Westminstenders: PreGrades (Minority Report comes to the UK)

RedToothBrush · 15/08/2020 19:54

In Aug 2020, London, DC's prototype 'PreGrades' launched from the education department stops plebs before they go to university, reducing the social mobility rate to zero percent. Social mobility is predicted using specialized mutated humans, called "Teachers", who "predict" grades by marking shit lots of course work and exams over a period of years. Would-be social climbers are knocked down in a computer algorithm which distorts reality and hits the disadvantaged hardest. Central government is on the verge of adopting the controversial program nationwide by applying it in all departments from the DWP, the Home Office, the Department of Health and the Department of Justice to predict benefit fraud, getting sick asylum seeking and crime before it occurs.

DC's vision of the future is based on excellence being genetically ingrained into the elite but he must sell this vision to the unsuspecting public in a series of public votes which rely on the idea of the 'undeserving'. Little do they know that they too will be the victims of this plan until a mysterious bug appears and only the wealthy and well connected are able to get hold of adequate PPE and they are no longer able to buy bog roll nor retire to Spain as they had previously and endless queues for pizza form near Kent.

@Peregrina

Isn't "looking tired" a euphemism for "too much shagging around"?
Private Eye used to say "tired and emotional" for drunk as a lord.

Has Uganda been in the news of late ?

yoikes · 26/08/2020 11:10

Scotland’s handling of the coronavirus puts independence back on the agenda

www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2020-08-25/scotland-handling-coronavirus-boosts-support-independence

EDINBURGH, Scotland —

There is wide agreement that Britain’s devastating coronavirus outbreak has been met by strong, effective political leadership. Just not from Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

While Johnson has often seemed to flounder and flip-flop his way through the biggest national crisis in decades, Scottish leader Nicola Sturgeon has won praise for her sober, straight-talking response.

The gulf between the neat, concise Sturgeon and the rumpled, rambling Johnson has catapulted the idea of Scottish independence from the United Kingdom — the long-held dream of Sturgeon’s nationalist government — back up the political agenda.

(contd)

incidentally, I wonder if the Johnson resignation timeline has been floated in anticipation of the UK waking up to a President Biden who couldn't give a shit about Brexit or the UKs self inflicted woes ?

Germany has scrapped plans to discuss Brexit at a high-level diplomatic meeting next week

The UK govt / Brexiters have always expected that at the 59th minute, Merkel & Macron will push Barnier to the side and make a deal

  • the EU doesn't work that way; it really isn't run by Germany & France, but by a consensus of 27 countries.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/aug/26/germany-scraps-plans-for-brexit-talks-at-eu-ambassadors-summit

“We have had the whole summer completely wasted, a cabinet that doesn’t understand how the negotiations work,
a prime minister who, I think, doesn’t understand how the negotiations work – because he is under the wrong impression that he can pull off negotiating at the 11th hour.”
....
“More and more people have come to the conclusion that Brexit ideology trumps Brexit pragmatism in the UK government,”
the diplomat said.
“If the UK really wanted to jump off the Brexit cliff for ideological reasons, there would be no way for the EU to stop this.”

John Crace on WIlliamson: 😂 / 🤦🏻‍♀️

www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/aug/26/its-a-dogs-breakfast-for-gavin-williamson-and-his-owner

“Ah, let me be clear,” said Gavin.
He hadn’t said how quickly he would follow the scientific adviceand England had a strong track record of reacting later than everyone else.
That was why we had a coronavirus mortality rate to be proud of.

yoikes · 26/08/2020 20:41

Merde

FrankieStein402 · 26/08/2020 20:58

I'm not sure why it wouldn't help.
Given the no of males who seem to think the mask is to keep their chin warm...

The headmistress was making the point that masks would just be something else that teens would mess about with during breaks/in toilets etc. I read that as taking masks on/off, playing/posing with them, throwing around, criticising fashionability, whatever, actually means the kids are 'playing' with potentially concentrated transmission vectors.

A student on pm this evening made the point that they couldn't get year 7s/8s to wear ties properly, let alone masks.

I thought the head was talking sense - though another head being interviewed seemed to be claiming a much better behaved cohort - obviously she never visits behind the bike sheds - or whatever equivalent is used these days. :)

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2020 21:06

You might want to check the political credentials of said headteacher... and also the claims she makes of having the best behaved pupils in the UK! Suddenly not, it appears...

She has been politicising this issue on Twitter and consistently talking as if masks have been required in lessons.

DGRossetti · 26/08/2020 21:10

www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-53921121

The price of flour and bread is set to rise after what could be the worst UK wheat harvest in 40 years, the industry is warning.

Farmers say that the extreme weather over the last year is likely to mean wheat yields are down by up to 40%.

As a result, some millers have already increased the price of flour by 10% and they warn a no-deal Brexit could push up prices even further.

And we're likely to see more of the same weather in future, experts say.

The UK Met Office told BBC News that the extremes of wet and hot conditions that have marked this year are likely to become more common as our climate continues to change.

(contd)

TatianaBis · 26/08/2020 21:32

What do they say about buckwheat?

TatianaBis · 26/08/2020 21:34

Buckwheat isn’t a grain and I don’t know if there’s any grown here.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 26/08/2020 21:41

Ok, just bought another bag before prices rise. It's good for a year after milling.

BigChocFrenzy · 26/08/2020 22:04

... I wonder if UK schools genuinely cannot control classes, despite managing to make most students wear uniform, unlike almost all other students in Europe

Reports so far in Europe are that students required to wear masks are being pretty compliant.

As with SD measures for adults, masks probably don't require anywhere near full compliance to make a significant improvement
