Good King BBBBaBoris looked out,
on the Port of Dover,
There the shit lay round about,
Deep around the stopover;
Brightly shone the moon that night,
Tho’ the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight,
Delivering stuff for Yule.

“Bugger SAGE and stand by me,
We've all stuff that needs selling,
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?”
“Sire, he lives a good league hence,
The other side the EU;
Though relations maybe tense,
He's trying to get goods through.”

“Oh god I need another wine,
I have many crisis to consider:
We must tell them its all fine,
I must not be seen to dither.”
SAGE and monarch, forth they went,
forth they went together;
Through the nation's sad lament
and really crappy weather.

“Sire, our plight is darker now,
And the covid transmission stronger;
Fails my heart, I know not how;
To keep Tier 2 much longer.”
“Soon we can drop their wage.
And treat them all more coldly
In Britain's new chrony age
A time to rob more boldly.”

In their master’s steps they trod,
On the quest to get minted;
Each and every last sod
Needs to be fingerprinted.
Therefore, Christian men, be sure,
DWP claimants are processing,
Ye who now will bless the poor,
God its all so depressing.

Well, I survived 2020 (give or take a week)
Things going about as well as I predicted...
Hope everyone is staying safe

Tier 3 here, since what feels like the dawn of time.

I'm not trying to run a business or educate/ entertain ankle biters, and I am not a gregarious person so to all intents it hasn't impacted on my life very much. I actually rather enjoy it and permanently w f h has been nothing short of life changing.

Still shocked that so many round here seem still not to get it, or not care. Proposals for community singing, door to door carols and a street party (!!!!) have all arrived in my inbox in the last fortnight.

squid4 · 23/12/2020 18:55

The hospital has calmed down in my part of the north - have never seen and hope I never see again the sort of scenes we were having in mid november, unfortunately I think they'll be back for Jan

In the meantime I've got a few days off, no one visiting us and we're going nowhere, and a shit load of food in. Bunker mode for a few days at least!

Thanks again for this thread, still one of the most informative things on brexit around

squid4 · 23/12/2020 18:57

No vaccines at my hospital yet.

Words · 23/12/2020 18:58

Well done Squid. Enjoy your break. Can't think of anyone more deserving. ThanksWineCake

Is talk of a Deal to hide the shit show which is happening in Kent?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 23/12/2020 19:04

PMK.
Sadly I don't have a cat to post pics of Sad

Tanith · 23/12/2020 19:04

@HesterThrale

Isn’t Tier 4 pretty much the same thing as lockdown anyway? What’s the reason they invented the phrase Tier 4, instead of just saying ‘back into lockdown’? I’m very cynical...
Childcare and schools still open in Tier 4 - for now. Childcare is the last sector that will close: if it does, you'll know things are really bad.
Sostenueto · 23/12/2020 19:05

From Tier 2 to Tier 4 here. Ffs!

ListeningQuietly · 23/12/2020 19:06

@squid4
Enjoy a bit of bunker time
you have earned it with tinsel on

Sostenueto · 23/12/2020 19:07

BBC saying main issues been resolved in Brexit negotiations. Yes riiiigghhhtt! Shit deal coming then all staged to deliver a deal on New Year's Eve. So people can chant Boris the Great Boris the Great!

tobee · 23/12/2020 19:09

I had a brilliant dream last night where I got to tell Boris Johnson, in person, just how shit he was. And to admit to it.

ListeningQuietly · 23/12/2020 19:09

A timely reminder that there are still BUCKET loads of compromises to reach

squid thank you and your colleagues so much for your sacrifices and your efforts. I will be forever indebted to you all. I'm sorry you're having to do this.

We're also in the situation that other than DH wfm, not much has changed. We're going in to T3 on 26th. I used to be a sahm but I've recently started work which involves supporting people. Staff wear PPE but our service users can't. We have weekly covid tests and despite me doing a total of 4 hours a week I still find it a bit scary (and a lot fabulously rewarding).

Kids still go to school (at the moment), guess I'll stop work if schools close. Luckily (?!) it's a 0 hours job so I can hopefully pick it up again in future...

I guess we had quite boring lives if not much changed! I mean, kids clubs etc and we did, and playdates, but we didn't eat out or anything like that.

Mistigri · 23/12/2020 19:09

There's definitely going to be a deal and it will look a lot like what the EU proposed originally with only relatively minor concessions.

As soon as chaos happened at Dover, deal moved from maybe 90% to 99.99% certain. It will probably take until New Year to sort out the current mess.

I am focused on presents, crochet and not killing the kids. A Brexit Deal has to cross a very low bar for me to be pleasantly surprised (e.g. exist), so I am fine, either way. Although it would be an added bonus if the ERG explode.

HannibalHayes · 23/12/2020 19:17

Ah, the deal...

Mistigri
Are your kids going to get back to you for the festive food?

My UK parent has decided to stay isolated until they get the vaccine.

My friend whose husband is in a hospice has just discovered that they are allowed Deliveroo to his bed which has made them both laugh.

The world is mad.
But it will be OK

The cats are beautiful Smile.

I have small children so tier 3 is not too bad as I spend an inordinate amount of time outside in freezing cold parks anyway and don't have much time to do fun inside activities like going to the pub. I do miss the other things but understand why we have to do it. The schools closing was the tough part for me. Anything where the schools open is ok. I think they may have to close again if the virus is out of control, that will be hard.

Thanks squid, it must be very hard working in the NHS this year.

HesterThrale · 23/12/2020 19:32

Thanks, you're right - I suppose the difference is between March and November lockdowns (schools only closed in March.) So Tier 4 more like November lockdown. But they don't want to call it that.

March seemed a proper lockdown. Keeping schools open in November probably stopped it being effective.

I'm sure schools won't fully re-open in January. Some sort of halfway house, with partial or part-time opening. Just so they can say 'schools are open', because it's been so important to them to be able to say that. (Even though it's obviously causing faster spread.)

boatyardblues · 23/12/2020 19:47

@TurquoiseBaubles

Sorry, I think I've just cracked.

I think I'll start a jigsaw. Either that or drink a crate of wine Hmm

I bought a jigsaw yesterday. I plan to do it whilst consuming a crate of wine.
