So Grant Shapps' solution to the shortage of lorry drivers is to allow them to drive longer hours.

Leading to more accidents and deaths on the UK's roads. But Brexit is Job Done and all is well - isn't it?

Looks like it's all going to shit under the Tories.

Honestly, who could have predicted that a lying, self serving pudding sacked from multiple jobs would destroy the country?!

TheElementsSong · 21/09/2021 10:45

But as long as selected individuals can afford the increased prices and experience no inconvenience at their local artisanal grocer, everything is fiiiiiiiiiiinneeeee.

DoubleTweenQueen · 21/09/2021 10:48

So, getting to grips with the root of the current crisis, we left the buffered wholesale energy market of the massive and influential EU, so are now subject to the volatility of energy prices now on our own, so manufacturing that relies on natural gas directly plus all the industries that rely on it indirectly are now at risk -.and 60% of our CO2 requirements are dependent on one US CEO, who we are now in crisis talks with and will likely have to subsidise by a few billion to keep our food production going - and all part of the 'unforseen' consequences of Brexit?

Is that the gist of it?

prettybird · 21/09/2021 11:29

....and we'll be able to heat our houses if we can afford it Hmm

Fuel poverty on steroids Sad The gift that keeps on giving Angry

I had to smile when KK explicitly promised there would be no 3-day week yesterday, and see the odds dropping with each word.
QueenOfThorns · 21/09/2021 12:39

And what really boils my piss about the whole thing is that people will still vote for these corrupt, lying, self-serving, evil shits Angry

Well they were warned. Turns out that Project Fear was actually Project Overoptimistic. The entitled fuckers are smashing up our country cheered on by the mob it would seem.

But, of course, the wonderful BBC is holding the corrupt government to account.

Oh, wait a minute...

vera99 · 21/09/2021 14:48

BBC is the worst thing now - so scared shitless by endless Toy wins and the Brexit mob they have capitulated. Sky News is much better, Beth Rigby gave Johnson a good earwigging over in the US just now. Laura Kuensberg, what a twat- probably shagged him at some point the way she acts.

I have zero doubt she's a Boris Booty Call and has been for a while.

Beth Rigby on twitter

NEW: In our @skynews interview with PM jn NYC, he repeatedly refused to guarantee a UK/US trade deal by 2024 (which would be 4 years after he got Brexit done) despite saying in 2017 UK was front of the queue. “We’re gonna, gonna go as fast as we can”

He also said it was better to wait for a great deal than rush into a bad one to a chorus of fuck all from the BBC.

This is big we really are in a House of Cards soaked in petrol ruled by a drunken arsonist but hey he's not Corbyn.

Peregrina · 21/09/2021 20:48

David Allen Green's take on the Johnson no deal with the USA.

Yes, Johnson's statement sounds good, but since his Government have been rushing into any old deal as long as we stick it to the EU, I think DAG is correct - no deal because he can't get one.

vera99 · 21/09/2021 20:57

Good comment below the article
....
It’s ironic also because the proponents of Brexit never stopped telling us that countries would be falling over themselves to give us wonderful deals once we’d escaped from the baleful influence of the EU. But now the realisation has sunk in that the only kind of deal currently likely to be offered by the US would be terrible for us. So the new policy is to kick the can down the road and hope that, by some miracle, a future US administration will decide to be generous to us at their own expense. Fat chance.

Peregrina · 21/09/2021 21:15

Another comment I saw somewhere - we were told that when we were in the EU, our problems were all caused by the EU. Now we are out of the EU our problems are global ones and everyone is suffering.

Funny that.

vera99 · 21/09/2021 21:20

It's turned out nice again !

The graphic attached shows the day ahead electricity prices across Europe on 19th September (from this article), it shows how much higher prices are in the UK in comparison with other European countries.

This article suggests some of the high prices are due lower winds, amongst other things.

Low wind in GB usually means low wind in the interconnected countries, so we may find the interconnectors are not able to back up the system in these periods as we’ve already seen

It's hard to see to how much of the impact is from the interconnector fire. I'd expect the European day ahead prices to be higher if the lower generation from wind power is a big issue for them, although you would need to know the ratios for their elecricity generation. Ours are much higher than the rest of Europe, it would be good to see a breakdown of all the factors.

DoubleTweenQueen · 21/09/2021 23:40

I think they are experiencing similar pricing issues in the EU, but Norway has agreed to up it’s gas supply to EU to help alleviate, and the issues are not quite as stark as here, plus France has greater reliance on nuclear power for electricity. They will weather the storm together, as a large powerful block.

We’re out on our own.

mathanxiety · 22/09/2021 05:28

I believe the Nordstream2 connection has finally been completed too, with a hope of LNG being pumped as winter sets in. It's a controversial tie to Russia from a geopolitical standpoint of course, but the delivery of LNG from Russia is theoretically possible.

vera99 · 22/09/2021 07:47

I was 8 when the 3 day week and the power cuts came. It was fun warming ourselves on the coal for listening to the radio by candlelight. If we have a very cold windless winter then it would appear we're stuffed. Given that these malevolent clowns are in charge can I have any hope there is a plan and a plan that works. I think the British people have had enough of slogans.

Her you are Boris - some tips for your next broadcast.

Peregrina · 22/09/2021 08:46

Just imagine if a Labour Government were to do this. The Press would be screaming about them. But no, with the Tories, a nice little bung to a US firm should sort it out.
