Hi,

Longtime lurker and poster (under various nn) on Westminstenders and these threads.

I'm afraid the other thread op pissed me off a lot so here's another option for those of us that want one.

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and good luck for 2022.

I want everyone here to feel safe and reassured that Priti is on it and we can rest easy now that she said has said that she has “much more to do” this year, including cracking down on eco protesters on the country’s roads. Phew. Those eco protesters are absolutely ruining this country.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/dec/31/boris-johnson-crowns-pint-glasses-key-brexit-success

Johnson also highlighted reviews of the regulatory regimes around artificial intelligence, self-driving vehicles, data rights, genetically modified food and medical devices as areas where the UK could deviate from the EU.

“The job isn’t finished and we must keep up the momentum. In the year ahead my government will go further and faster to deliver on the promise of Brexit and take advantage of the enormous potential that our new freedoms bring,” he said.

Keep yer eye on the small print.

Johnson talks about all of this as if it's a promise. It's a serious threat.

Why not bring back biblical measures?

Ah, but those are foreign lands and therefore foreign measures.

Peregrina · 02/01/2022 09:31

It seems that this hostility is backfiring on the likes of Patel and Farage.

But note that this is a Brexit Bonus - a more than three fold increase in people arriving in small boats has happened because outside the EU and the Dublin Convention those making landfall in the UK can no longer be returned to other EU countries.

By all means try to stop people smugglers. You know what though Ms Patel, having legal routes of entry would be one way to do this.

Peregrina · 02/01/2022 09:59

Pessimism about UK. Will it start to break up soon?

Not mentioned here but I think there are elections due in NI this year, and how well Sinn Fein do there will be significant, I believe.

No sniggering at the back:

www.thelondoneconomic.com/news/mail-online-readers-react-as-ministers-set-out-plans-to-ease-immigration-restrictions-for-indian-citizens-306709/

Mail Online readers have been startled by news that immigration restrictions could be eased for Indian citizens as part of trade talks due to commence later this month.

International trade secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan is understood to be ready to offer “generous” visa schemes to citizens in the country as representatives from both countries get primed to thrash out a deal.

@prettybird

I would go into an "imperial measures" butcher and make a point of asking for, say, 300g or 700g of mince Hmm. Deliberately choosing amounts that don't have a close imperial equivalent Wink And insist that I want no more and no less than that amount Grin .... and if they said they couldn't serve me in grams, I'd leave Grin
Would it be worth asking for a pound of something and then attempt to pay for it in old money, Im sure you could pick some up off ebay and remember to only pay how much it was worth in 1971 Smile
DrBlackbird · 02/01/2022 15:39

Jesus.

Johnson also highlighted reviews of the regulatory regimes around artificial intelligence, self-driving vehicles, data rights, genetically modified food and medical devices as areas where the UK could deviate from the EU

The likes of NSO Group and Palantir are going to love that. It’s because Johnson et al know (thanks to the 2016 referendum and 2019 election experiments) that the means to exert greater control over the uk public is, like China, by having more detailed surveillance information about us. Whereas the EU has taken more steps to protect the data subject. Absolutely chilling. Johnson is so frigging ruthless, power hungry and authoritarian minded

[quote FrankieStein403]Why TF is the Grauniad of all places reporting that as fact, when pretty much all of it is complete and utter bullshit?

Would you prefer the Express version?

The 'Express Graham Norton article was more truthful.

Quite entertaining to read the comments on the daily mail article!

You can have an election in 2024. You can't have another vote just because you don't like how things have turned out so far. The brexiteers told us that.

mathanxiety · 02/01/2022 20:57

All that data Johnson is keen on deregulating can also be monetised.

Opal8 · 02/01/2022 21:13

I got into an fb convo with a ukipper and leave voter in 2018 (who has got an Irish
Passport btw...)

I pointed out that all the EU Dr's/care staff/dentists/veg and fruit pickers etc would need replacing and that those replacements would come from the commonwealth/South East Asia which I felt lots of leave and ukip voters would feel unhappy about bearing in mind the ukip manifesto and party advertisements.

He was ADAMANT that was EXACTLY what he wanted by voting ukip and leave!

The comments under that DM article are not surprising to any on this thread, I'm sure, and are certainly a more accurate reflection of leave voters views.

Covid has - frankly - been a gift for brexshitters. Every brexshit related issue and problem will be blamed on covid.

And, if the coronavirus board on mn is anything to go by, people will lap it up.

🤷‍♀️

I wonder what the % of leave voters (the 52% of the 37% who voted...) have since died, especially since March 2020?

I think that could be an interesting data set coming up to the next GE. It won't be 2024 either. The tories will fuck this country up then walk off jauntily humming like that bastard Cameron.

So I predict GE at end of this year or early 2023.

Then fuck only knows

I try to avoid Daily Heil links, but felt in this case I just had to see what the Brexiters thought about a deal with India.

HannibalHeyes · 02/01/2022 21:48

Oh, we had one on these threads who was adamant that they only voted to leave because it was so unfair that all those white European people could come over and work rather than those of a, shall we say, duskier hue. Bullshit

And, obviously, not even representative.

But note how they have updated the rules on Children of critical workers and vulnerable children who can access schools or educational settings only today. I.e. they are getting ready for a lockdown to cover the inevitable impacts of the new self-imposed customs regulations in order to blame it all on Covid...

prettybird · 02/01/2022 22:04

This is a good critique of the supposed Brexit benefits that the Telegraph claimed Wink It covers tariffs as well as GDPR - so all the things that we have been pointing out Grin

Peregrina · 02/01/2022 22:16

Hannibal - yes, I remember that too - the objection was to white European Christians, as I recall. Not that we had to leave the EU to allow those of other religions and skin colours in - we (Govts) chose not to. But now they are changing their tune, oh dear.

Peregrina · 02/01/2022 22:18

I get a message saying that the video isn't available any more. Is that because there are no Brexit benefits?

prettybird · 02/01/2022 22:37

Trying again: managed to find it direct on YouTube rather than via Facebook where I first saw it.

Peregrina · 03/01/2022 10:11

That's very good. Why am I not surprised that there is no mention of the £350 million a week for the NHS. Why have we not heard more about the happy British fish being caught by British votes - and I could go on.

When are these fools going to wake up?

This is fraud

Yes but dear Daniel really isn't very bright so may well have needed Polish lessons.

He can't read.
We know this because he did not know that the road he lives on was to be shut one Sunday for a running race, despite it being in the local newspaper, flyers through his door and signs around town. So he had to abuse a volunteer marshal.

That or he is so infrequently in his constituency he was the only person who did not know about it.

DuncinToffee · 03/01/2022 12:14

Ah I see, poor Daniel

And poor Liz for having no other choice but to host a £1.4K lunch in Mayfair because of short notice. A club owned by Goldsmith's half brother Birley, a UKIP donor and donor to Johnson’s Leadership challenge, negotiated by Patel and Farage.

But per emails, she "refused to consider anywhere else" and "explicitly" rejected alternatives
