Good King BBBBaBoris looked out,
on the Port of Dover,
There the shit lay round about,
Deep around the stopover;
Brightly shone the moon that night,
Tho’ the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight,
Delivering stuff for Yule.

“Bugger SAGE and stand by me,
We've all stuff that needs selling,
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?”
“Sire, he lives a good league hence,
The other side the EU;
Though relations maybe tense,
He's trying to get goods through.”

“Oh god I need another wine,
I have many crisis to consider:
We must tell them its all fine,
I must not be seen to dither.”
SAGE and monarch, forth they went,
forth they went together;
Through the nation's sad lament
and really crappy weather.

“Sire, our plight is darker now,
And the covid transmission stronger;
Fails my heart, I know not how;
To keep Tier 2 much longer.”
“Soon we can drop their wage.
And treat them all more coldly
In Britain's new chrony age
A time to rob more boldly.”

In their master’s steps they trod,
On the quest to get minted;
Each and every last sod
Needs to be fingerprinted.
Therefore, Christian men, be sure,
DWP claimants are processing,
Ye who now will bless the poor,
God its all so depressing.

@StickWaver wrong thread or no, thanks!

So the government will have to explain why their deal is ruinous when they promised a better deal than the one we had.

I agree they’ll somehow manage to weasel out of that one. We are dealing with a nation that struggles with the concept of club membership having benefits that non-membership does not. Johnson is not wrong on the principle that enforced mushroomhood (aka circuses and as many breadcrumbs as I don’t want) is a valid method of governing: I just hate the undeserved inequality it causes.

Shrillharridan · 23/12/2020 20:03

squid enjoy your time off x
Still T3 here so no changes. Trying to focus on the kids/Xmas fun.

How dependent is the UK on the EU for food?www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55408788

ListeningQuietly · 23/12/2020 21:03

Schools HAVE to stay open
and if that involves every kid over 4 wearing a mask
they will understand

Food shops HAVE to have the right to enforce masks
and if that involves some people not being able to go in
so be it

As has been posted elsewhere, Spaniard and Italians and French ang Germans
have been grown up and realised that masks and restrictions are the way to go.

Countries led by idiots The UK , the USA, Brazil
have demanded the Freedom
to die

and at the same time the UK is learning that it was always Sovereign

ListeningQuietly · 23/12/2020 21:05

@durgha
THey are gorgeous.
Front one looks like my old one

I could go out the cat flap but you have to open the back door so I can NOT go out Wink

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 23/12/2020 21:08

Like I say, from my perspective here in Spain, I don't get why they don't just make everyone wear a mask, especially at school, when they are indoors in large groups, it's total madness.
All the bloody mask exemptions as well. Here everyone has to and that's that. There are exemptions but the vast majority of people wear them. The only unmasked people I've seen have been autistic children. There a couple of children with autism in our village and I see them without masks. But that's it really.

HappyWinter · 23/12/2020 21:14

Think someone may have posted it already? This is one of the Sikh charities who are helping the lorry drivers stuck in Dover. I've made it one of my Christmas donations, trying to teach my children about giving to others at Christmas.

TatianaBis · 23/12/2020 21:16

Don’t want to be demotivational slash depressing but a deal is only the least worst outcome.

Does anyone believe it will cover -

  • Frictionless trade
  • Financial services passporting
  • Equivalence rights for services - indeed any deal on services.
  • Access to Euratom, Europol, Eurojust, EIT, etc.
  • Access to Horizon 2020, Erasmus+, Galileo, Copernicus, etc.
  • Access to Schengen SIS II criminal databases, European Arrest Warrant, PNR etc

Without them we’re FKD.

TatianaBis · 23/12/2020 21:17

As soon as chaos happened at Dover, deal moved from maybe 90% to 99.99% certain. It will probably take until New Year to sort out the current mess.

Back of the net Macron, I salute you.

Yep I posted earlier, I’ve also donated.

TheHateIsNotGood · 23/12/2020 21:27

Good highlight HappyWinter - the welfare of the Trapped Drivers is paramount - place the blame later.

Did I say something really awful yesterday? I see I had a post deleted - quite rare for me really so I apologize if I really offended anyone - as whilst I might be a bit blunt, being truly offensive isn't part of my psyche.

Anyway I've done a bit of a NC - added The to my name - purely because I abbreviated my user name to HING and thought if I just added a T I could abbreviate to THING.

So I did.

Tanith · 23/12/2020 21:31

A friend posted on FB that some people, hoping to escape Tier 4 restrictions before it happens, have been arriving in Switzerland for ski-ing.
They were promptly put into isolation by the Swiss police, so all they've done is spend a small fortune to sit in a chalet room for the duration. Resorts are shut, so no ski-ing anyway.

ListeningQuietly · 23/12/2020 21:31

THING
you are right, that is rather cool

The drivers who have been bollocksed over this week are not thick
they will want more money to come back to the UK next month
or they will pick other routes

at present over 80% of artics on the UK roads are pulled by EU units

if those guys stay away in January
the UK is nadgered
even if the trailers cross the channel unaccompanied

I have ALWAYS said that moving boxes
was the key to the problems of Brexit
and I am sadly being proved utterly right

HappyWinter · 23/12/2020 21:36

@TatianaBis Thank you, I thought so, small children have definitely affected my memory!

veeeeh · 23/12/2020 21:38

I like reading Tony Connelly. He is usually spot on and obviously has great sources.

So No Deal will become a deal? Very Fishy lol.

Anyway still gone is FOM and a lot of other things for exceptionalist UK. Wonder qui bono from the hopefully impending TD?

Peregrina · 23/12/2020 21:38

Ah yes. LQ but those EU drivers came over and stole all our jobs. So now it's time for HGV drivers to dust off their licences and reclaim them.

Now there might be an element of truth in the above statement that many employers would rather tap into a ready pool of already trained HGV drivers rather than stump up to train UK born folks.

ListeningQuietly · 23/12/2020 21:43

I have a massive, massive soft spot for the drivers I knew.
They were fun. It was an exciting time.
But its a shitty job. And nothing under £50k a year (2020) makes it really pay.
Supermarkets and subcontractors have driven down prices.
Romanians charge £24k
the price of every load will double ...

HannibalHayes · 23/12/2020 21:45

I'm really looking forward to seeing which other EU countries are looking at this and deciding to leave as well. Like all the Brexshittiers were telling us they would...

ArrowsOfMistletoe · 23/12/2020 21:48

I've donated too. Those poor drivers, stuck out there and in this shit weather too.

RedToothBrush · 23/12/2020 21:50

Just reading the latest on this. The M20 london bound has now been closed to accommodate trucks.

The authorities have now decided that actually they will test drivers already at the port already for some unknown reason. (why the fuck they did not do this from the word go i dont know).

However youve now got the archbishop of canterbury amongst others warning of a full on humanitarian crisis.

Members of the public have been going to Manston and giving the drivers food because the government are doing fuck all.

All in all situation sounds like its getting worse not better.

Ashford International Train station is apparently being used as a transit point for food and emergency supplies and medical tests between there and London
