A thread for sharing details of our stashes: what we have, what we need, good hiding places and all sorts of hints and tips to help prepare for shortages in the event of a no deal brexit.

Belated thanks to Bellini and others who answered, I'm not going to go into debt, but just trying to be prepared as I can.

I'd love to be able to call a false alarm because my kitchen is at Christmas full levels, and I have boxes in the spare room, and it feels cluttered and messy.

Bloody government, their inability to get to a decision is doing my head in. I would just rather know what is coming even if it's a no deal crash out shitshow. At least I could plan...

Perhaps I have some sort of control freak issues Grin

bellinisurge · 15/03/2019 21:00

👍

Perhaps I have some sort of control freak issues

I do suffer from this! 😂

MintyCedric · 15/03/2019 21:40

I'm not stopping stashing until we know for sure what's happening.

At this rate that'll probably be midnight on 28th March!

anniehm · 15/03/2019 22:00

The lady in Asda on Monday told me they had extra staff rota'd for later in the week because if no deal was voted for they expected to be deluged, as it happens the main problem was a deluge of rain that flooded the store!

smogsville · 15/03/2019 22:19

thanks @Cloudtree

JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/03/2019 08:33

Has anyone added lemon and lime juice? A bit like those weird jif Lemons but a bit more practical and about 38 pence each.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/03/2019 08:34

Yep. We got those the other day!

bellinisurge · 16/03/2019 08:37

I tend to have those in. I really like a squirt of lime juice in iced water when I'm working.
Don't forget the pancakes on Jif Lemon Day as the advert used to say.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/03/2019 08:41

We always have lemon but added lime the other day as we make Thai curries quite often.

BlackeyedGruesome · 16/03/2019 09:01

Two lemon juice bottles for hummus making. I have three lemons left from Shrove Tuesday as well. Aldi supersix.

BlackeyedGruesome · 16/03/2019 09:04

What have you got left to do?

I have booked the car in for work next week.

Yet again going to try to clean and tidy the flat to see where I still have space.

bellinisurge · 16/03/2019 09:57

@BlackeyedGruesome , dh and I have our sights set on our cupboard under our stairs. I would say it is like Monica's mystery cupboard from Friends but that would give the incorrect impression that I'm a tidy person generally.Grin

Cloudtree · 16/03/2019 10:08

we have lots of lemon juice in since pancakes are one of our main ways of using up the six eggs we get every day.

SparklySneakers · 16/03/2019 11:25

I'm just writing my shopping list for a Tesco trip on Tuesday. Until I know for sure what's happening then I'll carry on gathering things. Price rises worry me. 40% on cheese when we eat a fair amount is worrying.
I need to look through the treats stash and check dates as sure some are May and June.
I'll just be happier when we know what happening and can plan properly.

My understairs cupboard got sorted a few months ago. For a week or so you could walk into it and stand up, no longer. Big boxes of cereal need to go somewhere.

I can honestly say to anyone who asks that I am absolutely not stashing beans under the stairs. they are in the kitchen cupboard and other places

SparklySneakers · 16/03/2019 11:48

I've got good dates on most things. Only 4 things are dated May. The rest are July onwards. July dated stuff is for Easter anyway.
Crisps are in a plastic box hidden away so will check those later on.
My ds is 4 and in nursery and I'm using this as a good opportunity to practice counting and number recognition.

The silver lining to the Brexit no deal cloud.

Moorfields · 16/03/2019 19:43

I've been storing things in old toy boxes, hat boxes, suitcases, backs of wardrobes & under the bed.

Easilyflattered · 16/03/2019 19:54

Bought a few more bits with the weekly shop today. I like when Lidl has the various foreign food weeks, this week is Spain so they had tinned stuffed peppers, olives, chorizo and other exciting spam alternatives.

Are you folks hiding food or are you just trying to tuck it all away? Mines all just dumped in the spare room.

BlackeyedGruesome · 16/03/2019 19:55

I am hiding from the children. And out of sight to keep small flat looking cluttered rather than hoarder

BlackeyedGruesome · 16/03/2019 19:58

You are lucky to have a spare room.

I think some people are storing out of sight of cheeky fuckers who may come a begging and be hard to resist.

Easilyflattered · 16/03/2019 20:23

Point taken about the spare room. Space was at a premium in the last house yet somehow I've forgotten that already.

I will feel a bit miffed if I feel obliged to feed begging CFs. My mother's an eternal optimist/blind to what's in front of her but I will have to feed her.

I used to live overseas in a country where the civil defence encouraged a three day emergency store cupboard, nobody got hysterical about it, it was just considered sensible. We are less than 14 days from a possible crash out and I still think a lot of people haven't even given it a moment's thought. The mentality baffles me.

S1naidSucks · 16/03/2019 20:36

Easilyflattered, can you trust your mum not to tell everyone else what a smart/wonderful/generous daughter she has, who has ‘got loads of stuff’? I will be helping some of those that genuinely can’t prep, but I will be telling them that it’s just a couple of extra things I got in.

BlackeyedGruesome · 16/03/2019 22:11

You need to learn to tell truths that do not give the whole picture. Mine is of course I am not stockpiling beans under the stairs...

Thus implying I am not stockpiling, and truthful as the beans are not under the stairs.

I am also not stockpiling under my bed or the sofa etc. Not got food on top of the wardrobe... Lots of true statements.

If you give stuff away it is an extra tin, ( the other 10 are not extra as you need them)

Autism and pedantry are useful sometimes.
