Brexit

What are you most looking forward to POST-Brexit?

I was a remain voter, and voted tactically against the Tories. I lost.

But onwards and upwards! We’re getting Brexit in January, like it or not, so I was just wondering what everyone was looking forward to the most?

I asked on a different pro-Brexit thread but nobody gave me an answer.

For me it’s the 350 million to the NHS with no trade deals with Trump. Or the continuing Peace in NI with no messing around with the GFA. Or the trade deals we’ve been promised without any reduction in standards.

I’m so ready to be convinced of how brilliant Brexit will be! Let me hear your positives, please Flowers

Citizenship in my new land
Which comes with a lovely red passport

ListeningQuietly · 16/12/2019 21:56

Cheap housing in the short term when the Xenophobes have driven the hard workers out

StealthPolarBear · 16/12/2019 22:48

I don't mean this flippantly but some sort of end. I appreciate its going to be awful and the deals will go on for years but I'm hopeful the end is in sight and we might soon know how bad it's going to be.
Oh and £350m per week for the NHS. Which I'm told off for raising. It's bad manners to remember lies and hold it against the liar.

Peregrina · 16/12/2019 22:58

I don't see an 'end' soon.
Add the 50,000 nurses to the £350 million for the NHS. Not yet a commitment reneged on, but one difficult to fulfil in the short term.

Peregrina · 16/12/2019 23:04

To add to the above - shortage of nurses is as acute where-ever you are but the S England Tories will grumble but then go private. This is not an option for the care worker or gig economy worker in the north, where there might not even be a private hospital.

LittleReindeer · 16/12/2019 23:08

A new hoover after EU restrictions limiting their power are removed. My mum’s hoover literally sucks the carpet up, they aren’t allowed to sell such powerful ones now.

Torchlightt · 16/12/2019 23:18

I'm going to encourage my DD to emigrate. I'm looking forward to holidaying abroad for free, sleeping on her sofa.

maidenover · 16/12/2019 23:37

@Peregrina you know not everyone in the ‘north’ is on a zero hours contract Hmm

JassyRadlett · 16/12/2019 23:49

I’ll bite. I think Brexit is, net, likely to be very damaging.

However, the opportunity to replace the CAP is a positive. A good result would see it replaced 100% with payments for public good - that is, management of land for environmental outcomes - but I’m not sure the government will be bold enough to make sure that we’re not just continuing to subsidise farming and landowning, rather than really stretching, measurable benefits for the environment.

Peregrina · 17/12/2019 00:38

Where did I say they were?

As for the vacuum cleaners - I bought a Miele earlier this year, which sucks the carpets off the floor.

WwfLeopard · 17/12/2019 00:50

The Supreme Court actually being supreme in the Uk, the points system to make Immigration fair (hopefully). The gov in power having no scapegoat when they fuck up

CareOfPunts · 17/12/2019 00:53

Leavers taking responsibility for the outcome, no matter what. I’ll happily congratulate themselves if it turns out great and admit I was wrong. Will they hold their hands up and admit they fucked up if it doesn’t?

MysteryTripAgain · 17/12/2019 01:17

Remain/second referendum parties got more votes than Leave parties

So why are they not in power?

Whowantstogotothepark · 17/12/2019 01:48

First past the post

MysteryTripAgain · 17/12/2019 01:50

I'm looking forward to people like @MysteryTripAgain eating their words

Won’t happen as I spend most of my life outside the UK and out of the UK tax system. However, I pay my own National Insurance so that I qualify for state pension and healthcare in the UK.

MysteryTripAgain · 17/12/2019 01:52

First past the post

Correct. So what was the point of Den Kodds post?

MysteryTripAgain · 17/12/2019 01:56

Will they hold their hands up and admit they fucked up if it doesn’t?

Article 49 allows the UK to rejoin if people change their minds.

raskolnikova · 17/12/2019 02:03

Will they hold their hands up and admit they fucked up if it doesn’t?

No.

Can you imagine people like Farage and Johnson taking responsibility for fucking up the country? They don't care.

When has any government acknowledged they were wrong?

raskolnikova · 17/12/2019 02:13

When has any government acknowledged they were wrong?

I don't know, maybe they should set a precedent when it becomes even more of a horrorshow. They won't though, because they don't give a fuck.

Vindication that the 3 years effort in learning a language and over 1000 euros spent on the process of getting citizenship for my resident EU country was not in vain.

I was right not to have blind faith in political process in the UK seeing sense, and opted to get EU citizenship so that I could continue to live, without worry, in the EU with my husband and kids! Yay me and my lack of faith in politicians and the electorate! Vindication!

Silvergreen · 17/12/2019 06:26

Er...lots of sales in shops? I'm comfortably off money wise and doubt I'll be affected much by Brexit so that could be a good thing.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 17/12/2019 06:58

I think you may be confusing suction with wattage.
