Next week we will have a new PM. He will be called Boris Johnson unless something very odd has happened.

His first 72 hours will be 'interesting' especially if today's events are anything to go by.

His Cabinet is sure to be a horror show. It was noticable who abstained today - they don't think they will be in a Johnson Cabinet and clearly don't want to be.

To move forward Johnson must be able to survive a rebellion and a Queen's speech before now and 31st October.

And be able to unit his party in order to find a way forward.

And whilst parliament has voted to block proroguing parliament, it could still be dissolved if there is a vote of no confidence.

And what happens if Johnson loses a vote? Will he manage to become PM? Will there be a GE.

All the signs are that next week is going to be a hell of a ride.

Enjoy your weekend.

Rory Stewart has resigned.

DarlingNikita · 23/07/2019 13:30

I think Hammond said he was waiting until either May or Johnson went to see Brenda tomorrow.

MmeBufo · 23/07/2019 13:31

Not yet tobee. There are several more to come I think

Not David Mundell apparently.

The80sweregreat · 23/07/2019 13:35

'First hates 'with Arlene and Boris
He will come off worse.

cherin · 23/07/2019 13:39

The education minister has resigned too

tomhardyfan · 23/07/2019 13:43

Oh dear he's going to be our next leader god help us all Grin

SistemaAddict · 23/07/2019 13:43

Where are you all hearing of the resignations? Am trying to find them

The80sweregreat · 23/07/2019 13:47

Arlene and the DUP are hoping that we crash out without a deal. With Boris at the helm this looks likely. Of course they won't be too hostile to start with!

MmeBufo · 23/07/2019 13:48

Twitter, Bercows

QueenMabby · 23/07/2019 13:48

Presumably these resignations are ministerial rather than party? I suspect they’re jumping before they're pushed.

Is Michel Barnier trolling BoJo? Wink

@MichelBarnier
We look forward to working constructively w/ PM @BorisJohnson when he takes office, to facilitate the ratification of the Withdrawal Agreement and achieve an orderly #Brexit. We are ready also to rework the agreed Declaration on a new partnership in line with #EUCO guidelines.

Grin

Nice wee slap down with a reminder that whatever BoJo might have said during his campaign Hmm, the WA stands and the only thing that can be altered (within EU rules) is the PD. Grin

prettybird · 23/07/2019 14:02

BoJo is also the gift what keeps giving to Scottish independence Grin

SistemaAddict · 23/07/2019 14:16

Pmsl! But crying.

Oakenbeach · 23/07/2019 14:25

I heard on r2 that the dup tweeted they are looking forward to working with him. So they are on side it seems.

Of course they are at this point.... What could they possibly have to gain by pulling the plug at this moment?

BigChocFrenzy · 23/07/2019 14:27

Bon Voyage, born

I had a lovely day cruise along the Rhine yesterday
34C, but I was sipping iced Apfelschorle while watching the castles and vineyards go by

Iambuffy · 23/07/2019 14:38

Well.
That's that then.

Jux · 23/07/2019 14:42

Listening to Swinson on BBC now, my heart sinks lower and lower.

I think party politics is the worst thing we have now. It would be nice if all parties were disbanded and we just voted for people in constituencies. Sick to death of it all.

BigChocFrenzy · 23/07/2019 14:50

I watched Bojo's speech on one of the gym tellies - interesting that it was shown on German TV

The news sound is always off in the gym, so I just saw his mouth moving, which was probably the best way to get through that crap

bellinisurge · 23/07/2019 14:54

Please do what you can to make sure you only call him Johnson (or Boris Johnson). Anything else perpetuates this fiction that he is some sort of sleb phenomenon.

BigChocFrenzy · 23/07/2019 14:56

Germany has had social care insurance since 1995

and we have a % added on to basic income tax - did he nick the idea from Germany ? Hmm

Everyone pays though, even pensioners and self-employed,
so the entire population is covered and it is accepted as fair.

It's 1.525% paid by workers, equalled by employer contribution
Pensioners, self-employed etc pay both contributions, i.e. 3.05%

BigChocFrenzy · 23/07/2019 14:57

oh and those of us without DC pay an extra 0.25% !

ListeningQuietly · 23/07/2019 14:58
