The next few weeks are crucial. Eu talks, covid handling, the US election and any other unexpected events (its nearly November, lets face it will probably be the weather).

It feels a little like the car crash in slow motion is about to hit the wall of reality. I guess that just means all there is left to do is to brace for impact.

You know its getting bad when a Government ad on Linkedin has, among the highest rated comments, one that reads "Fuck Off"
snigger

Gosh DGR you might get deleted twice in one day for the above comment.

Interesting the picture was deleted, not the comment (since a posty quoting it was allowed to stand).

Not quite what that says about the nature of the report to MNHQ, or about their feelings about it ?

In contrast, Dr Jerzewska discovered that the four EU nations most impacted by Brexit, and on the webinar yesterday, had systems already working and she later tweeted about it:

An all-day webinar today with the Belgian, Dutch, French, and Irish customs authorities (as you might have noticed by my earlier tweets).

You know these traffic management systems we're trying to build in the last few months of this year? The have them ready.

(contd)

DGR re the time line for getting results in the US: are you saying this description, courtesy of the Tory graph, is incorrect?

"Each state begins to certify its results from November 10, though this too can be delayed if there is a recount. Every state except California must complete the certification by December 8. All disputes – including challenges and recounts – must be resolved by this date.

Electors formally cast their votes on December 14 and send them to Washington."

I'm not going to argue with such an august source of impartial facts as the Telegraph. However, from memory, buried somewhere in the 2000 PE, I recall there was a lot of ping-ponging between SCOTUS and the Florida supreme court that went on for ages

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_v._Gore for the brave.

bearing in mind they still haven't bottomed out exactly what to do with

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faithless_elector

which is where UKians like myself can express the same "WTF" sentiments about US "democracy" as USians occasionally express about the UK ...

Both sides have lawyered up ready to argue the toss about which votes count at which point in time.

Worryingly, Brett "I like beer" Kavanaugh has said that if postal votes counted after the day shift who wins the state, there will be grounds to assume it fraudulent. Current thoughts is a lot of from votes will be postal and so initial on the day results might suggest Trump win, but once they start counting the absentees, it'll switch at which point Trump will cry fraud and the puppets supreme court agree with him.

As it happens, the amount of early voting is incredible so that gives hope that Biden might show an early lead removing the above possibility. Apparently in Texas, almost as many people have voted already (5 days to go) than voted in total in 2016. Huge turnout among 18-24 too. 🤞🤞🤞

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 30/10/2020 18:02

I'm just worried that waiting to see who wins will be just another excuse to prevaricate.

I read an interesting analysis about how Justice Roberts is handling the multiple cases they are getting at the moment
and Kavanagh seems to be surprised that his comments were shredded in the way they were.
The Supreme Court are not going to be seen to undermine the rights of the people
because if they do and Biden does get in, there will be suddenly 13 chairs ...

What will the 8 other supremes say ? (That's if all 9 sit on any case - Trump appointees might recuse themselves ...)

I really hope they are capable of reading the room. After all, we all thought Jeff Sessions would wave things through for Trump but he recused himself so trump fired him so maybe they'll surprise us. Doubt it though. Hopes too dangerous in these times.

Arborea this is also being discussed on R4 just now. Apparently its whizzing around the news agencies.

Arborea · 30/10/2020 22:58

Thanks ICouldHave: I've been avoiding R4 for months - too rage inducing. Struggling a bit today: I should have been seeing family in NI now but won't: for most of them it's been a year since they saw me and my young children. Likewise for my in-laws, with whom I'm lucky to have a good relationship. And a dear friend has also had bad news and I can't just rush to see her. I'm starting to feel quite low, and in many ways I'm very fortunate and unscathed by COVID, so goodness knows how others are doing Sad

HoneysuckIejasmine · 30/10/2020 23:00

Mr Speaker is going to be furious about this, once again failing to inform parliament first.
