Good King BBBBaBoris looked out,
on the Port of Dover,
There the shit lay round about,
Deep around the stopover;
Brightly shone the moon that night,
Tho’ the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight,
Delivering stuff for Yule.

“Bugger SAGE and stand by me,
We've all stuff that needs selling,
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?”
“Sire, he lives a good league hence,
The other side the EU;
Though relations maybe tense,
He's trying to get goods through.”

“Oh god I need another wine,
I have many crisis to consider:
We must tell them its all fine,
I must not be seen to dither.”
SAGE and monarch, forth they went,
forth they went together;
Through the nation's sad lament
and really crappy weather.

“Sire, our plight is darker now,
And the covid transmission stronger;
Fails my heart, I know not how;
To keep Tier 2 much longer.”
“Soon we can drop their wage.
And treat them all more coldly
In Britain's new chrony age
A time to rob more boldly.”

In their master’s steps they trod,
On the quest to get minted;
Each and every last sod
Needs to be fingerprinted.
Therefore, Christian men, be sure,
DWP claimants are processing,
Ye who now will bless the poor,
God its all so depressing.

Pmk. Good songs RTB.

DGRossetti · 23/12/2020 17:12

I have fuck all idea what Tier we are in. I have fuck all interest in finding out either.

(DW just shouted she agrees).

What's the point ? Not a goady question, but really, what is the point ?

Any hope enough people to make a difference would (a) care enough to find out and (b) care enough to follow the guidelines was pissed away the moment we all realised it was - as usual - them. And us.

A mutant new strain that might not respond to the vaccine ? Nobody could have seen that coming. Well, nobody that mattered.

TonMoulin · 23/12/2020 17:20

Actually I disagree there DRG

What we know is that tier 2 isn’t working. But tier 3 is. Rates are going down there and enough people are following the rules for it to work. Even where I live which is right at the border between tier 3 and tier 2 (I’m talking about 1 mile away).

Pubs and restaurants are clearly the main issue here.

Shrug.

Whatever.

I gave up caring back when it was obvious that it was every person for themselves. It's my job to ensure DW and I stay healthy and safe for each other and that is pretty much that. Luckily for the rest of the world that means staying as isolated as possible anyway. But sadly us two fossils waiting to die alone at home doesn't cancel out the thundercunts who treat superspreading as a personal challenge.

schimmelreiter · 23/12/2020 17:30

@DGRossettiDo you not think that Matt Hancock just uses exaggerating language, along with a lot of press/ posters, where things are tragic, concerning, we get 'plunged' into new Tiers, rather than having the regulations where we live changed. It is linguistically exhausting, but not related to actual facts. I won't believe the vaccine won't work on the new strain until I am told this in straightforward language by someone who is qualified to comment. I don't listen to politicians talking anymore, but I expect they are panicking and trying to make it sound as though they are doing something about a really big problem (not that there aren't really big problems they should be doing something about, but I don't think they really comprehend them, nor do they have the imagination to think of solutions that work, so they use exaggerating language and then claim to be looking after us/ being world beating etc.) Panicking because they can see how stupid they look, not because things are bad

I honestly don't pay a seconds attention to anything coming out of the cabinet. I just skim read enough to be able to enjoy the satire.

Life really is too short. And getting more so.

RedToothBrush · 23/12/2020 17:34

There is no difference between T3 and T4 for me in practical terms. Only difference would have been Christmas day relaxation but since im in the north its irrelevant.

T2 means i can visit friends in the back garden and freeze my tits off outside the pub.

T1 is a figment of my imagination that i dream about.

So i kind of get you DGR. If you aren't doing stuff anyway, it makes no difference until you get your vaccine.

ListeningQuietly · 23/12/2020 17:42

T3 would have let me carry on swimming.
so I am sad that we jump straight to T4

but its the eating and drinking out that is causing the problem
so that has to be stamped on
sadly

SabrinaThwaite · 23/12/2020 17:45

T4 here, pool closed but golf courses still open - yippee.

Except one of ours looks like the Somme at the moment.

But will they be willing to come ?

Whenwillow · 23/12/2020 18:05

Oh well that's big of the government to 'allow' EU citizens in when it suits them. A big part of me hopes they stick 2 fingers up at us.

Whenwillow · 23/12/2020 18:06

Misread - EU and non EU

DGRossetti · 23/12/2020 18:08

So i kind of get you DGR. If you aren't doing stuff anyway, it makes no difference until you get your vaccine.

As we say: Whatever.

StickWaver · 23/12/2020 18:16
came up with an excellent one.
StickWaver · 23/12/2020 18:16

Oops, wrong thread...

DrBlackbird · 23/12/2020 18:19

Massive difference for me between TIer 3 and 4... the former and the small business I'm involved in can continue to stay open and maybe, just maybe survive. Tier 4 and it closes so survival less likely. Means I am relieved to be staying Tier 3 (for now).

So the government will have to explain why their deal is ruinous when they promised a better deal than the one we had

A deal is better than no deal. Though agreed that many businesses will go under all the same/charge more/offer less etc.etc. Sadly, the gov't won't have to explain anything because the press will largely be happy to claim a deal was all due to Johnson's amazing negotiating skills. And no Brexiteer even thought or knew about wider issues such as financial passporting whilst only those living in Kent may feel the loss of frictionless trade. Once a deal is done, it may all just be swept under the Covid carpet.

TonMoulin · 23/12/2020 18:24

So i kind of get you DGR. If you aren't doing stuff anyway, it makes no difference until you get your vaccine.

At sort of game, I could also say that my life wasn’t that much different between now and before Covid thanks to ME/CFS so it doesn’t matter and we could all stay in tier 3 forever and ever.

That wouldn’t make sense though.

TonMoulin · 23/12/2020 18:27

Because the government has found two cases of the South Africa variant, they are not stopping movement of people with them. And expect people who have been there to be in quarantine.

I’m going to chose to ignore the irony of the situation and concentrate on the fact the government is finally acknowledging the need to control the movement of people until we have eradicated this virus

ListeningQuietly · 23/12/2020 18:33

I will believe that there is a deal when I see it on Legislation.Gov.UK
Until then its all hot air
trying to distract from the
corruption
incompetence
and viciousness
of this Government
and the swivel eyed loon Brexiters who got us into this mess

remember that the docks and warehouses are ONLY chocca BECAUSE OF BREXIT
My cupboards are not stuffed because of COVID
they are stuffed because I KNOW how fragile the Dover link is
TO BREXIT

TurquoiseBaubles · 23/12/2020 18:33

I'm going to put my tin foil hat on again and suggest that the new bollocks about a South African strain is to cover up for the complete cockup they made yesterday of announcing to the entire planet that there was a lethal mutant virus out of control in SE England Hmm.

There are loads and loads of different strains. The Europe (via Italy) strain was different from the original Wuhan strain. Unless and until the find they are (a) more lethal and (b) resistant to treatment and/or vaccine, who gives a fuck.

TurquoiseBaubles · 23/12/2020 18:35

Sorry, I think I've just cracked.

I think I'll start a jigsaw. Either that or drink a crate of wine Hmm

lonelyplanetmum · 23/12/2020 18:40

@Tanith

If we're posting cat photos, meet the kitten (who already knows how beautiful he is and which side is most photogenic!) ❤️
Well tired of Tiers but that cat photo. Much needed.
tobee · 23/12/2020 18:49

Is it just me that gets annoyed when Brexiteers and Brexity press go on indignantly about "fishing in our waters"? Do they not see the irony? "Our waters", or any countries "waters" are only so described because of some previous trade agreements with other countries. There's nothing intrinsically "ours" about however many square miles of sea that happen to lap the shores of this island.

HesterThrale · 23/12/2020 18:51

Isn’t Tier 4 pretty much the same thing as lockdown anyway? What’s the reason they invented the phrase Tier 4, instead of just saying ‘back into lockdown’?
I’m very cynical...

Peregrina · 23/12/2020 18:53

So the government will have to explain why their deal is ruinous when they promised a better deal than the one we had.

A normal Government would, or a Labour Government would definitely be held to account but this one will just lie their way out of it.
