Good King BBBBaBoris looked out,
on the Port of Dover,
There the shit lay round about,
Deep around the stopover;
Brightly shone the moon that night,
Tho’ the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight,
Delivering stuff for Yule.

“Bugger SAGE and stand by me,
We've all stuff that needs selling,
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?”
“Sire, he lives a good league hence,
The other side the EU;
Though relations maybe tense,
He's trying to get goods through.”

“Oh god I need another wine,
I have many crisis to consider:
We must tell them its all fine,
I must not be seen to dither.”
SAGE and monarch, forth they went,
forth they went together;
Through the nation's sad lament
and really crappy weather.

“Sire, our plight is darker now,
And the covid transmission stronger;
Fails my heart, I know not how;
To keep Tier 2 much longer.”
“Soon we can drop their wage.
And treat them all more coldly
In Britain's new chrony age
A time to rob more boldly.”

In their master’s steps they trod,
On the quest to get minted;
Each and every last sod
Needs to be fingerprinted.
Therefore, Christian men, be sure,
DWP claimants are processing,
Ye who now will bless the poor,
God its all so depressing.

Happy Christmas to all of you. I hope this shit deal at least keeps food and medicines flowing, not least for my friend's DD who has T1 diabetes.

bornatXmastobequiet · 25/12/2020 09:51

Happy Christmas all! It’s a beautiful cold frosty morning here - normally I’d be having breakfast with family after a long morning drive pretty much right across England. As it is, I’m lucky as I will have DD with me later, so won’t be on my own. But I put off wrapping presents until this morning - they only need to be under the tree for Zooming later - and it seems a strange and unusual way to spend Christmas morning! Might put some washing on as well...

Whenwillow · 25/12/2020 09:52

Merry Christmas everyone Xmas Smile
I wonder what next year will bring? I hope continued sanity and wit from you all here on Westminstenders 💐

Peregrina · 25/12/2020 10:56

Johnson is still being stupid.

The Empire is dead chum.

Peregrina · 25/12/2020 11:01

Yet at the same time he expects us to sink our differences:
The prime minister urged Brexiters and remainers to move on from the divisions that have plagued UK politics since the referendum. “My message to everybody on both sides of that argument in 2016 is I really think now it’s a long time behind us,” he said.

HappyWinter · 25/12/2020 11:23

That would be "spending time with his families". I think he may go now Brexit is done in his eyes.

The trade delays from the article above don't look great. I think he won't want to deal with any problems.

Happy Christmas to everyone and hope for a better year next year.

ArrowsOfMistletoe · 25/12/2020 11:28

It's so childish to go on about a race for success. As if the economy is a playground thing. But then I didn't expect anything better from BJ. We have lost so much.

dontcallmelen · 25/12/2020 11:48

Merry Christmas everyone, wish you all peace 🎄☃️ Xx

Looks like a fun thread.

Helocariad · 25/12/2020 12:59

Merry Christmas everyone. Will be spending the day reading, knitting and later on visiting 1 set of friends (Wales here). Relieved there's a deal even if it's far worse than the one we had.

Apparently students from NI can still participate in Erasmus. Which is very good news for them, obviously.

Shite for all other UK students though.
And if the government wanted a world-wide exchange scheme (the new Turing scheme) they could have developed one while we in the EU, and offered both.

Also, after what a previous UK government did to Alan Turing, they have a nerve appropriating his name Angry

RedToothBrush · 25/12/2020 15:56

Merry Christmas. I hope everyone is having a nice day even if its not what they would have chosen.

Keeping it real since 2016 - thanks all and merry Christmas

Fuck off with that.
ListeningQuietly · 25/12/2020 18:10

Merry Christmas all
its been a beautiful sunny day

Brexit is done
now we emulate the Brexiters and fight on
to get what is right for

  • the country
  • our children
  • the world

I CHOSE to become a European. I still am.

mrslaughan · 25/12/2020 18:17

Merry Christmas and best wishes to you all and your families!

ListeningQuietly · 25/12/2020 18:43

I've just spoken to my non UK parent.
Pray with every atheist cell in your body that the UK NEVER does a trade deal that involves taking on USA medical practices.
If I could get on a plane now to scream at the medic to reduced my parent to so much pain
that they are self admitting to hospital on Christmas day, I would.

the UK NHS may be underfunded
but it is largely patient centred and holistic

The Johnson/EU deal is pants
but it stops steps in the wrong direction
and enables steps in the right one

be thankful for the little things

dontcallmelen · 25/12/2020 18:46

LQ very sorry to read about your parent, do hope they get the care & treatment they need💐
Truly hope you are right & that it will enable steps in the right direction.

HappyWinter · 25/12/2020 18:47

I do try to understand other people's points of view even when they aren't my own, but I've never understood why Brexiteers think it was ok for them to complain about and fight for our removal from the EU when we were in it, but it wasn't (and isn't) ok for anyone who voted remain to say they weren't happy that and wanted to stay in, because the Brexiteers had "won" and that was the end of it.

I hope the divisions heal, but I will never be 100% happy with what we have lost. I don't think it is a problem to hold that opinion, as long as I am civil with it and try to understand other's points of view!

Shrillharridan · 25/12/2020 19:57

Merry Christmas my friends 🎄

I feel very full of nice food, very thankful for my wonderful dh and dc and even though we were told we were close contacts of a positive case at 7pm last night have had a lovely day.

LQ sending all good wishes for your dp.

Well. The deal is shit, far worse than what we had but its a deal.

I can't help thinking that this was all staged by Boris etc al. A Christmas miracle. Boris as the saviour of the great brexit experiment. Ugh.

Take care all xx

Peregrina · 25/12/2020 20:11

Doesn't this mean that Johnson now has to deliver the unicorns and sunlit uplands? The lazy excuse of 'the EU won't let us' is gone. It's no good asking us one time Remainers - the Leavers didn't want to know us (e.g. see the large number of decent Tories who had the whip withdrawn) so they don't need our help now. We have other things to do.

Shrillharridan · 25/12/2020 20:12

Quite.

And as we know he will fuck it up.

OhLittleBoreOfWhabylon · 25/12/2020 21:02

Doesn't this mean that Johnson now has to deliver the unicorns and sunlit uplands?

This is why he will leave as soon as he can.
