So Grant Shapps' solution to the shortage of lorry drivers is to allow them to drive longer hours.

Leading to more accidents and deaths on the UK's roads. But Brexit is Job Done and all is well - isn't it?

Thought I'd just put this here - the rank hypocrisy of it all.

I guess we are going to be hearing more like this ☹️

pointythings · 19/07/2021 09:21

Tanks for posting that, didn't get round to it. Yes, there will be a lot more like this. Windrush II - job done.

OP posts:
Peregrina · 19/07/2021 09:36

I was about to post that too. I trust the Brexiters are happy to see people who have lived virtually no where else, and have worked here for years either driven out or driven to destitution.

pointythings · 19/07/2021 10:23

The Brexiters will bleat 'but she should have applied sooner' (She doesn't have any kind of passport), 'she should have naturalised (See passport situation above and anyway, why should she, also cost). The bottom line is she is foreign and they don't give a shit because hey, it's job done.

OP posts:
HarrietPierce · 19/07/2021 10:37

Job done for the Brexiteers and Job loss for the under funded, under staffed care sector.

yellowspanner · 19/07/2021 10:48

Yes, she should have applied earlier.

pointythings · 19/07/2021 10:55

Bingo! Compassion and empathy from a True Brexiteer.

@yellowspanner

Yes, she should have applied earlier.
If you read the article, oh compassionate one, you’ll see that she tried to, but didn’t know how without a passport and couldn’t afford legal advice Sad
yellowspanner · 19/07/2021 11:34

She tried earlier but only by a few days before the deadline. But it's exactly what I would expect from the Guardian.
Bingo indeed.

FrankieStein402 · 19/07/2021 13:52

I would hope that yellowspanner withdraws that comment, after reading the article it is an extraordinary callous statement.

Peregrina · 19/07/2021 14:51

I would hope that yellowspanner leaves the post, so that we can see exactly what the Brexiters' "I'm all right jack" means in practice.

Boris Johnson, being a wholly selfish man has already made inroads into the list of Brexiters, that he is happy to betray. He won't stop until he's destroyed them all, and then who will Brexiters have to complain to?

Yes, they will whinge 'the EU is bullying us' but the longer that goes on, the less traction it has. (Compared with 'What about Corbyn?' Well, what about him. This Government has had two years to start to sort things out....)

Sorry but a dead line is a deadline, she applied before that date, thats all that matters, she received confirmation of her application.

The latest 'fleece the forrins' wheeze from our oh so lovely and morally upstanding government: www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/jul/19/ministers-under-fire-over-69p-minute-helpline-eu-citizens

How anyone can defend this is beyond me.

An, er, illuminating list of reasons the Home Office have refused asylum requests...

DrBlackbird · 19/07/2021 19:36

I thought these two articles were interesting from that rag as one TrueBeLeaver called it...

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/jul/19/right-winning-culture-war

And

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jul/19/joe-biden-republicans-polarization-us-politics-texas

What republican controlled States in the US are rushing to do is the stuff of dystopian nightmares. Yet our very own set of Tory/Republicans look across the pond for inspiration and policy ideas with a similar purpose of securing power at all cost. Fanning the flames of culture wars is one tactic.

We've also seen some of this influence such as a virulent anti-immigrant stance but Brexit was never about xenophobia and suppression of citizens protest and gerrymandering and planting hard core allies in key positions ...

What other republican ideas can we look forward to being introduced here next do you suppose?

Jason118 · 19/07/2021 19:48

The right are seeing the writing on the wall for the next generation - they will use any means at their disposal to continue to run things for their own benefit.

Menomadness · 19/07/2021 19:55

Just watching the nationality and borders bill being debated. Aka let's make people smugglers out of everybody seeking asylum. 🙄

Menomadness · 19/07/2021 20:04

Also re shopping. I think I said my local Lidl was really struggling. I went in today ( I haven't bothered lately as I then need to go elsewhere as they are so short on stock. )
I spoke to the young lad serving me and he said there aren't any drivers or pickers and although they get a delivery every day they don't know what they are getting.
The grocer ( I think) had an article on lidl saying hauliers are kind of boycotting Lidl as they ( Lidl) aren't understanding of the current restrictions hauliers are facing ( caused by Brexit I believe Wink and not COVID)
I need to add ££ to my bill to go to my next nearest supermarket. I don't have that many spare ones!

DrBlackbird · 19/07/2021 21:37

Apparently there's a national shortage of... dog poo bags. In baking hot heat... that's an unpleasant thought smell 🤢

The upside of that Is maybe the trees will escape from the sport of dog bag flinging Grin

maybe the trees will escape from the sport of dog bag flinging Grin

True! A weird and slightly sinister pastime for some dog owners!

DrBlackbird · 19/07/2021 22:19

IMO, Dom should be nervous about dark alleys...
