Just booked my first spin class so if anyone has any tips they would be gratefully received! Do I need padded shorts for my arse?

I wish the classes were in semi darkness in my gym! Alas, this pasrticular establishment is very proud of it's state of the art spinning studio and so has a camera in it so that everyone in the main gym can watch the poor sods in the spin class on a 60" plasma screen...The management of my gym are sadistic bastards.

I was 18st when I first went spinning, high blood pressure and could barely pedal for a constant 45 minutes even in the lowest gears. Stubbornly kept going and 12 months later (and 6st lighter!) I now burn around 800 calories in 45 minutes. It is addictive!

Anchovies, were you fairly fit when you started? I'm worried that I'll have to give up after just a few minutes. Did you diet as well? I'm overweight but exercise never seems to shift the pounds.

No ime exercise won't alone. Wasn't there a study about his recently. It's all portions size. By binning carbs and snacks I lost 7lbs in 3 weeks just

Good class last night - 310 calories in 45 mins. Last week I kept my gears too low but this week tried to at least get up to the region the instructor was setting the gears at and it was actually a bit easier and enjoyable!

For anyone worried about going because they may not be fit enough or overweight please please just GO!!!!!!!! Its fine, it doesnt matter what level of fitness you are because you can adjust the gears to suit your level. Its great fun/addictive and surely you are better going rather than sitting at home wondering about it.Its great I love my class.
