Couch to 5k 2011 Part Four: Post even if you haven't run!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/10/2011 21:42

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear, the music we listen to, the gadgets we use and our nail varnish.

New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

Some of us are on our second time round now, so don't worry that you will be behind, just jump in whatever stage you are at.

Ooh, Linzer, missed that, well done to Mr Tinsel.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 02/12/2011 21:07

Bright gold nails with that dress I think

brighthair · 02/12/2011 21:09

Whoknows - great minds and all that!! Gone with models own golden green Grin

JingleNells · 02/12/2011 21:24

Oh that dress is gorgeoise brighthair and think the goldygreen will be perfect with it and you will look young and stunning. Envy

Linzer tell MrLinzer that I think he is a very nice man, clearly extremely intelligent to have married you and the generosity of his spirit is shining through the ether from Austria and see if that works. Wink

brighthair · 02/12/2011 21:27

nearly dress disaster! Put it on to find it has bloody foam bra cups in it. Just about cover my nipple! Have unpicked stitching, taken them out and sewn it back up
Now struggling with bra to fit under it.... strapless ones don't exist in my size Grin

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 04/12/2011 01:36

I popped in last night to congratulate Mr Linzer but my post isn't here Confused. I was an assessment centre assessor in a past life and always felt sorry for the candidates.

I am feeling like a proper athlete tonight. i went running too soon after lunch, did a really long (14k) run, came home and promptly threw up. According to DH, it's because I over-did it. So he is cooking me a steak and baked potato to build my strength back up.

I have foolishly after too much wine registered for the Manhattan half marathon in 7 weeks time Shock. So will need to do some more long runs - jelli are you still up for training with me?

brighthair · 04/12/2011 03:37

I changed my mind and wore a black dress. Drank my body weight in wine and eaten an Indian banquet Blush

LinzerTinsel · 04/12/2011 11:23

14k, Shredded? Xmas Shock You really are a proper athlete. I used to feel sick if I ran too soon after breakfast and that was only running 5k. I wish I was up to training with you, but am still on 1.5k runs. Xmas Sad I didn't get out this weekend after all (and don't think I'll manage it this afternoon as we're putting up the decorations and tree) and think I might do another week of 1.5k's next week as I'm worried about doing too much too soon.

Sounds like a lovely evening, brighthair. Xmas Grin

Nell I told DH what you said last night. He muttered something in German along the lines of "flatttery will get you nowhere". However, I think it might have done the trick as he's just asked me to find out what time the mobile phone shops open. Xmas Grin

sybilfaulty · 04/12/2011 11:47

Linzer, for lots of dull, upgrade related reasons I bought an HTC rather than an i phone last year and so regret it. Hope you get DH to open his wallet.

Shredded, you are amazing, but make me feel guilty as at one point we were at the same stage and now you are an amaxing athlete and I am glued to the sofa. Still haven't run, but have had a very dodgy tum and so not really able to do anything.

I do feel hugely optimistic about December, not least as I love Christmas but also because this is the first year in ages that I haven't begun the descent into overeating and self loathing. I am still about 10lb heavier than I'd like but my clothes fit, I actually have a choice of outfits as I am not ruling things out for being too fat (well, one dress, but usually about 10) and I feel good. I think most of that is down to exercise. I fell off the running when the builders were here but I have swum, and I am intending to run again shortly. This thread has really helped. Thank you all. Which week shall I start again at? Week 3?

I also found the shred DVD, still in its wrapper. Oh dear. Am going to have to brave it. Wish me luck.

Happy Sunday everyone.

JelliBelli · 04/12/2011 18:26

Firstly congratulations to Mr Torte. I am sure he is as generous as he is able!! Xmas Grin

Shredded that's an impressive run! Well done. Xmas Envy

Oh the shame!!! I am not sure I am up to running with you.... Well, what I mean is I am unlikey to be able to motivate myself. I miss running with DH so it doesn't take toooo much for me to wimp out of running. I was really cold at work on Thursday and Friday and just wanted to come home and curl up in a ball (dratted customers kept coming in and leaving the door gaping open) so i did! And then yesterday and today it was snowing and running wasn't practical. Just to put the record straight I have been shredding but not running - honest. I certainly like the idea of it but lack motivation just now Xmas Sad. I can cheer at the side lines if you like Xmas Grin.

Nell any progress?

Sybil i think W3 would be fine. Why not give it a whirl and see how you go? I think the worst part is planning to do it. Once you start and you're on a roll you'll be away again.

I am going to a school play tomorrow night so no time for me to run after work. Will try to fit a quick shred in though, if i don't get back too late.

JingleNells · 04/12/2011 19:22

shredded 14K is magnificent even if you were sick, and I think you are fabulous! Well done! I will be here cheering you on for the next seven weeks and during your half marathon - you are an inspiration to us all!

Flattery, Herr Linzer? Nein. I speak the truth. Wink

Linzer, any luck yet? I love mine but the battery seems to go flat quickly due to me looking at the OPI app. I'm just doing my nails with China Glaze Hey Sailor, and then DD3 is painting a little reindeer on one of the nails. :)

Jelli, actually you will be quite surprised at me, for I wore my running shoes today because I discovered my boots had a hole in the sole and it was pouring. Ballerina flats were not going to stand up to the torrential downpour we had, so running shoes it was, although I felt a bit mismatched. They felt lovely. I almost sprinted round the shops. Grin So progress of a sort ...

sybil, budge up on the sofa and make room for me. I've not been running either. Last time I re-started on W5, and lost interest fairly quickly as I was huffing and puffing like Thomas The Tank, so if when I do it again, I'll either start from scratch or around week 3 like you. Sounds good.

Did you have a good time brighthair?

brighthair · 04/12/2011 20:41

I had a fab time, bit rough today though and very sore feet!!
Running is having to be put on hold for a few days. I have an open wound (skin ripped for no reason) in a rather delicate area. Going to ring GP tomorrow but looks like it may need glue or stitches

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 04/12/2011 22:58

Ouch brighthair, that sounds sore!

JingleNells · 04/12/2011 23:53
Shock

The mind boggles brighthair!

Watch out for the postie this week my little shredded wheat!

brighthair · 05/12/2011 00:44

I have no idea how it happened. It's basically right on the knicker line so horseriding, gym or just walking are not helping it heal

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 05/12/2011 03:17

Oooh jingle, will do xx

LinzerTinsel · 05/12/2011 05:03

I will be going for my overdue run this morning. Unless it's ridiculously frosty and slippery outside. I shall put my running gear on anyway.

sybil Good to hear you're feeling so optimistic; I also feel much better about myself since I started running and I'm not sure I would have managed to keep going without this thread either.
Btw a friend was proudly showing me her new HTC last week and all I could think was that it didn't look half as good as an iPhone...

Jelli It's hard to motivate yourself when it's so cold outside, isn't it? I don't know how I'll cope if/when it starts snowing. Luckily I've only had to postpone one or two runs due to icy pavements, but it can only get colder...

Nell Yes, I've heard that the battery life isn't great - DH says his colleagues are always complaining. (Yet another reason for him to buy me one: he'll be getting one when his current phone dies as they're now standard issue where he works. But he doesn't particularly want one. Xmas Shock) I think we're making progress, anyway. Xmas Grin
Lovely colour btw - very Christmassy. I am also keeping an eye out for the postman in case he has anything nice for me. Xmas Wink

brighthair Ouch, that sounds painful. Hope the GP can help.

brighthair · 05/12/2011 14:27

All dressed by nurse, got to go back on Thursday. Has to be changed everytime I go for a wee!
Oh and as she put it "no running, gym or marital relations" Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 05/12/2011 14:32

Well, I decided that as I was a bit tight for time today I would do the shred instead of running, got all changed, found the DVd and bloody thing wouldn't work, the DVD player appears not to be connected. DH has been fiddling with it all again (got a new sky box a couple of weeks ago). There are so many cables behind our telly that I wouldn't know where to start. Grrrr. So I have done my bad back exercises instead and am going to hoover, not impressed.

KristinaM · 05/12/2011 18:19

Little bit of snow here yesterday and lots today so mo running for me. Whoknows , you have reminded me about my shred dvd which i guess i could do tonight. Especially as school is closed tomorrow ( normally a gym day)

Havent seen jillain for so long now.......

maybetoday · 05/12/2011 21:29

Hey everyone,
Missed running yesterday and today because of the snow and it looks like tomorrow is going to be out too. Might do some Christmas shopping online instead. :)
Shredded I'm so impressed by your 14k run. Wow.
Hope you get an iphone soon Linzer. I'm still trying to figure mine out, but I think I'm in love already.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 05/12/2011 23:39

Must just tell you about my new nail varnish No 17 Sulk. Best new colour I have had for a while, and all for the princely sum of £2.99.

DH has re-connected the DVD player so if I don't run soon I will have to shred.....

Brighthair - ouch, hope it heals up quickly.

LinzerTinsel · 06/12/2011 07:45

Fab colour, WhoKnows - and what a bargain. I still have bare nails as I'm waiting for the postman to bring me some lovely new shades; I got very excited when he handed me a parcel yesterday, only to discover it was a Christmas present for DD2. Ah well, am keeping my fingers crossed for today.

Hope the snow melts soon so that you can get out, Kristina and maybe. No sign of any here yet other than a few flakes last week.

Good news on the iPhone front: Orange have got an offer on atm where you don't have to pay for the first two months, the activation fee or for transferring the number of your old phone. DH is going to try to get to an Orange shop today to try to find out more (and also I'm not sure exactly what type of plan I need - I'm sure 100 MB wouldn't be enough, but 1 GB or 2 GB per month?), although we may have to order online as I think the two months free bit of the offer is only valid online. Progress is being made, at any rate. Xmas Grin

Went out for my run yesterday, but nothing much to report - 1.5k again, which I'll do twice more before I move up to 2k next week. I suppose I could do 2k tomorrow now that I've run 1.5k three times without any problems, but I don't want to overdo it. Xmas Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 06/12/2011 09:11

Linzer - I have just had a quick look back at my phone statements, I go over 100Mb most months and I don't use it outside the house (where it is on Wi-Fi) all that much, browsing email, MN and FB at work, and the GPS for running are the main things. I haven't really gone much above 150MB though, I download music, Apps etc at home, so if you were similar to me 1GB should be plenty.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 06/12/2011 09:12

I should add that it is easier to up yourself to 2GB if you need it than go down from a 2GB contract to a 1GB one.
