As ever, all are welcome - only one rule:

DON'T BE A TWAT!!

Note: I am a shit host, and not a patch on previous Landladies - I don't cook, I don't clean & I don't prepare drinks. I am a selfish bellend. If you want feeding, there's a microwave in back & a shop down the road. If you want drinks just help yourself 😘 - it's a free bar 🎉🥳🎈

@Fizzaftersix

I should clarify I was quoting Rev Giles Fraser - from the article Autumn linked to. I'm not as articulate or eloquent as he is. But I feel exactly the same way.

Saucery · 19/12/2019 21:13

I had a massive feeling of deja vu at that clip, Dapplegrey. I was sure it was from the other day, because of JC gesturing for the reporter to get out of the way at the end.
I imagine he enters the HoP with a face like a slapped arse every single day since last Thurs though, so I could be wrong Grin

howabout · 19/12/2019 21:26

If they'd (Labour) agreed to an election when Boris first asked, back in Sept/Oct, I think the result might have been quite different.

I'm not sure this is true because if they had agreed earlier I am not convinced so much of the LibDem vote would have come back to Labour. By playing the long game Labour and the Tories proved to the vast majority of the electorate that it was still a 2 horse race.

Coppersulphate · 19/12/2019 21:38

Before this thread is full I feel I have to come back into the Arms to thank the landladies and posters for giving me somewhere safe to lurk on MN.
I used to frequent the Arms regularly in the early days but, as a leaver I just got continual abuse and nasty name calling.
Some of the current posters (and two in particular who don't seem to be around now) on the WM thread would come in and demand reasons, answers and data.
It was a very unpleasant place back then.
All has changed of course.
Well done Boris and thanks again for all the posters on here who are now compromising and discussing the current political situation in a positive and civilised way.

DuckWillow · 19/12/2019 21:45

I still don't believe JC is a terrorist sympathiser despite what the media says.

The man was awarded a peace prize recently to silence from the British media. I only know about it as I have Swiss relatives and it was reported there. They were messaging me about it.

time4chocolate · 19/12/2019 22:02

👋👋Copper 🍷🍷welcome back

We have certainly had our fair share of 'ploppers' and 'flashers' venting their spleens in here over the years. I'm hopeful that now we all know the direction of travel that things will calm down😊

Dapplegrey · 19/12/2019 22:04

Coppersulphate I agree with everything you say.
It’s such a relief to have this thread where we can discuss things without being sneered at and insulted.
Worst of all were the posters who ganged together to discuss and laugh at anyone who disagreed with them.
I guess they still do but I don’t go on those threads as they will not tolerate any dissent.

SingingLily · 19/12/2019 22:08

and Jeremy had a face of thunder.

Just watching it again on Sky News.

Less Magic Grandpa, more Kevin the Sulky Teenager.

Evening, All. Another day of hope and optimism!

Do you mean, 'The Sean MacBride Peace Prize'? The one that is named after a chief of staff of the IRA? Confused

hospitalityinspector · 19/12/2019 22:26

Dapplegrey did you see the footage of JC leaving his house for the Queen's speech? Shock He nearly took the car door off with the slam he gave it.

Dapplegrey · 19/12/2019 22:35

Hospitality - yes I did. He’s going to need Botox if he goes on frowning so much.

SingingLily · 19/12/2019 23:11

Any port in a storm, Walking. Good news can be hard to come by sometimes so Jezza has to take what he can get. It's very remiss of the media, though, not to make a splash of it. In fact, I'd say it was evidence of media bias to ignore such a significant achievement.

In other news, Clive Lewis is throwing his hat in the leadership ring. Wasn't he the one bellowing "On your knees, bitch" at some awards ceremony a little while ago? Anyway, according to the Daily Mail page featured in the Press Preview, he believes that the reason Labour lost is because Jezza wasn't far enough Left.

I can't think why this revelation hasn't emerged before. There must have been thousands of voters on the doorstep saying, "I quite like Jezza but you know what his problem is? He's just not left wing enough. In fact, he's just playing at it really. So I'm voting Conservative instead".

I'm sure it all made perfect sense while it was still in Clive's head.

Anyway, I'm turning in. Night, All. Sleep well.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 19/12/2019 23:30

What is left of Corbyn, full on communism?

RaiseaGlasstoFreedom · 20/12/2019 00:11

... Undermining the one power the poor shared equally with the rich, their vote.

Wow.

Says it, all.

RaiseaGlasstoFreedom · 20/12/2019 00:14

Jeremy corbyn is a very angry man, I've always seen it since way back on this morning, he is always talking with suppressed rage.

ChrismArseDarkly · 20/12/2019 00:20

Yes, he's well known for being very angry and having suppressed rage, you couldn't be rightier.

DuckWillow · 20/12/2019 05:19

To be honest I don’t know what peace prize it was but gather it wasn’t the first time Corbyn has received peace related awards. I only heard about it as it was news in Switzerland where I have several relatives. One messaged me about it,

I was worried yesterday when the far right idiots were throwing their weight behind the Conservative Party but less so today. They will be either rejected or closely watched and rejected if they bring the party into disrepute. The comments of one toward Baroness Warsi was enough to make me rage though. I hope the Tories will reject that application.

Morning All! Brew

Thanks Copper 💐
It certainly feels very different now!!
Hopefully these threads will carry on for a fair bit (at least until Brexit Day...!)

Morning, All,

Leave your umbrellas in the stand by the door and enjoy a warm welcome in the Brexit Arms. Today, the Withdrawal Agreement Bill has its second reading, the first opportunity for it to be debated. If Boris can scrape up enough votes to support, it will move to the Committee Stage. Something tells me he will be fine.

Dusty has just brought the complimentary breakfast tray to the the bar - please help yourself.

Kettle's on.

DustyDiamond · 20/12/2019 07:19

Morning Lily Brew

Last day of work today 🙌🙌
Then I'm off until the New Year 🥳

I've only been back at work for 6 weeks & I'm EXHAUSTED!!!!
(And it's very much not a remotely physical job 😳)

I've worked full time since I left school, for over 20 yrs, but just 4 yrs of not working has ruined me 😩😩😂😂

Will be bliss to loaf around again doing cock all for a couple of weeks 😍

Morning, Dusty, ah but you are helping to keep the wheels of the economy turning. I just help them not to squeak every now and again.

zerofeeling · 20/12/2019 07:37

Gosh yes, you're right about that! Brew

DuckWillow · 20/12/2019 07:40

I am sure he will be fine now he has a majority, things should start to move.

People sharing on other threads the “What has the EU ever done for us” stuff such as big support/achievements etc. Trouble is my Dad shares regularly a list of all the downsides. I’ve given up reading it all as it messes with my brain. It’s not that black and white, there will be positives and negatives.

I’m still conflicted because nobody can predict what will happen. And tbh that’s a lot of the reason I voted Remain. I still don’t like the uncertainty but never felt strongly enough to sign petitions or go on marches (my idea of hell). I just want to see some movement on it all so the Govt can then go back to doing what it should be doing which is addressing the big concerns of health/education etc.

DuckWillow · 20/12/2019 07:44

Dusty I’ve had five years of not working. I start a new job on 6th January...and I know I am going to be exhausted for several weeks until I adjust.

The last three months I’ve had my autistic son refusing college so we’ve all got into a routine of not getting up until 8ish. All changes after a mas when he starts at a special needs sixth form college so back to early morning starts. I’ve begun by setting my alarm for 6am already and rushing round slowly Grin except for weekends.

Already scrubbed the kitchen this morning and now drinking coffee and planning what to do next.

zerofeeling · 20/12/2019 07:56

Don't worry DuckWillow the Tories are very good at taking on The Right Smile
