Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I don't understand why replacing May might mean her deal gets accepted this week?

Yes May's deal should be voted for on its own merits but this is just the divorce bit. There's at least a decade of negotiating and trade deals ahead and this wrangling (ie May steps down in order to get the deal through) is all about who gets to take the reins and shape our future relationship with the EU. Obviously, those in the ERG are keen to steer things their way. Gove has already indicated, and not too subtley at that, that the WA is just a means to an end and we don't necessarily have to stand by what we have agreed upon with the EU post-Brexit, as we will have already left Shock. He has absolutely no integrity whatsoever.
