New thread.

General election 12th December 2019. Results out on Friday 13th. Unlucky day for some.

So this election is unusual in that it will focus primarily on Brexit and referendums with domestic issues tagged alongside, for some parties.

Here's another glorious BXP candidate story

"Our Brexit party candidate for Worthing West is able to serve Worthing in the UK Parliament due to his Australian citizenship. UK citizenship is pending."

He doesn't live in Worthing and he only arrived in the U.K. in 2018, so his U.K. citizenship will be pending for the life of the next parliament.

^^ ERG not feeling the love for Farage
When Brexshitters fall out .....

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2019/11/03/nigel-farage-risks-becoming-man-threw-away-brexit-warns-senior/

Nigel Farage risks becoming the “man who threw away Brexit”^, the most senior Tory Eurosceptic backbencher has warned, as the Brexit Party leader prepares to unveil his 600 election candidates.

In a blistering attack on Mr Farage, Steve Baker, the chairman of the European Research Group (ERG), accused him of “setting out” to create a “weak and indecisive” hung Parliament.

BigChocFrenzy · 04/11/2019 14:02

pretzels 😂 Just howling over your link:

A former general election candidate for the Brexit Party has stood down after it emerged that she believes she comes from the star Sirius and that aliens are already working with world governments.

Jill Hughes, who was the party's prospective candidate for Batley and Spen, also believes in "elves/fairies/mermaids/unicorns and all things elemental and otherworldly", and that her horse was reincarnated as another horse.

MoltoAgitato · 04/11/2019 14:02

Does anyone think the report on Russian interference will be leaked?

DGRossetti · 04/11/2019 14:04

"Our Brexit party candidate for Worthing West is able to serve Worthing in the UK Parliament due to his Australian citizenship. UK citizenship is pending."

Isn't it the law that a candidate must be able to vote in any election in which they stand ?

He doesn't live in Worthing and he only arrived in the U.K. in 2018, so his U.K. citizenship will be pending for the life of the next parliament.

The machine says he needs everybody to campaign for him to get a Remain win Grin

Maybe BJ will copy Trump and claim it was all a sinister plot by Ukraine to frame poor Putin.

Trump's Attorney-General is carrying out a major investigation to "prove" this and hence rescue Trump from impeachment

Maybe copy the BXP candidate and claim it is all a plot by ETs from Sirius

FadingStar · 04/11/2019 14:07

So glad to see the Remain parties in NI support each other above and beyond unionist and nationalist lines.

Jux · 04/11/2019 14:18

As an aside, I would very much like Ken Clarke as Speaker; such a shame he's been treated so badly by the Thatched Twat, bet he can't wait to shake the dust of the place off his feet, and who can blame him?

A former general election candidate for the Brexit Party has stood down after it emerged that she believes she comes from the star Sirius and that aliens are already working with world governments.

She's copying her rival - the incumbent Labour MP - a one-time conspiracy theorist and believer of UFOs, who later realises that she comes from a race of aliens. I'll let you work it out. Wink

No, it was obviously the reincarnated horse!

DGRossetti · 04/11/2019 14:28

Sirius ? The dog star ?

Isn't that the one that Von Daniken wrote a load of bollocks about in the 1970s ?

Speaking of twat-charlatan-conmen, anyone seen Uri lately ?

FadingStar · 04/11/2019 14:31

Yes Fanny,,..she is always so exact in her speech and commands authority. Talks so much sense and genuinely gives a shit about people. She's not out for herself. Good to see SHF stand aside for her.

FadingStar · 04/11/2019 14:31

Oops...SF. Random H there.

“I will ensure that they bend out of all proportion to ensure that he never takes up residence there,” he wrote." Grin

I was just listening to WATO on radio 4 , and Stephen Dorrell was on - he is standing as a Lib Dem in Buckingham I believe , but was rather defending the Conservatives re the NHS and privatisation . Wasn't he the chair of the Health Select Committee as a Conservative?

BigChocFrenzy · 04/11/2019 14:33

I'm still stunned that Sinn Féin would stand down to help a Unionist, the widow of an RUC Chief Constable -
and to actually vote for her Shock

Wow, is NI sectarianism breaking up at last ?

The current Sinn Fein president seems so much more moderate than any of her predecessors
and reportedly the new leader of the traditional Unionist party is still considering standing a candidate against the DUP, even though this could let in a Nationalist.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2019/nov/04/general-election-news-latest-health-chief-urge-parties-not-to-use-nhs-as-political-weapon-live-news?page=with:block-5dc0227b8f08cb84c60a45a4#block-5dc0227b8f08cb84c60a45a4

Sinn Féin stands down in three seats to help remainers, including unionist Hermon
....
Sinn Fein president Mary Lou McDonald urged supporters to instead back the SDLPP^, the Alliance party and independent unionist Lady Sylvia Hermon respectively in those three seats.

BigChocFrenzy · 04/11/2019 14:35

One of the hallmarks of a progressive party, as opposed to a reactionary one (Labour LibDems and Tories note) is surely the willingness to look at all aspects of a situation and deciding on which tactic best supports the strategy.

The US and UK allying themselves with Russia/USSR being a similar example.

To be honest, if Sinn Fein or the SNP had candidates here in Edgbaston, I would be very interested to read theire manifestos ...

FadingStar · 04/11/2019 14:40

Its weird Fanny how she stands out for that reason. Among elected politicians ffs! 😖
