Westminstenders: Magical Thinking

This week has seen reports of the government editing footage of Johnson to avoid embarrassing questions about the early government response.

We've been asked to accept that the rules were different to what we were told to excuse the law breaking behaviour of a senior government advisor. As Johnson said he was being a responsible father (as if Johnson knows what this is) and it wasn't as if he was visiting a lover (this Johnson would know all about). Let's be honest Johnson is the master of brazening out controversy.

We also have the ERG complaining they were lied to by Gove about the new Withdrawal Agreement and the border in the Irish Sea which surprises precisely no one else.

They appear to be a little upset by the Cummings debarkable too.

Clothes shops and secondary schools at the same time! WooHoo! Get rid of the kids and get the summer wardrobe sorted! They'll be FINE sweltering in unventilated boiling hot classrooms. It's all good.

DrBlackbird · 25/05/2020 19:21

JeSuis we are in very serious trouble. Our country is being run by this egocentric in thrall to big tech who can't admit to because he doesn't see any faults and he has this power because of our mendacious and work-shy PM. And yet, this is democracy.

pussycatinboots · 25/05/2020 19:22

Piggy They won't be able to see the teacher anyway, with 3 months hair in the way Wink

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2020 19:22

The chances of protest under lockdown is well almost nil!

Brilliant Peston!!

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2020 19:23

This is true pussycat!

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 25/05/2020 19:24

I love Beth Rigby

prettybird · 25/05/2020 19:24

BJ trying to deflect Peston's actually quite good questions, saying that DC had already subjected himself to, and answered, plenty of questions from the press.

Yes, but he didn't answer those questions AngryConfused

pussycatinboots · 25/05/2020 19:24

Loving Beths work

LouiseCollins28 · 25/05/2020 19:25

Not really Piggy Cummings has had people outside his house for days. It doesn’t seem unlikely to me, given the media attitude towards him that they would be there day after day.

pussycatinboots · 25/05/2020 19:25

Ah, that explains is...Boris has washed his hands and he is unanimous in that!
tiny prick

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2020 19:26

Just wash your hands then.

I know what I'd like to wash my hands of.

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2020 19:27

louise he ahs been seen multiple times walking down his road, seemingly completed unfazed.

He referred to 'protesters'.

Choux · 25/05/2020 19:27

His wife can drive! Puts a whole different light on the Barnard Castle trip

pussycatinboots · 25/05/2020 19:28

I don't think any of the press have listened to a word Boris has said about shops reopening etc...
oh dear.

pussycatinboots · 25/05/2020 19:30

Choux unless he's one of those men that refuse to be a passenger with a woman behind the wheel...
He is, after all, an enormously arrogant man.

LouiseCollins28 · 25/05/2020 19:31

I should hope he can walk down the street he lives on “completely unfazed” whenever he likes (maintaining 2m distance at all times, obvs)

Did Peston or anyone actually ask him about protesters? I don’t remember him being asked abt that but I could well have missed it?

pussycatinboots · 25/05/2020 19:33

Well.
Both DC and BJ have given lots and lots of answers today.
Not necessarily to any of the questions asked of them Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2020 19:34

It ahs just come up on the briefing as a reason why Domini felt unsafe in his home to take advantage of the law that had to be fought for women to flee homes if they were in fear of DV.

Peston also asked him why his wife didn't drive home.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 25/05/2020 19:34

We must all follow the guidelines and interpret them based on our instincts.

No follow-ups. We're getting desensitised to this disembling oral flatulence.

OldLace · 25/05/2020 19:35

Johnson now saying he cant quite remember the conversation too.
'I regret the confusion anger and pain that people feel'

quelle surprise - Johnson got that out of the way PDQ!

My 12 year old with ASD has just said of Johnson: 'I have never heard anyone else say: 'I' so many times in one sentence'. She also remarked that he was 'good at washing his hands' too. And it's very rare for her to use language like that!

RedToothBrush · 25/05/2020 19:36

His wife can drive! Puts a whole different light on the Barnard Castle trip

Wives can't drive their husband. Husbands can't look after their 4 year old sons...

The good that comes out of this is we have pulled back the curtain and seen the Wizard who turns out to be a fraud. What now for Scarecrow Johnson, Tin Man Gove, Cowardly Lion Raab and Priti Dorothy?

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 25/05/2020 19:43

..And Toto the Education Secretary.

SwedishEdith · 25/05/2020 20:02

I keep thinking about the Mary Wakefield lies. Do you think they planned what she'd write/say together or did she do it alone? I mean that seems the obvious thing but I can't help wondering if she knew the lies would be found out. And who would be happy that their wife was putting themselves in that positions? Does someone that consistently belligerent have a completely different side at home? I had a relationship, years and years ago, with a man not disimmilar in arrogance and cockiness to Cummings. It wasn't healthy.

SwedishEdith · 25/05/2020 20:05

He took the virus up to Durham and exposed people to it at the hospital there.

We still don't know if any of them actually had the virus though.
