New thread.

General election 12th December 2019. Results out on Friday 13th. Unlucky day for some.

So this election is unusual in that it will focus primarily on Brexit and referendums with domestic issues tagged alongside, for some parties.

shutting dissenters down

I never get this, the thread has all shades of rosette voters, Leavers and Remainers with differing views what would you be dissenting against?

This thread has been running for years without needing imput from mnhq.
It's not needed now either.
Luckily we are all adults who can disagree and move on.

I have to leave these threads from time to time because often when I write something everybody disagrees with me, and often not very nicely, either.

Dont be disheartened Mother I barely say anything anyone agrees with but its still good to get your point heard

prettybird · 06/11/2019 09:16

I always look forward to your perspective Motheroffourdragons Thanks - don't necessarily always agree with you 100% (but close to that Wink) but you're always thoughtful Smile

And the converse is probably true - you probably don't always agree 100% with everything I say Wink

I find these threads useful to get other perspectives. They help me understand them better, even if I don't agree with them.

It's the "ploppers" and "mansplainers" that I have zero time for Angry. They are just seeking to disrupt and divert insightful discussions - because the spotlight of proper debate is not good for their vision of sunny uplands and unicorns - or even the continued possibility of No Deal (whether that's 1 February 2020 or 1 January 2021) and what that really means for the poorest and most vulnerable. Sad

Yes but look at what happens to Bear - every time she pops up?

Bear eally does get it in the neck off me and I do hate the fact that I react to quickly but I've played nice since cat asked me to chill my beans Grin

From what I can gather off Bears posts, and I'm sure youll correct me if Im wrong Bear but the crux of the Brexit issue is that its all Corbyns fault and unless we renounce Corbyn and suffer at the hands of No Deal albeit for a little bit the country shall never be healed, oh and its still Corbyns fault

JustAnotherPoster00 · 06/11/2019 09:23

Before Tory GE campaign has even officially launched:
-Tories caught out sharing doctored video of Keir Starmer
-Michael Gove's late night ranting and sharing of antisemitic tweets
-Jacob Rees-Mogg says those who perished in Grenfell fire did so because they lacked common sense

prettybird · 06/11/2019 09:24

I've semi agreed with, and defended, Bear on occasion (and with Louise Wink) Smile

But I've also challenged inconsistencies and illogicalities. I hope I've never been personal though.

I reserve my disgust and ire for people like Smug, Faragit and BJ and other charlatans politicians and commentators of that ilk.

Stunning interview with Gove on @BBCr4today:
‘What about Russia report?’
‘Corbyn.’
‘What about Islamophobia?’
‘Corbyn.’
‘What about Brexit?’
‘Corbyn.’

I lost a sock this morning 1 part of me thinks its the dog who likes stealing socks but theres another more likely solution that its Corbyn the sock stealing jam wearing commie that he is Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 06/11/2019 09:30

MN is the one of the most protected debate forums online
However, some people seem to feel very threatened and "pushed out" if many other posters express different views

I'm happy if 99 people post different views to mine
I've recvd a few personal attacks too, which is 100% not OK, but I still don't feel driven away, because it's the exception.

Most Westministenders are more leftwing and Remainy than I am, but I don't care

  • anyway it would be boring to debate with BigChoc clones, like snogging my own reflection.

Some of the most enjoyable interactions I've had on here are when poster00 and I are blasting away at each others views but never at each other personally

... and of course her sock decided to hide from a Corbynite that wanted to put it in a Gulag !

JustAnotherPoster00 · 06/11/2019 09:33

and of course her sock decided to hide from a Corbynite that wanted to put it in a Gulag !

I can no longer support these far left policies Grin

TheElementsSong · 06/11/2019 09:41

Whereas I don't give a shiny shit about Corbyn, yea or nay. I think he has been about as much use as a mouldy courgette for the past 4 years, when he could possibly have ameliorated the situation. I imagine that there are others who would be far better leaders of the Labour party. But I'm not going to be swanning about declaring that "I can't possibly sully my fingers by putting an X in the Labour box because Corbyn!" [delicate swooning emoji]

Similarly, I don't really give a shit about Swinson. She's not impressed me, and neither did her predecessors. But I'm also not going to be swanning about declaring that "I can't possibly sully my fingers by putting an X in the LibDems box because Swinson!" [delicate swooning emoji]

Ultimately for me it's about Brexit: the entire Brexit shitshow was conceived and birthed by the Tory party, and was further transmogrified into it's current grotesque, pustulating, foetid, malevolent, monstrous form by the Tory party. So fuck them.

My electoral priorities are:
(1) Brexit is Fucking Shite.
(2) The current Tory party are Fucking Shite.
(3) Everything else.

^^ What Elements said.
(I’m a long-standing natural LD who feels so let down by them, but will vote for them or even Labour if it seems tactically sensible.)

derxa · 06/11/2019 09:45

oh and its still Corbyns fault It really is. Grin

My ears were virtually burning! 😂

It’s not me who’s been reporting things BTW, I’ve taken a view to pretty much leave you too it TBH

I appreciate the supportive comments from posters above - I completely understand many of you don’t agree with me, and that’s the point of a discussion thread.

What is a problem is nonsense like the quote above, where others deliberately take the piss or dismiss others views

As with all these threads, if you only allow posts from people who agree with you and dismiss any other opinions, it does become a pointless echo chamber
