl=allsportseverything.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/usain-bolt-olympics-200m.jpg&w=500&h=300&ei=qQPpTrecHdPR4QTOu7npCA&zoom=1" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">someone's just come to see if I'll go out and play.

Xmas Grin
LinzerTinsel · 14/12/2011 20:43

Kicks and punches sound rather scary, Jelli - don't do yourself an injury! Hope the cold is better now. DH is out at his work Christmas party tomorrow night so I'm going to have an early night with my book and iPod in case I feel the need to MN. Really I am.

WhoKnows Hope you're feeling better soon. Good luck with the Three Peaks Challenge. I must admit I don't find three a challenge at all any more, but have just completed a Ninety Eight Peaks Challenge that left me slightly out of breath.

Nells Ah, so that's where Pistey is - up the Cairngorms sipping hot chocolate. Well, if you have to be anywhere, that's as good a place as any I suppose. Gosh, your friend looked pleased to see you. Hope you had fun playing with him.

MiniTorte is far better thank you, or at least I thought so. I sent him back to kindergarten yesterday, only for him to tell me afterwards that he was still ill. His kindergarten teacher told him so apparently. I think I win the prize for mean mummy of the month. Xmas Blush

Round-the-world swim now completed, so off to do another ultramarathon now - bed is for lightweights.

JingleNells · 14/12/2011 22:00

at Ninety Eight Peaks Challenge Linzer, and yes, he was very pleased to see me. In fact he's sending his friend round to call for me tomorrow night, get a marathon in quick before the Ninety Eight Peak Challenge.

Xmas Wink
NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 15/12/2011 06:18

I don't often laugh out loud at my computer but this is the second time this week I have done so. Once at one of pistey's FB updates and now Linzer's round the world swim. And Nell's visitors.

I was asked today if I'd help behind the bar at my big boss's Christmas party (tomorrow evening). It must be the fantabulous scarf Nell sent me not the Bet Lynch hairdo and earrings I usually sport

LinzerTinsel · 15/12/2011 07:47

I lolled (sorry) at Nell's friends too. But this thread is always making me laugh, although I have never snorted tea over my keyboard as so many MNers seem to do. I like the look of your friends, Nell - maybe we could all train together? Xmas Grin

Ah, so it was the MN scarf then Shredded? You are so kind to us poor deprived overseas MNers Nell; you are welcome to remain on this thread as long as you like even if you never run again. Xmas Wink

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 15/12/2011 16:45

Nellyyyyyyyyyyyyy.............

Behave yourself!!

DD's rowing coach is currently rowing the Atlantic. It will take 3 months, just him and his wife. I mean, would you? Well maybe Nelly you would!!

Yes I sold one shoe, a boys black school shoes size 8.5G to someone up North.

Hully says I'm a shoe trafficker Grin

Right, I'm off to read all your words!

JingleNells · 15/12/2011 17:32

Rowing the Atlantic? Pah. I rowed round the world once. Alone. Bare nekkid too. Lightweights.

Xmas Grin
Kristingle · 15/12/2011 17:38

I Heard mark beaumont today talking abut rowing accross the mid atlantic, 6 of thme in a 11 m boat. Which is 2m longer that the one they rowed across the artic in. Maybe i should have told him about you guys

Beautiful day here so of course ive been at work all day and no chance to run

Nell -that photo is an uncanny likeness of meSmile

JingleNells · 15/12/2011 17:39

You lot are making me chortle and snort Sauvignon blanc tea out of my delicate nostrils too!

at shoe trafficking - whatever next Pistey?! But why? Why did he buy it? You owe it to us to find out.

at the Bet Lynch of NY City too, serving pints and pork scratchings behind the bar. Xmas Grin

And what of poor Linzer with her chipped nail varnish slattern? Oh and me and Eddie will be running past your window any moment, am running a quick marathon round Austria with him whilst MN'ing on my shiny new phone that I'm scared to open the bill for. Chuck us a bottle of water out as we speed past eh Linzer?

Kristingle · 15/12/2011 17:40

Oh i forgot the relevant point...which was tney when they rowed on the equator they WERE nekkid. Just like nell

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 15/12/2011 17:53

Nelly my lovely - I don't think I want to find out!!
Knotty said there was a 'market' - she was right.

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 15/12/2011 17:54

And I'm going for a manicure tomozzles AND I'm going purple and glittery and OPI - ish

JingleNells · 15/12/2011 17:57

Bwahahahaha Grin

Oh I've just seen all the emoticons in a row on my phone - sans Santa hats. But the bear is there. They ate shouting at me to press them all ...
