Westminstenders: PreGrades (Minority Report comes to the UK)

In Aug 2020, London, DC's prototype 'PreGrades' launched from the education department stops plebs before they go to university, reducing the social mobility rate to zero percent. Social mobility is predicted using specialized mutated humans, called "Teachers", who "predict" grades by marking shit lots of course work and exams over a period of years. Would-be social climbers are knocked down in a computer algorithm which distorts reality and hits the disadvantaged hardest. Central government is on the verge of adopting the controversial program nationwide by applying it in all departments from the DWP, the Home Office, the Department of Health and the Department of Justice to predict benefit fraud, getting sick asylum seeking and crime before it occurs.

DC's vision of the future is based on excellence being genetically ingrained into the elite but he must sell this vision to the unsuspecting public in a series of public votes which rely on the idea of the 'undeserving'. Little do they know that they too will be the victims of this plan until a mysterious bug appears and only the wealthy and well connected are able to get hold of adequate PPE and they are no longer able to buy bog roll nor retire to Spain as they had previously and endless queues for pizza form near Kent.

Queens speech this year will start:

"Do you remember when one referred to 1992 as 'annus horribilis,' ?

well fuck one, what shall one call 2020 ?"

Pepperwort · 15/08/2020 20:14

Hullo again one and all. I just stumbled across another COVID fuck-up which I hadn’t heard of, you people might. Someone (elsewhere on site) complained about asylum seekers being housed in luxury hotels. If you google it, it seems they were all but imprisoned, with no financial support, only hotel meals. Councils’ concerns unheard, as usual.

Pepperwort · 15/08/2020 20:15

Fantastic op. Only wish it were fantastic.

My son was showing me the Stones ‘Scarlet’ video on YouTube featuring Paul Mescal (from Normal People) .

Under it someone had written ‘Paul Mescal Is not having the same 2020 as the rest of us’.

The Queen though - is definitely having the same 2020 as all of us.

[UK] Police have issued a warning about a dangerous high-strength batch of Donald Trump-shaped ecstasy pills. Hmm

This coming week, GCCE results and even more downgrades expected

https://www.theguardian.com/education/2020/aug/15/controversial-exams-algorithm-to-set-97-of-gcse-results

more than 4.6 million GCSEs in England – about 97% of the total – will be assigned solely by the algorithm drawn up by exam regulator Ofqal

Love the comment about Grayling as a unit of incompetence, from the previous thread.

2020 is turning into an epic shitshow. If I reach December 31st with an intact family unit and sober, I will be doing well.

Bracing myself for the delights of Williamson and school reopening in September. There's already protests outside Parliament about the A levels fiasco.

BigChocFrenzy · 15/08/2020 20:33

The next time some complacent mc poster claims
"bright kids will get to Uni whatever school they go to" .... 🤯
the loudest FUCK OFF is the only reply I can give

TatianaBis · 15/08/2020 20:35

Sure Queenie has Balmoral but she also has one relative suspected of sex offences and another who’s skipped the country.

BigChocFrenzy · 15/08/2020 20:37

"Love the comment about Grayling as a unit of incompetence, from the previous thread. "

I wasn't sure whether to set the unit as a Williamson,
because the consequences of his fuckups - if not reversed - will be far more long-lasting than Grayling"s
(Failing's 12-13 fuckups cost a mere 3 billion quid, which is just a UK budget roundoff error)

BigChocFrenzy · 15/08/2020 20:38

.... Yes and she's displaying 100% family loyalty / rude finger signs to the public

Computers deciding our futures is something that has bugged me for some time. I dislike like the very idea of ID cards for this reason. All it takes is for this idea of the computer system always being infaliable and being the deciding factor in major life events for it to be a problem. Trusting that all the information in a computer about you is correct and can only be used in a way which is neutral and isn't going to negatively affect you, is desparately naive. The idea that computer data is free from bias is even worse.

We need a human element to individualise us and determine our strengths, weaknesses and where we don't fit the system for our needs to be properly met.

What I find disturbing in this particular story is the knowledge that this government have a lot of high profile individuals who believe that the privileged upper class and upper middle class are genetically superior to the rest of the population and more deserving of their status and opportunities.

The whole mess we are in right now is because of the closing door on social mobility.

I've spend a rather bizarre 24 hours on a mad unplanned trip to the North East (we didn't stop for photos at Barnard Castle as tempting as it was). We drove through a lot of 'interesting' areas and a few which were much more 'trendy' and the contrast is stark. Its definitely a trip which gives food for thought.

The unceremonious sacking of Prince Andrew certainly cheered me up.

Pepperwort · 15/08/2020 20:42

The Queen is an old woman. I don’t know that we all need to line up to give her a good kicking now. She doesn’t run the country.

TatianaBis · 15/08/2020 20:44

We’re not the ones giving her a kicking - she’s got her family for that.

AuldAlliance · 15/08/2020 20:48

PMK with Provençal landscape, emptied of British holidaymakers as far as the eye can see.

Something that has annoyed me about computers for a long long time is that people seem to think they’re magical black boxes. They actually change nothing. Clue is in the name information communications, that’s all it is. Human social needs don’t change, humans might be faster at processing audiovisual info but that’s it. The rules of handling information don’t change. It’s just a bloody format shift!
