Quote from another article....US justice is so crooked.

Can you imagine a normal person being allowed out of prison during the day to carry on running their business?

How could anyone think a 13 month, day release sentence can possibly be enough for sexually abusing dozens of underage girls?

"By 2007, Epstein was facing a potential federal indictment for sexually abusing dozens of girls as young as 14 between 1999 and 2007, directing others to abuse them and paying employees to bring victims to him, according to court filings.
However, Epstein struck a deal in which he pleaded guilty to Florida state charges of soliciting and procuring a person under 18 for prostitution. He served a 13-month sentence in county jail, during which he was allowed to leave during the day to go to his office."

Why not ? Even on these boards there's someone angling to get out of a ban for doing 108 on a motorway because of the "hardship" it would cause. Which I naively assumed was the point of punishment.

Funny how no one is researching using AI to determine court sentences, isn't it ? Not because it's not possible But you'd have to know how to code the learning model for "white < black", "rich < poor" and so on. Also the system would have to be able to deliver the shite some judges do in sentencing which would probably cause people to question the "intelligence" bit in "AI".

DGRossetti · 08/07/2019 17:37

Is it just me, or are the reasons to be ashamed and embarrassed to be British simply piling up faster and faster. What the fuck has happened to this country ?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48911446

Allowing children to be used as informants in criminal investigations is lawful, the High Court has ruled.

...

And this section made me physically ill. Who on earth is going to step up and defend our child-raping enabling police on this one ?

However, concerns over the use of juveniles were raised in the House of Lords last year with the case of a 17-year-old girl who was recruited to spy on a man who had been exploiting her sexually.

The peers heard that the girl continued to be exploited sexually while she was deployed by police.

If that's the Britain Farage, Widdecombe and their Nazi apologist camp followers want us to become, then there will be blood on the streets. I will die trying to stop this abomination going any further.

I'm off to cry now.

Hmmm.
Big mates with prince andrew...

Anyone read Joe Country, the latest in Mick Herron's Slough House (Slow Horses) series? Seems very pertinent in this context. As well as in terms of May, Johnson et al. Made me wonder how he gets away with it (Herron, I mean Wink).

BigChocFrenzy · 08/07/2019 18:31

DG That's shocking, especially the 17-year-old child prostituted by the police to spy on her abuser
Bastards Angry

DGRossetti · 08/07/2019 18:55

That's shocking, especially the 17-year-old child prostituted by the police to spy on her abuser

Presumably they had a line somewhere ? Blowjob OK ? Handjob OK, but full on PIV - well use the code word ?

Sorry but there really are no words for a society - a society we are all supposed to be part of that could countenance using a child in a operation where it's known they will be sexually abused. It also speaks volumes that a judge (male, of course) sees NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS.

I'll be honest, I've stayed off posting this in news, as I genuinely can't summon the strength. That CHILD is someones daughter - they can't even buy a drink or smoke. But apparently they're OK as a lure and informant.

I don't think I ever need explain my ambivalence about the UK police for the rest of my life. No one who reads that could possibly get to the end of the article and go "Yup, seems about right to me."

A child FFS. A child. Fuck Brexit. Fuck trans fucking rights. Where the fuck is the outrage and burning placards over this sick, sick, sick story. Which - don't forget - has the official seal of approval.

There, I've started crying again.

ElenadeClermont · 08/07/2019 18:56

So is Labour for remain now, or is it still a question of how a committee would define remain?

StripeyChina · 08/07/2019 19:09

DGRosetti
It's not quite the same I know but in the Edinburgh saunas the Police are very big 'customers' (only they don't pay...)
(The other very busy week is during the Church of Scotland Convention)
I've worked with lots of teenage survivors who have been told by the Police that they were 'complicit' in their abuse. And some who have been overly 'close' to the Police dealing with their cases (as abused under 18's, usually under 16's)

Outrage is the only reasonable response. Thanks for your posts.

I hope Epstein gets a big sentence this time but he has powerful pals.

1tisILeClerc · 08/07/2019 19:15

DGR
Of course I agree with you, truly awful way to proceed.

Are the BBC trying to tell us something? Articles on Deutche Bank shedding staff, and how to survive a chemical weapons attack.

LonelyTiredandLow · 08/07/2019 19:46

I've not caught up since my last post but have had one of those days where my phone wouldn't log in and I've been wanting to post!

£10mil fraud from Universal Credit - how will this be shown when we look at the next annual pie chart? Will it be added to "Welfare" or will it be in a new sliver under "Fraud"? I'm so angry at the system being rolled out before it was fully tested, purely to cut people's benefits, then costing the taxpayer likely more than they were saving in the first place!

I also wanted to comment on TM's first response to the leak - something along the lines of she didn't agree with all of what was said about Trump Grin

ElenadeClermont · 08/07/2019 19:51

Some of my friends work / worked on child sexual exploitation cases. It is just awful. I have no words.

Iambuffy · 08/07/2019 19:59

DG
Nothing I can say, but I will join you at the barricades, my friend x

LonelyTiredandLow · 08/07/2019 20:03

Just caught up - am WTF about the Police - heard it on the news but they didn't share that gem about the 17yo. It did cross my mind that the spate of child killings we keep hearing about may have prompted the case.

Also wondering where the Epstien case is going - could BJ and Farage be incriminated further on? I was (perhaps fancifully) wondering if the recent argument at his flat might have been him having prior knowledge of the case about to become public knowledge...just speculation of course.

Iambuffy · 08/07/2019 20:05

I see the results of child sexual exploitation most weeks at the foodbank.

Groomed by older men, married at 16, then the physical and sexual violence starts. Normally got 2 or 3 kids by then.

Young males abused by family members and then kicked out when they no longer look adequately pre- pubescent.

Diagnoses of clinical depression bpd, schizo effective disorder, substance abuse.

I could go on.

Imreallynotpostingthistime · 08/07/2019 20:47

According to the Guardian, Corbyn wasn't present at Labour/TU meeting today. Still making his own policy decisions, hmm?

BigChocFrenzy · 08/07/2019 21:27

Trump states he disapproves of our PM and that she had made a mess, not doing as she said
Following his advice would create a far worse mess

Where are all those Brexiters who were furious at Obama for just stating what a Democrat POTUS would do, not insulting the elected UK govt ? Hmm

Tom Newton Dunn@tnewtondunn

Now Trump sticks it to Theresa May as well as Kim Darroch... hurt, just a bit
........
Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump

I have been very critical about the way the U.K. and Prime Minister Theresa May handled Brexit.
What a mess she and her representatives have created.

I told her how it should be done, but she decided to go another way.

I do not know the Ambassador, but he is not liked or well....

....thought of within the U.S.
We will no longer deal with him.

The good news for the wonderful United Kingdom is that they will soon have a new Prime Minister.

While I thoroughly enjoyed the magnificent State Visit last month, it was the Queen who I was most impressed with!

DGRossetti · 08/07/2019 21:35

Trump states he disapproves of our PM and that she had made a mess, not doing as she said

Told you so. Months ago.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/07/2019 21:39

Well yes, he thinks everyone should do what he says
May didn't, so she's stupid
Now he's happy because he thinks BJ will obey him

BigChocFrenzy · 08/07/2019 21:53

Sexism, vandalism and bullying: inside the Boris Johnson-era Bullingdon Club

He was the worst of the "elite" that Brexiters claim to be against, trashing the belongings of the plebs, treating them with contempt

www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/jul/07/oxford-bullingdon-club-boris-johnson-sexism-violence-bullying-culture

Peregrina · 08/07/2019 22:17

I read the Bullingdon club article in yesterday's paper. What I don't understand is why the University didn't charge them for the wanton damage done and immediately send them down. OK they would still have their Eton connections, most of them, but being sent down without graduating wouldn't be an especially good recommendation.Thank goodness the whole stupidity of Bullingdon seems out of fashion with today's undergraduates.

It also occurs to me that increasingly Public Schools are changing - there are very few full boarding schools left, so the little boys despatched as 8 year olds to boarding Prep and then a boarding senior school and have to learn to stifle their emotions to survive, are likely to become fewer.

QueenOfThorns · 08/07/2019 22:23

I do not know the Ambassador

How can the POTUS not know the ambassador? Don’t ambassadors get invited to state functions and suchlike? And hold receptions (with Ferrero Rocher)?

Iambuffy · 08/07/2019 22:32

Gawd.
Don't mention ferrero rocher! 🤢
Ds1 had to make a model of a greek trireme in year 5.
I ate 2 boxes of the bloody things to get the gold paper for the shields...
I mused afterwards (as I mainlined Gavison) that should have just gone to rymans...

LonelyTiredandLow · 08/07/2019 23:06

So now POTUS says they refuse to deal with him, it's TM who gets to pick the next one, right? Please tell me it isn't Fox or some other Brexiteer twot? I can see US is now going to do all it can to give Farage power. Democracy indeed.
