OMG (as the young people say) - I've just been shredded

When will I ever learn not to follow the MN trend setters? Seem to have lost the thread that recommended the 30 day shred but wanted to share my pain.

I've just finished the first run through of the DVD. I'm in need of a bath to help stop the shaking, a glass of wine to ease the stress and emergency chocolate.

Thanks to whoever it was that pointed out the Davina weights in Argos, and not so many thank yous to whoever it was that said 2Kg weights were the best. Started off with Davinas 1.5 ones - after 20 seconds moved down to the .68 ones (and my arms are still recovering!).

I'm hoping that someone will come along and tell me to keep with the programme - are the results worth the pain?

Ha ha I've just done day one too. I don't feel as bad as you, but a little lie down may be in order. Well done. I'm all pleased with myself. Keep with the programme girl the results will be worth it!! Grin Grin Grin

orangina · 18/01/2011 20:28

I have done it not very consistently for about a week now (ie, about 7-8 times over about two weeks), and I felt exactly like you after the first time. I felt sick, my legs were trembling, I couldn't move for days afterwards......

But it does get better. When I did it about 4 days in a row, I started to notice in the texture of my tummy (sorry, tmi maybe, but it does have a certain, ahem, blamanche quality to it.... ugugugugugug.....), and my trousers felt marginally looser. I have been tied up w coursework over the past 4-5 days, and wish I could just find the time to do it every evening, as I think it is quite good, it doesn't take long, and while I don't actually enjoy doing it, I do feel as though it is going to do some good.

Haven't started to do the exercises like Natalie yet though (!!!), or moved up to level 2. I am a chicken and need to manage to do at least a few press ups (the worst bit about the whole thing) before I move up....

Stick with it! Am hoping others will come along soon and be all gung ho and supportive about it too, and perhaps shame me into starting again.....

(peers back into essay due in 36 hours)

loler · 18/01/2011 20:40

I'd use it as work avoidance for an essay (hate essays!)

Natalie's legs are like tree trunks - so much muscle!

DH is away for a week - so if I keep this up, by the time he gets back my jelly belly will be a six pack then? Or at least like tough jelly?

Also hate the push ups - I've never ever been able to do them.

Ok who would like to explain this shredding to me Grin

loler · 18/01/2011 21:30

complete agony in a handy plastic box

loler · 20/01/2011 15:28

Right - just done day 3 and it's getting harded. My calves are burning when doing the butt kicks and jump rope - Some one please tell me that they will stop burning tomorrow!

SingingSands · 20/01/2011 15:35

I have also joined the shreddies cult! Today is day 9 and I've not missed a day. I use the davina 0.68 weights too and have no intention of increasing them, I want to be toned, not look like Arnie!

I promise it does get easier, not "easy". I am on level 1 and don't intend to go up a level for at least a month!

My motivation is that I am going to 3 family weddings this year. When I'm grunting my way through the side leg lunges I focus on looking kick-ass in my gorgeous new dress!

Oh, unexpected bonus of push ups - improved boobage! Chest has definately been lifted!

Keep going! Don't phone it in!

loler · 20/01/2011 16:42

lol - at phoning anything in!!

Thanks - looking forward to tomorrow Hmm

Oh!Just did day one this morning. Am hoping to have the self discipline to do the 30 days straight through but I am not hopeful...

Felt a bit jellylegs immediately after but I am now feeling better. I did some extra stretching but nervous about waking up stiff tomorrow and still having to continue.

Will have to keep muttering "namechanging to Taughttummy, namechanging to Taughttummy" Wink

HeavenForfend · 21/01/2011 15:41

I'm on day 14 and I'm wearing a short-sleeved top that used to dig into my bingo wings in perfect comfort today Grin.

I had to take a day off after day one though - I was absolutely immobile Shock. If you keep going, it does get much better, honest. I'm even contemplating (gulp) Level 2.

DuplicitousBitch · 21/01/2011 15:48

is it possible to do this in a flat or will i end up on my downstairs neighbours dining table?

orangina · 21/01/2011 20:38

I do it in my flat, but I am following Natalie, not Anita....

(low impact)

YouMakeMeWannaLaLa · 22/01/2011 10:10

Don't hate me, but I've just managed 40 days straight and I promise that if you keep going, you will see results!

I was really unfit (and am still a bit overweight) when I started and felt like throwing up a few times at the beginning but it got addictive and I now have a faint ab outline, rock hard bingo wings and tighter thighs.

And don't be scared about moving up levels, I felt they were all as hard as each other, but in different ways. After my 30 days were up and I had done 10 days of level 3 I went back to level one and found it hard all over again! You sort of get used to each level.

Keep going..."you want results?, they're not coming for free!" Grin

seanbonbon · 22/01/2011 10:26

I am on day 15 and moved up to level 2 on day 12.
After my first day of level 1 I couldn't walk down the stairs because my calves were so tight- fell down three steps, bruising my tailbone so I had to rest off for two daysBlush.
But it does get easier and although I find level 2 hard it's nowhere near as hard as that first day.

Don't know what it is about Jillian but she's so good at motivating me to keep going.
The part in level 2 (jumprope) when she says "I want you flooaating off the ground right now!" I really do jump higher!!(like positive reinforcement for kids)

I've never ever been sporty but had to do something about my weight/fitness and this works for me.
I can see a difference already and that spurs me on to keep going Smile

JelliBelli · 22/01/2011 13:53

I was a bit stiff today but nothing too bad and I managed day two - hurrah - it seemed to go quicker than yesterday too. I hate the press-ups, even the girlie knee ones. They are deffo my worst bit.

I am only using soup tin weights (0.5kg?) so I am thinking about what to use for a bit heavier before maybe moving to my lightest proper weights of 1.5kg. They would kill me just now.

Do you all have proper weights?

Youmakeme thats inspiring Grin and Seanbonbon do you mean you can actually see change in the mirror already?

I meant to take photos but I have lost mislaid the camera. I guess I should do the measurements too - just to have encouragement further down the line.

YouMakeMeWannaLaLa · 22/01/2011 22:36

Weights...

I used soup tins at first then I filled empty drink two litre bottles with water, working my way up daily until they weighed 2kg. They aren't as easy to grip as conventional weights but they are "free" and allowed me to build up to 2kg gradually. I still use these; I squish the bottle so they are more'grippable'.

Keep going...don't phone it in...

loler · 26/01/2011 20:57

I'm afraid that a terrible hangover and waking dc 'made me' phone it in of 3 days - so now on day 5 of level 1. It has got better today and was very nice to do jumprope without burning calves from the previous day! was also nice to be able to run up and down stairs over the weekend!

Someone pointed out the Davina weights are reduced in argos at the moment - I've found them really good (there are 3 types in the set) - today I used the medium ones for the first time (and can feel it!).

I two weeks I hope to have rock hard bingo wings - I can but dream!

OP posts:
orangina · 27/01/2011 11:49

I absolutely CANNOT do the press ups. Which I find quite depressing. Even the moderated easy ones.

(I am only talking about Level 1 here, am too much of a chicken to even LOOK at the other levels).

Slightly hate doing it, but need to address fitness issues (plus spare tyre and extra bingo wingage and that horrible fat that sticks to your back.... uuurrrggghhhhhhhhh).

Have been at it since the weekend again every day. Feeling a bit rubbish today (cold) but will attempt to make myself do it this evening.

Please keep the motivating stories coming, they are so helpful!

JelliBelli · 27/01/2011 15:14

I did Day 7 this morning. I am definitely noticing a difference in my endurance like Jillian says I should Grin. For some things I am working with Natalie, some with Jillian but none with Anita now. Hurrah!

My upper arms are definitely harder, they still dwell under a blanket of fat, but they are better. I can see and feel more shape coming under my ribs. Its enough to make me stick with it at the moment.

I still don't like the first circuit for strength and cardio though. I am pleased when those first 5 minutes are done.

Oringina I can't do the press up propoerly either, BUT I can do them deeper than I was AND my shoulders don't kill in the same way as they did. Stick with and don't phone it in.

bigTillyMint · 27/01/2011 15:16

Have ordered the DVD, but no weights. Could I use baked beans tins? Grin

JelliBelli · 27/01/2011 15:21

bigTillyMint I did, well soup tins but much the same i think. Some have used water bottles too, which have the added bonus of just topping up a little more when you're ready.

I have just done day 7 and for some things I use my soup tins but for some I used my 1.5kg weights.

Dive straight it when it comes and you'll get the results quicker. But, be warned, it is difficult the first few days, everyone I've read has said the same, it's not just you. But don't let it put you off as you soon get past it.

Keep posting for inspiration

bigTillyMint · 27/01/2011 15:22

Great!

No excuses for me then!

JelliBelli · 27/01/2011 15:27

No, no excuses for you Grin.

We just need to check up on Oringina to make sure she hasn't phoned it in today. She knows it'll just take 20 minutes and she'll be really pleased with herself that she stuck with it....

(Apologies for bully tactic Oringe, but you know you need want to really.....

loler · 27/01/2011 16:08

I'm going to Centre parcs for the weekend and deciding if I should pack light and phone it in or not! My DS1 loves joining in with me so could be a family thing to do together (hes having a moan about still being on level 1 but my tummy muscles and energy levels aren't as good as his - oh to be 5 again!)

OP posts:
JelliBelli · 27/01/2011 17:45

Loler don't phone it in over the weekend, take it with you Smile
