Westminstenders: PreGrades (Minority Report comes to the UK)

RedToothBrush · 15/08/2020 19:54

In Aug 2020, London, DC's prototype 'PreGrades' launched from the education department stops plebs before they go to university, reducing the social mobility rate to zero percent. Social mobility is predicted using specialized mutated humans, called "Teachers", who "predict" grades by marking shit lots of course work and exams over a period of years. Would-be social climbers are knocked down in a computer algorithm which distorts reality and hits the disadvantaged hardest. Central government is on the verge of adopting the controversial program nationwide by applying it in all departments from the DWP, the Home Office, the Department of Health and the Department of Justice to predict benefit fraud, getting sick asylum seeking and crime before it occurs.

DC's vision of the future is based on excellence being genetically ingrained into the elite but he must sell this vision to the unsuspecting public in a series of public votes which rely on the idea of the 'undeserving'. Little do they know that they too will be the victims of this plan until a mysterious bug appears and only the wealthy and well connected are able to get hold of adequate PPE and they are no longer able to buy bog roll nor retire to Spain as they had previously and endless queues for pizza form near Kent.

@Dontlickthetrolley

Who had today at 9.30pm for the uturn on face masks at schools?!
‘U-turn if you want to, I’m going on holiday’.
DrBlackbird · 26/08/2020 00:08

But my money would be Gove is probably still human enough to know he doesn't want to be next PM.

DGR you are more optimistic than me. I think Gove still desperately wants to be PM therefore can't be human as none of this lot are AND Cummings will want him to be next PM, continuing they're cosy friendship from Dept of Ed days.

BigChocFrenzy · 26/08/2020 00:46

3 officially confirmed to have caught it twice so far:
cases in Hong Kong, Belgium, NL
but probably quite a number of others put down to the old infection flaring up

BlackeyedSusan · 26/08/2020 01:07

And those who have had it but weren't tested first time...

Mistigri · 26/08/2020 06:52

I don't know about the European cases but according to immunology twitter the HK one isn't really concerning. Symptomatic first time, asymptomatic second time - basically what you'd expect of the immune system doing its thing & providing some protection against a subsequent infection.

Reinforces the argument for blanket vaccination, because a second infection while perhaps not dangerous for most individuals may still result in transmission.

QueenOfThorns · 26/08/2020 07:00

There have been more than 20 million positive COVID tests in the world. I’m not particularly concerned about this tiny number of people who have apparently caught it twice. Surely there would be far more by now if immunity doesn’t happen? I know someone who had measles twice, it’s something that happens rarely, but it doesn’t mean that the vast majority of people aren’t immune after having it, or that we shouldn’t vaccinate!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/08/2020 07:41

Covid can give kids runny noses I'm afraid. It's going to be difficult this autumn/winter.

yoikes · 26/08/2020 07:45

Ds2 starts secondary school today.
I don't imagine he'll be there long before his year group b7bble has to self isolate.
120 kids and their families? People just aren't going to do it.

yoikes · 26/08/2020 07:45

I'm going to try and get seen by a gp today!
Wish me luck!

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 26/08/2020 07:46

I thought antibody tests werent reliable after a certain period due to reduced response. Surely like the flu its completely possible to catch it againt the following year even if unlikely to the same winter?

FrankieStein402 · 26/08/2020 08:35

Listening to today this am - excellent comments from a head on why kids wearing masks in 2ndary won't necessarily help - lots of reasons all sensible.

(The use of the word 'incredible' by a politician in a sentence now seems a marker for dissembling - it's use rely grates these days.)

FrankieStein402 · 26/08/2020 08:38

Really, really grates. (twas Williamson that triggered the thought)

prettybird · 26/08/2020 09:06

We are becoming inured to government politicians gaslighting us: saying that they'd always said something might happen when we know that they'd been saying the opposite just the day before ShockConfused

Gavin Williamson's explanation today of wearing face masks in communal schools is an example.

prettybird · 26/08/2020 09:07

As an aside: dh now understands and uses the term gaslighting Wink

I am not sure that this has been covered but

twitter.com/nickboles/status/1298529412602830849?s=21

I find this extraordinary..... it's one thing to be a hard arse negotiator ...... it's quite another to be despised because of you misogynistic and racist views........

They have obviously have never heard the saying "you catch more bees with honey...."

mrslaughan · 26/08/2020 09:16

@quiteathome

I think DS already has a cold

I believe Colds have snot. Covid is snot free.

The problem is Covid sometimes has a runny nose......it's not a main symptom- but has been documented in some cases. So not a hard and fast rule
Peregrina · 26/08/2020 09:24

On the Nick Boles twitter link there is an interesting post about the tent being taken down - no bleached grass underneath as would be expected if a tent had been up overnight and the fire not burnt down to ash. In short, a put up job.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't help. I found this article really good at explaning what ar the different modes of transmission of the virus and why particulates in the air are so important (which a mask and good ventilation woud protect us from). If anything, the one place where I woud like to see masks is in the classroom.... 1 hour together, 30 kids plus teacher. For me that's the recipe for a high concentratin of the virus in the air.

@Dontlickthetrolley

Who had today at 9.30pm for the uturn on face masks at schools?!
Should have run a sweep stake on it.

Whats the next thing likely to be a uturn for?

Williamson back to the whips office after being given the confidence of the PM at education? (thats the latest rumour but im not buying that. Williamson is there for a whipping a while longer)

What else?

We get a uturn about once a fortnight so im guessing we should pencil one in for around the 11th?

Also wondering if this is just another 'poor Boris' story set up by Cummings. Poor Boris had to cut his holiday short...poor Boris is still not feeling well.

"Don't you think he looks tired?"

Interesting.

OP posts:
Peregrina · 26/08/2020 10:02

Isn't "looking tired" a euphemism for "too much shagging around"?

BigChocFrenzy · 26/08/2020 10:11

There is considerable scientific evidence now that masks help reduce transmission
and that transmission by surfaces is comparatively rare - transmission is respiratory

Also, the masks are to protect the middle-aged & vulnerable staff, not really the kids, who are at v low risk

It does surprise me to hear reports that masks would be impossible for kids in UK schools

  • I don't see why they would be so different to other European countries already doing this
BigChocFrenzy · 26/08/2020 10:15

From face masks to Covid testing: 11 times the UK government has U-turned

I'm all for changing policy as science gains knowledge, but this govt has been dragged kicking & screaming most times
Also gives the impression that BJ is copying NS in Scotland, not a good look
