“In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”

Not George Orwell but often attributed to him. But a powerful statement with resonance nonetheless

pussycat who the fuck has a “tapestry room”? What even is a “tapestry room”?

Snowjive2 · 28/05/2020 21:13

“The price of defending Cummings is admitting Johnson’s inadequacy”

The second article to that effect in The Spectator. This is very serious for Johnson.

I've always read your name as Don't Call Melen Blush Tropical.

Peregrina · 28/05/2020 21:17

I can't see the Spectator article - a pity. It really doesn't look good when Mary Wakefield was a Commissioning Editor.

I believe it's owned by the Barclay brothers, and they are having their own difficulties at the present.

DGRossetti · 28/05/2020 21:17

Apparently we aren't all equals.

Still the bit I could see was juicy enough:

Danny Kruger, formerly Johnson’s political secretary and now the MP for Devizes, has – perhaps inadvertently – done the country some small service. In a note sent to newly-elected Tory MPs, Mr Kruger has reportedly advised his colleagues that ‘calling for Dominic Cummings to go is basically declaring no confidence in [the] prime minister.’ Well, yes, indeed. That is the point. Because, in the end, this is not a story about Dominic Cummings but, rather, one about the Prime Minister.

That is just it of course. If Cummings had apologised and stepped down, that would have been the end of the story for now. Johnson could have brought him back when the heat had died down.

mrslaughan · 28/05/2020 21:20

"pussycat who the fuck has a “tapestry room”? What even is a “tapestry room”?"

People with delusions of grandeur...

pussycatinboots · 28/05/2020 21:20

Sabrina tbh I do a lot of cross stitch, so my whole house is one mahoosive "tapestry room" Grin including DH "Playstation" room which is my stitchery Wink

pussycatinboots · 28/05/2020 21:23

mrslaughlan trust me, it's not that grand! I don't have a turret or anything ostentatious Grin

yoikes · 28/05/2020 21:23

Well.
Fuck me.

Snowjive2 · 28/05/2020 21:26

Peregrina I’m sorry. I can see the full article on Twitter and also the first time I googled it, now it says it’s available to subscribers only (I’m not one of those). It is an excoriating article. Heartwarming.

pussycatinboots · 28/05/2020 21:27

Yoikes did my lack of turret push you over the edge?
Flowers

mrslaughan · 28/05/2020 21:27

I thought that was Cummings house? Sorry puss in boots.....
Serves me right for speed reading, trying to catch up on a days worth of posts 🤯

Peregrina · 28/05/2020 21:28

Yoikes - would you elaborate?

If it's about the Spectator, I imagine that their concern is the damage it's doing to the Tory party.

SabrinaThwaite · 28/05/2020 21:28

pussycat I find it interesting that there’s a tapestry room, reading room, formal living room, dining room and kitchen on the plans.

But no family room or play room.

ListeningQuietly · 28/05/2020 21:28

DGR
Classy.
Time to contact every Country and District Councillor in the area and check that they are happy with his views
Tories need their foot soldiers
Local elections are next May (in double numbers)

twitter.com/simonmaginn/status/1266071585179480065?s=21

Does that work?

yoikes · 28/05/2020 21:29

I'm afraid that's about as eloquent as I can manage atm :(

snow love a good turret, me.

Peregrina · 28/05/2020 21:30

Ah yes, found it via twitter, and just about to read. However, googling, I see that the paper said six years ago that he wasn't fit to lead.

mrslaughan · 28/05/2020 21:30

Snowjive. DH was very excited to seeing it( the spectator article) .... made his day...

Thanks red - love the title of the thread ..... very apt today as a Tory friend on Facebook is trying to make an argument that facts and figures are not about the truth 🤯

SabrinaThwaite · 28/05/2020 21:31

And I’d love a turret - found a fabulous house once where they’d turned a turret room into a bathroom. They’re not that uncommon in houses in NE Scotland.

yoikes · 28/05/2020 21:31

....
I mean....
fuck me!
What an absolute and utter clusterfuck
I'm so sick of it
Motherfuckers
