The next few weeks are crucial. Eu talks, covid handling, the US election and any other unexpected events (its nearly November, lets face it will probably be the weather).

It feels a little like the car crash in slow motion is about to hit the wall of reality. I guess that just means all there is left to do is to brace for impact.

ShulaArcher after living there until I could leave I am reminded how much I don’t like the culture every time I go back there. I am not speaking of a place I do not know and I am entitled to my own opinion. They sneered at me and attacked me for long enough. It’s very sexist and very conformist: one of the things I noticed after a break was how much fear there is on women’s faces there. As for the question of religion, it depends on exactly where you are, but the concept of using your own thoughts and not having an easily labelled religion seems alien.

Exclusive: Covid vaccine DES set to be announced imminently for December start

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8910093/amp/GPs-told-prepare-jabs-85s-frontline-medics-weeks.html?__twitter_impression=true
Is a Covid-19 vaccine coming at the start of December? GPs are 'told to prepare to give jabs to over-85s and frontline medics within weeks'

Lots of cavets in this but its being said 50:50 it will be ready for rollout for over 85s and frontline workers.

Its promising. Personally I think Jan or Feb is more realistic as an earliest start date, but yeah i think a lot of people need a little hope right now.

Roll outs for over 85s? It would be much better to have a roll out for care home occupants, who may or may not be over 85. Over 85s who don't go anywhere and stay in their own homes may not be at much risk.

Thread by Adam Wagner on the Lockdown 2 Legislation.

Its lengthy.

He notes that there is no explicit exemption for protests.

Adam Wagner @AdamWagner1
As The Times said last night, the explicit exception for public protest has been removed - so it is not explicitly" permitted. But that doesn't mean it has been banned - there is no explicit* ban either. Don't forget the list of exceptions is non-exhaustive

Lest we forget, fuck loads of Brits in Europe were disenfranchised in the Brexit vote when their ballots turned up late.

Regarding Melania: I thought she was photographed voting the other day (with Donald noticeably peering over her shoulder to check where her tick went...)

Think was a photo from 2016?
ListeningQuietly · 03/11/2020 19:28

I've just checked the local news channel and the Secret Service are quite open about sending all other voters away and stopping them voting while she was there.
Its not gone down well with the neighbours of Mar a Lago Grin
who I admit I'd assumed were all red but many turn out to be blue

Well yes, I was referring to the ones that were actually allowed to vote.

Fuck it, I’m French now anyway. Got my shiny new birth certificate in the post today Smile

HoneysuckIejasmine · 03/11/2020 19:46

@ListeningQuietly

Somebody I know has just been sent away from a polling station after waiting in line so that Melania could vote unmasked and alone Angry
Do you mean "sent away" as in lost opportunity to vote, or "made to wait outside whilst she took her sweet time voting alone" which is annoying but not actual disenfranchisement.

Pepperwort although I’m not doubting what you’ve experienced, I don’t recognise the ‘northwest’ you describe as the place I grew up and where I’ve lived most of my life. I find your description quite offensive, actually. Perhaps you’re talking about a very specific location and shouldn’t be tarring an entire region of the UK with the same brush?

They were told to leave the area and come back later ....
have you seen the length of the queues in much of the USA today ?
Some of those people will not have come back
so were disenfranchised

Peregrina · 03/11/2020 20:46

I hope that long queues bode well for a Biden win, but I am not going to get my hopes up.

No need to get tetchy. I know all about US politics ta, we have votes in this house. Just asking for clarification.

QueenofThorns whatever. I know there are big divides in the north west and a very strong defensive reaction in favour of pretending they dont exist, which I also find rather ‘offensive’. But I will go back to lurking and perhaps this thread can go back to being about Brexit rather than trying to alienate all differences of opinion under the term ‘offensive’.
