“In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”

Not George Orwell but often attributed to him. But a powerful statement with resonance nonetheless

as Raab has demonstrated many a time....

His comments about Dover were so painful to listen to, made worse by the fact that he didn't know he was showing his ignorance.

yoikes · 01/06/2020 16:10

Well, ds2 is home and had a great day.
He said it wasn't "too weird" and he wants to "get back into a routine".
I'd have been quite happy him not going back but...
All except 1 child in his class are back in school.

yoikes · 01/06/2020 16:11

It's a 1 form entry

DGRossetti · 01/06/2020 16:19

And arrogance.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 01/06/2020 17:06

"We're going to do things differently...."

Handcock has to read out his own propaganda charts.

Looks like there's been a mutiny among the boffins.

Piggywaspushed · 01/06/2020 17:11

Whyvate they silencing the scientists at the briefing. Hmmmm

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 01/06/2020 17:34

The change to lockdown rules "was not introduced suddenly."

(On Sunday night for Monday morning.)

BigChocFrenzy · 01/06/2020 17:53

He means they didn't jump out from behind a bush and tell you lockdown has been cancelled

yoikes · 01/06/2020 18:23

Christ!
Imagine Handcock jumping out at you!
Enough to give you an episode 😵

www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/jennifer-arcuri-warns-against-using-22113921

Boris Johnson’s alleged ex-mistress is advising against using the NHS coronavirus tracking app.

Jennifer Arcuri, who gave him technology lessons at her flat, said: “There is no way I would download that app.”

The app, which may eventually hold data on millions of Brits, is set to be rolled out across the UK after its Isle of Wight trial.

Ms Arcuri, 35, raised her fears in an exclusive interview.

She said: “The Government can say they’re doing the best to keep it secure, there’s just no guarantee it’s 100 per cent secure or the data is going to be kept secure, encrypted and used only for this.

“I don’t think people should give away their freedoms.”

An earlier power-mad act by Cummings going to court:

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/jun/01/government-fails-to-distance-dominic-cummings-from-sex-discrimination-case-boris-johnson

Government lawyers have tried and failed to remove the name of Dominic Cummings from a sex discrimination claim being pursued by Sajid Javid’s former special adviser.....

The demand was rejected after barristers for Sonia Khan, the former chancellor’s media adviser who was marched by armed police from Downing Street,
successfully argued that the behaviour of Boris Johnson’s chief aide was pivotal to the case.

Cummings could be made personally liable for part of any damages award
< good, why should taxpayers foot the bill for power-mad Cummings sending in armed police >

Coronavirus laws changed to mean relatives are not 'childcare' after Dominic Cummings scandal

Boris Johnson’s alleged ex-mistress is advising against using the NHS coronavirus tracking app.

....Maybe she should have been giving him actual IT lessons instead of (cough) "IT Lessons...."

mrslaughan · 01/06/2020 19:52

Sooooo watching Channel 4 news , apparently David Frost believes Barnier is "being to ideological about the single market"...... they still haven't got it .... (though I suspect you will point out to me it's all noise to set up for no deal......)

Had a funny few days were literally every man and his dog seems to be asking to meet up. My Suffolk friends turned up and we chatted for an hour distancing in the garden. It was nice but I did feel strangely guilty and as if my neighbour was curtain twitching and today we went on a socially distanced beach trip with one of dd's school friends. They drew out their respective "sand boxes" and played quite happily. Was very nice to talk to another adult who hasn't been following the quite rubbish links to school work as religiously as the Whatsapp mums Grin Then we went for a dog walk and met a neighbour who was very chatty and teaches at a local private primary. Poor lady probably thought she had finished for the day before dd spent the hour long walk telling her all about us and our dog Hmm I've felt more sociable in the last day and a half than the last 2 years! Most bizarre.

mrslaughan · 01/06/2020 20:06

Thanks for sharing that article 🐓- it's fantastic

OldLace · 01/06/2020 20:14

Eh?

Tomorrow the Govt wants 650 MPs to stand in a giant queue to vote on how the Commons makes decisions from now on. As somebody in the 'vulnerable' category, I am unable to join them.

I am furious that for the first time in my 25 years as an MP I am being denied the right to vote!

But will they actually go? I've not seen any other articles in this vein
Peregrina · 01/06/2020 20:33

I feel a certain amount of schadenfreude about Arcuri saying that she doesn't trust the track and trace app. She doesn't owe Johnson any loyalty.

Although it is worrying that there isn't a proper track and trace system in place.

JeSuisPoulet · 01/06/2020 20:37

Thanks @mrslaughan - I feel a bit like the artist formally known as Prince in your post Grin

I also wanted to ask; has anyone donated blood in UK since lockdown? I am meant to be going in on the 5th and keep getting reminders and texts to reassure me that strict measures are being taken for protection...

JeSuisPoulet · 01/06/2020 20:39

*formerly - not a chicken in a tux!

JeSuisPoulet · 01/06/2020 20:42

@Nquartz - I think the worrying aspect is that it looks as though they won't, despite a growing voice of alarm from scientists from all across the board. Nazi Germany springs to mind...but then it so often does since 2016 Sad I have certainly been glad of certain science groups on fb all seemingly very sensible in comparison to the "official" advice. Thank goodness for social media in some respects (again something I didn't think I would say post 2016!).

mrslaughan · 01/06/2020 21:09

So 1.3km queue if MP's - it will
Paralyse Parliament........bit like proroguing via a different method.......
Also - have the removed the need to shield so they are not discriminating against MP's with health issues?
11:30 tomorrow will be interesting...... but what power...... or how much power does the speaker have to stop JRM's deeply undemocratic plan?
