The Supreme Court case continues
(ruling possible Friday but likely Monday)

The new NI proposal is bollocks and Johnson didn't get why until it was discussed in Europe.

There was a press conference in Luxembourg which looks good for Johnson.

Johnsons approval ratings are up.

And we are making no obvious progress to anything but no deal...

The GDPR and flow of info is a bit scary. I haven’t got a full idea of what it means for my company. If I put personal information on a server shared between me and my colleagues in a EU office am I going i contravene something? Are data for our payrolls shared? I bet they are, but also with the State

We got an email today telling us to look at the Gov website.

Apparently we aren't supposed to stockpile medicines and make 'alternative arrangements' about data if it is transferred to Europe....

bellinisurge · 20/09/2019 20:03

@cherin , there is guidance on GDPR and a No Deal Brexit on the ICO website.

JeSuisPoulet · 20/09/2019 20:04

cho yet the leavers thing EU will simply send us meds if we are short...go figure!

Re: Christianity - the Leave With No Dealer' on my fb was a faux Christian - had his kid baptised but doesn't go more than once a year (if I'm generous!). He was posting evangelical shite about reducing abortion terms and abolishing abortion altogether.

Doesn't seem to care he may have to pay ??? for a tomato for his 2 yr old though Hmm

JeSuisPoulet · 20/09/2019 20:18

How are the ardent Brexiteer No Dealer's 'dealing' with the apparent about turn of the govt on suddenly wanting a deal? I'm not on fb any more so don't have access to my sources Wink

JeSuisPoulet · 20/09/2019 20:22

I'm guessing this is timely too - just in case many leavers (as I have had the pleasure of hearing) think about raiding their local farms in case of shortages Guardian - woman killed by cattle. Maybe that would be Darwin Award territory after the last 3 years?

Hasenstein · 20/09/2019 20:23

This from Tim Farron in response to Emily Thornberry comparing the LibDems to the Taliban:

@timfarron
Come on Emily, if we really were like a Middle East terrorist group, don’t you think Jeremy would’ve invited us to a conference fringe meeting before now?

NoToast · 20/09/2019 20:29

Jesuispoulet you're gloating over the death of an elderly woman killed in what must have been terrifying and painful circumstances.

Fuck you.

Outsomnia · 20/09/2019 20:40

That tweet from David Blevins had me laughing out loud. Real Fr. Ted moment there, hilarious. Just in case anyone missed it as posted above by RedToothBrush....

twitter.com/skydavidblevins/status/1175049001126768647

But at this stage there is nothing more Ireland can do except appeal to a higher power now, and keep their wonderful sense of humour.

JeSuisPoulet · 20/09/2019 20:42

NoToast Gloating? I was saying that it wouldn't amaze me if the media have reported on this to ensure people don't start storming farms in case of food shortgages. Nearly every leaver I know has mentioned they "live near a farm so will be OK". I didn't intend to suggest it was something to poke fun at, on the contrary. Apologies if I upset anyone.

Runningintothesunset · 20/09/2019 20:43

Thanks Cherin. I tried reading the GDPR section the other day. I ended up at the hideous editable agreements that were absurdly long and then gave up for another day

cherin · 20/09/2019 20:48

Thank you all! I will try to have a bit of bedtime reading with all the links, but I’ll also forward to someone higher up (pass the parcel...after all, I did study to be an engineer, not an accountant or a lawyer ;-) even if the legalese is very fascinating!!)

The thing that struck a chord with everybody was the understanding that suddenly, by becoming a third country, we will have to deal not with ONE but with 27 other countries and 27 different regulations.
Example
Whilst we are Eu members, you can go to a trade fair and do or receive paid training and you’re free, no visa, no fancy vat, no calculating the days you spend there.
Because we’re members, we are free to do it.
Post Brexit, whilst we will be covered by a Eu/U.K. agreement on free travel for business meetings, holidays etc up to 90 days in every 180days period, things like “going there to provide a service” or “going there to study” is actually regulated in different way. I’m thinking about an example...maybe this...You can set up a stall at the knitting&stitching fair of Stuttgart and advertise your brand of sewing machine, it’s one thing. But if you also do lessons on the sewing machine it’s another thing. Or for one country it might count as a different thing only if you’re paid, but for another not.
It’s the number of permutations of possibl errors that one can do, in good faith, without knowing the rules, that’s inconceivable for me..:.

bellinisurge · 20/09/2019 20:49

Go for the ICO one. Uk focussed. From the uk regulator.

(I do like my craft shows ;-)

BigChocFrenzy · 20/09/2019 20:52

Confirmed: BJ deal is bollocks

Washington Post reporter has the memo sent by the EU Commission to EU diplomatic staff::

"The United Kingdom confirmed that the proposed concepts do not amount to legally operational solutions, and would have to be developed during the transitional period."

Also, the proposals do NOT satisfy the objectives of the backstop

QAriès✔@QuentinAries

BREAKING -

The memo just sent to EU diplomats. Still no progress then.

Beth Rigby@BethRigby

Labour source tells me it’s “highly likely” that Tom Watson will lose his job as deputy leader after Lansman move tonight.

Internal war trumps fighting the ruling party? ...”They hate Tom more than they hate the Tories”
#Labourconference2019

Henry Zeffman@hzeffman

Lansman only needs simple majority at tomorrow’s meeting to get abolition of deputy leader to conference floor.

He fell just short of the 2/3rds needed to defy chair ruling motion out of order tonight.
Tomorrow it’s in order

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/09/2019 21:27

I have some very specific 'Get Ready to Leave' questions that I can't raise here and can't find any information about on the Gov website. Where do I go for information?

BigChocFrenzy · 20/09/2019 21:28

He's shit as a SPAD, but he's hot shit at winning referendums

Harry Cole@MrHarryCole

Cummings told spad meeting tonight that they would win a second referendum

BigChocFrenzy · 20/09/2019 21:29

Only other place is the EU site, kitten, links upthread - but that is only peripherally for UK businesses
