So Grant Shapps' solution to the shortage of lorry drivers is to allow them to drive longer hours.

Leading to more accidents and deaths on the UK's roads. But Brexit is Job Done and all is well - isn't it?

Do you remember when Johnson and Gove promised that leaving the EU would result in lower gas bills?

They will both be hoping that you have forgotten.

vera99 · 20/09/2021 09:52

The pile on in the AIBU thread was something else - but it topped out at a 1000 posts and doesn't seem to be a new one sadly. Not a mention of the B word in the Brexitetrs friend the Excess.

Peregrina · 20/09/2021 10:25

Which thread was that?
There is one about shelves being empty but that has only gone to 500 or so posts

prettybird · 20/09/2021 10:28

Nothing whatsoever to with Brexit, oh no, nothing at all. Hmm It's just Covid recovery and Gulliver's giant straining to get up again Confused

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/boris-johnson-warns-supermarket-shelves-25023483

Funny how the rest of Europe, while it might be enduring higher energy prices, is not experiencing significant shortages in CO2, concerns about abattoirs, supermarket supplies or warning that there might will be problems at Christmas Angry

People, people, you just don't get it - all Bad Things are Not Due To Brexit, whereas all Good Things are Due To Brexit. Also, look over there at some 🐿🐿🐿 Grin

vera99 · 20/09/2021 10:52

The vote went 60 40 in favouring despising those that voted Brexit and started a ding dong about how important fizzy water was amongst other stuff in the scheme of things. A few did hit and runs you lost get over it type of stuff. Then racists, thick etc - the usual.

Peregrina · 20/09/2021 12:50

Is that right that 60% did despise those who voted for Brexit?

If so that result is 'overwhelming' because we know that 52% is overwhelming.

vera99 · 20/09/2021 13:03

Something like 61 - 39 for despising those Brexit voters. As I respect the vote it means that only 39% of me doesn't despise Clav.

Peregrina · 20/09/2021 13:26

I don't especially despise those who initially voted for Brexit - many of them would have expected us to go for an EEA type arrangement - remember 'No one is talking of leaving the Single Market' according to Daniel Hannan.

I have no time for those who voted for Johnson, knowing that the man is a lazy liar and cheat. They have got exactly what they should have expected.

AdaHopper · 20/09/2021 14:09

Headline in the news in my EU country: people will need a passport to visit the UK from the 1st of october.

This may seem like a 'so what?' From a UK perspective where there are no national ID cards. Most EU countries do have an ID card system which every adult has to have and can be used to travel within the EU (+ other FOM countries like Switzerland and Norway).

Passports are per request only and expensive so many people don't have one.

I bet this is going to be a big hit to the tourist industry.

vera99 · 20/09/2021 15:34

In our bare bones oven-ready Brexit deal we elected to be outside of the EU Internal Energy Market and now have the highest energy prices in Europe. Everything Johnson touches turns to shit. Go Brexit Go...

westenglandbylines.co.uk/energy-prices-rise-after-uk-leaves-eu-energy-markets/

prettybird · 20/09/2021 18:09

Methinks that Kwasi Kwarteng somewhat misses the point probably deliberately Hmm, when he reassures "us" that the lights won't go out this winter Confused

It's not that there is a concern about energy not being available; it's that the high prices will have major consequences, both direct and indirect for both consumers and industry Sad

Leaving the EU Internal Energy market has exposed the UK to much more market volatility.

As ever, this Government of nincompoops has not put in place proper plans to mitigate this Angry

No chance lights will go out, says government https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-58620167

Peregrina · 20/09/2021 19:50

All of the Cabinet seem to miss the point. It was like the Kent Tory MP, whose name I forget, waffled on about the farmer with the massive greenhouse full of tomatoes turning to pulp because there are no pickers, and wanted a Covid visa to be introduced. Boris Johnson in turn replied that people should be encourage to buy British. Yep, that's easy if the British fruit and veg aren't in the shops because they are rotting for want of picking.

You do have to wonder what their expensive educations taught them.

HappyWinter · 20/09/2021 20:52

Leaving the EU Internal Energy market has exposed the UK to much more market volatility.

Head of Ecotricity briefly talks about this at the end of this clip of BBC news interview, it's not helped by the interconnector catching fire in Kent

Saw this on Twitter today :

The irony of saying that brexit is like turkeys voting for Christmas is getting better and better.

  1. Nobody to kill the turkey
  2. Nobody to pack the turkey
  3. Nobody to drive the turkey
  4. No CO2 to store the turkey
  5. No gas to cook the bloody turkey.
prettybird · 20/09/2021 23:08

I'm going to be buying a couple of legs (or shoulders) of lamb when I can find a good deal Wink and freezing them, so that I have a back up for Christmas. Shock

SwedishEdith · 20/09/2021 23:18

Apparently Johnson said this today. About climate change this time but...

Westminstenders: Tachographs and Empty Shelves
HannibalHayeski · 20/09/2021 23:27

No, de Spaffle, facts don't change.

And, apparently, he was taking climate advice from fucking Piers Corbyn!

prettybird · 20/09/2021 23:54

People can change their minds - but they need to admit and recognise that they were wrong before.

My dad was brought up believing in apartheid. He changed - and we left SA.

People used to believe that the world was flat. They were wrong Wink The fact that the world is indeed a sphere didn't change Grin

250 Afghan interpreters details shared on email.

Despite the Keystone Cops stories about the Taliban these past few days, I have no doubt they are in a position to use threats against those in Afghanistan to try to leverage those outside to do their bidding.

borntobequiet · 21/09/2021 09:20

You do have to wonder what their expensive educations taught them.

How to get ahead at the expense of everyone else. If it was just about education, people wouldn’t pay the eye-watering prices. Most people got a terrific education at the high school I taught in, and went on to do a huge variety of things afterwards, including in some very highly regarded professions.

borntobequiet · 21/09/2021 09:22

Looks like we might have to nationalise the fertiliser industry in order to maintain CO2 supplies, doesn’t it? I look forward to hearing Rees Mogg intoning in favour of it.
