DrNortherner · 05/08/2011 22:09

I knew instantly it was you from your post

Oh and naff off with your sub 50 targets Wink

DrNortherner · 05/08/2011 22:10

Haven't said naff off since I was 13. Hope you find some custard creaks.

DrNortherner · 05/08/2011 22:10

Of course that should be custard creams

rhetorician · 05/08/2011 22:16

that IS freaky! alas no creaky custards, only choc covered marshmallows I never remember that they don't have any proper food in their house...

Yes Rhet, wondering what sort of "wrong" biscuits you have been saddled with! How is DP, have the iron supplements kicked in yet?

Welcome back DrNo and well done on running in the heat as well as new race!

Sorry bout the shin splints Emma, bummer.

Have been lurking while packing. Moving tomorrow. Why is it so hellish? Just never bloody ending. Really wish I would just grow up, buy a house, and never leave. This is 10th move in 14 years, though to be fair we have been in present flat for 4 years. Very glad am doing it at almost 6 months pregnant and not any later. If I don't post for a few day, please send help. I may be stuck under some boxes.

Hope y'all get some good running in this weekend!

peachsmuggler · 05/08/2011 22:26

Cross posts Rhet, they sound vile, unless of course you are talking about Tunnocks Teacakes, which are magic!!

rhetorician · 05/08/2011 22:30

alas, not Tunnocks - sorry about moving trauma - we are never ever moving/restoring a house again (have negative equity, anyway...) Hope you are getting lots of help

DP much better - able to move more than 5 paces and hold a conversation simultaneously again (she went to get in the car to go to DN's 3rd birthday party still wearing her slippers, bless her). DD2 is an acrobat, seemingly, flipping and kicking a lot.

DebiTheScot · 05/08/2011 22:39

Mmmm tunnocks teacakes. Yum yum.
Good luck with the move peach. I'm only really ever on 2 mn threads and on my other one (a postnatal one) someone is moving house tomorrow- I had a moment of wondering if you were the same person pretending to be 2! She's not pg though and I don't think she runs.

We're off on holiday tomorrow. A week camping in Cornwall and 2 nights in a hotel and a wedding at the end of the week. I've packed my running stuff buut don't know if I'll get out.
When I get back the training needs to start again. I've got a list of races to enter when I get back.
A 40km cycle in Sept, a 10k run at start of Oct, a duathlon (5k run, 40k bike, 5k run eek) mid Oct and a 10k run in Nov. Mmm that sounds like a lot, hope dh doesn't mind!

stickylittlefingers · 05/08/2011 22:48

peach you have my sympathy. For years I hated those credit checks where you had to give your last 5 years' worth of addresses. But, I have had an address for 5 years now! Have been to live in other places, but had a constant base. Oh the bliss of gathering moss! I hope you reach this nirvana... good luck with the move.

rhet, there must be an emergency number for such situations surely? I was once sponsored by Tunnocks, and had so many free caramel wafers. And never got fed up with them! They are the best biscuit of the wrapped variety. But bourbons are better than custard creams (they are even vegan). Glad to hear your DP is feeling a bit better. Tis the weirdest feeling having someone training as a kickboxer inside of you. Very Sigourney Weaver Wink.

Didn\t manage any running today as wasn't to bed until 4 and then up again at 8, so just walking about was all I was able for. Tomorrow, tho. Once I've taken the terrible twosome to the Horrid Henry movie (to pick up tips, no doubt Hmm)

stickylittlefingers · 05/08/2011 22:49

have a lovely holiday, debi - hope the weather is kind to you!

stickylittlefingers · 05/08/2011 22:52

sorry, I'm reading this backwards - really sorry to hear you had to pull out of the run, Emma. You do sound quite together about it, though. Tough cookie that you are :)

peachsmuggler · 06/08/2011 07:05

Blimey Debi, that's keen! How exciting though to have so many races! Have a brilliant time in Cornwall it sounds blissful!

Sticky. you were sponsored by Tunnocks? OMG, that is awesome. Agree caramel wafers are the king of the wrapped biscuit. When I was little they used to sell them loose, with no chocolate, for 2p a pop at a local grocery store near us. Makes me sound like I was born in the war but makes me think of the biscuit bit in The Elephant and the Bad Baby Smile Enjoy the film, it looks..erm very poor, but I bet the kids willl love it!!

Wheelybug · 06/08/2011 10:44

Mornign all.

welcome back DrNo - great holiday photos and well done on running - I shall use you as my inspiration when I am away as I am very good at using heat and not knowing where I am going as an excuse ! As for the water bottle issues - I have ordered the bigger hand held one and think I'll order a belt as well. DH lieks the idea of a belt when he gets running further so it won't go to waste.

Sorry about pulling out of the race emma but sounds like a sensible decision.

Good luck with them move peach. I'm a wierdo that quite likes moving and has v. itchy feet having been in current house 5 years - the longest in adulthood. But having just done an extension we have to stay for a while !

So my big news is I have done 10 miles this morning - woohoo !! According to my garmin 10.5 miles but according to mapmyrun 10.1. I am inclined to belive the latter. 1 hr 30 mins 02 seconds. So very pleased. Virtually threw up at 5 miles after a big hill but then chose the route back to include a couple more hills so I could prove to myself I could do it without vomming.

Hoping to spend the rest of the day eating ;-)

Wheelybug · 06/08/2011 10:46

have a good hol debi !

Do report back on the HH movie Sticky .... although we never get round to seeing films but am sure dd1 would like it.

rhetorician · 06/08/2011 14:46

wheelybug great time, great achievement! wish I could say the same, but I feel terrible today - exhausted, no energy etc. And I had been hoping to get out for a few easy miles, and then a 10+ miler tomorrow. My training plan is in bits.

DrNortherner · 06/08/2011 16:52

Well done Wheely, that's a huge achievement. Good for you! I let my long runs slip after my hal and have not run 10 miles for aaages.

Managed 6 miles today but still have a head cold hanging around and this affected my form. Too much catarrh (tmi?) which for someone who spits without a head full of snot is not good Grin

Anyway, chucked sticks in the river for my dog and when I got home I noticed his tail was firmly tucked between his legs and he can't wag it. He was yelping when I tried to touch it. Swift trip to the vet robbing bastard and he has 'swimmers tail' so anti inflam's and pain killers for him, and I am £78 lighter.

squix · 06/08/2011 17:19

wheely - well done, brilliant time too.

rhet Sad hope you feel better soon

DrNorthener's dog (doggynorthener?) hope you feel better soon too.

Long very slow 10 miles today - was warm for up here - I ran across to a local stately home where they were setting up for a Boyzone concert later - no sign of Ronan though. It was lovely this am - absolutely bucketing down now - they will get very soggy.

rhetorician · 06/08/2011 18:23

drNo sorry about your poorly dog and your poorly wallet (we have adopted a policy of wait and see with cat injuries having been pointlessly relieved of ?100+ too many times)

So I feel cruddy - sort of digestive, but more zombified really. Very irritated as was planning on starting a running streak today and getting a bit worried about my lack of long runs given the imminence of my races...but nothing I can do about it - i can't run today and that's that

Boyzone: that takes me back - when I first lived in Dublin i lived very close to the national tv station and whenever they were performing you could hear the teenage girls scream for miles around...the things we have to look forward to, eh Hmm

hello
have been frantically trying to catch up and can see there are quite a few newbies - lovely the more the better Smile

wheely great time super impressed you must be be on a high

rhet I thought it was you but kept quiet in case it was a deliberate bid for privacy, paranoid moi? Grin just had to do it before to hide from loony poster

  • hope you feel better soon, and next time do not trust the biscuitless people take your own supply

debi great pics, welcome back from heat training

peach hope move and bump all ok

emma sorry about the shins bloody painful, it will get better

drN is the sub 50 for 10K or a half? Grin

science impressed on press ups, am utterly rubbish at them, must try harder (they fell like punishment -drop and give me 50 - shudder)

sonic so sorry to hear about your dd, so much harder when it is the little ones, best wishes

I feel a bit like a fraud in the running stakes since school broke up, I have been deeply involved in business start up, it will still take ages but the preliminaries take quite a bit of work and added stress. dh has been doing long hrs and my time for running has been limited

but I think I have managed to sort out a doable plan to start prep for the 10k, I am sure it will help manage stress

happy running all

stickylittlefingers · 06/08/2011 22:27

that sounds like a lovely afternoon science!

rhet, sure you will, but I'll say it anyway - do listen to what your body's telling you and let yourself properly recover. Rest and repair...

So, HH was great, I just needed to be about 30 years younger to fully appreciate it! DDs were giving out great belly laughs, so it was funny watching them :)... Amazing who they got to be in it, though. I guess it didn't say anything on the paycheck about total loss of dignity! Definitely an enjoyable one for the children, though - a good treat.

No running here :( - this afternoon was one long thunderstorm and torrential rain. Another day down, and I'm not even a bit ill! Tomorrow morning...

rhetorician · 06/08/2011 22:38

herecomesthesciencebint - that's true, I know, and just need to keep the larger picture in mind. Feel gruesome, truth be told, achy, chills, no appetite...

totally think you made the right decision for your afternoon - sometimes it just seems more important; after all, they probably won't remember or care that you did 5 miles, but they might recall that great afternoon on the beach in years to come. I think so much of this is about giving children a fabulous bank of happy memories to draw on when things are hard. And those are all simple things ime

DD and I watched Toy Story 2 on the sofa - she couldn't follow all of it, but liked some bits, and gave me lots of hugs...

DrNortherner · 06/08/2011 22:41

Oh Rhet that sounds like you have the flu. No running till you feel better you hear?
