A thread for sharing details of our stashes: what we have, what we need, good hiding places and all sorts of hints and tips to help prepare for shortages in the event of a no deal brexit.

@Easilyflattered , don't spend your savings. Don't go in the red for this. Slowly. Proportionally. What suits you and your budget and your circumstances.

Cloudtree · 14/03/2019 12:51

I'm still going. The only thing thats certain at the moment is that there is no certainty..

Aberforthsgoat · 14/03/2019 17:53

I’m going to get a bit more cheese and butter and then I think I’m done for a bit aside from picking up the odd extra thing here and there. My final online shop that’s just for stockpile is coming on Monday and then I have pretty much run out of room and hiding places!
I think if I had to and got a bit creative, I could feed us for about 2-3 months providing we had water and power.

BlackeyedGruesome · 14/03/2019 18:08

Ideally I would like some more chopped tomatoes as we use quite a lot of them just got to find somewhere to put them though. I am working on another idea. I can use 8 tins a week so they do not last long.

PrawnOfCreation · 14/03/2019 18:16

FIL is the best. Got us a chest freezer! Second hand but free. First freezer is chocca with sensible stuff like veg, meat, butter, cheese. I'm tempted to make this one half sensible batch cooking and half ice cream, vodka and junk food like crispy pancakes.

BlackeyedGruesome · 14/03/2019 18:25

The living room is packed full of stuff in many places. Got room for a box of shreddies a bottle of sparkling water as both the children and I drink this. Maybe some packs of sunflower or pumpkin
seeds for cereal and salads.

The kitchen is nearly full. Got room for another four or five tins of tomatoes under the cupboards and a little bit of space in the fridge and freezer.

DD has a small room so not a lot of space in there. I can squeeze some of her sanpro in. Ds's room is supposed to be getting decorated so do not want to put a lot in there as the plan is to empty it completely to get a new carpet. I may stash some chopped tomatoes in there if I am desperate and use those first. I am not exactly making a lot of progress.

BlackeyedGruesome · 14/03/2019 18:30

Great news prawn. mainly sensible stuff and then things that make life more enjoyable.

SparklySneakers · 14/03/2019 19:17

I'm thinking after today's votes that I've got another week to stock up the last of the things I need.

OP posts:
OogieMcBoogie · 14/03/2019 20:34

Do you all think stockpiling and prepping can go on hold now for a few weeks? I’m almost ready, but wondering now if I need to rush or not? If we don’t leave until June at the earliest I am less anxious.

OogieMcBoogie · 14/03/2019 20:35

Sorry just seen this was asked earlier! Blush

LeesPostersAreInFrames · 14/03/2019 21:10

(Name changed regular) in away from the uk at the moment and barely following current events. Is there any sense of wtf the recent votes actually mean, in terms of what's next?

ColeHawlins · 14/03/2019 21:16

We're either looking at a twelve week or a two year extension. Apparently.

Rhubarbisevil · 14/03/2019 21:29

Was it this thread or another thread which said that if one country vetoes the extension then we leave on 29th with no deal? So it still isn’t over.

LeesPostersAreInFrames · 14/03/2019 21:35

Oh. Okay. So potentially good news but nothing certain still. I mean it's not like we've pissed off a good number of EU countries or anything.

Great.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/03/2019 21:38

It still isn't over.

BlackeyedGruesome · 14/03/2019 23:47

Hopefully the request for an extension will stop the panic buyers and I can get ds's shreddies and a few last bits. After that it is keeping topped up and rotated.

Cloudtree · 15/03/2019 08:21

For the freezer filling do use the library method. It makes a massive difference. I have managed to store 3 times as much meat. It is now routine to get the meat home, take it out of the packaging, put it into a ziplock bag , flatten it and squeeze out the air. Then freeze flat. It also defrosts much faster.

I have also been rinsing the meat trays and using them for seed planting. Make do and mend...

NoWordForFluffy · 15/03/2019 09:21

I've just put my third lot of eggs in to freeze, so that's 36 now. I'm considering whether to do a fourth lot.

Loo roll and sanpro are now the last bits.

I've no idea what's going on with all the uncertainty. It's driving me up the wall. I hate not having control.

Cloudtree · 15/03/2019 10:32

In the words of Dory "just keep swimming.."

we could still crash out yet.

smogsville · 15/03/2019 10:42

I'm clearly a bit of an amateur - can you freeze butter? the spreadable stuff or the normal blocks for cooking with? or both.

Cloudtree · 15/03/2019 10:45

You can freeze butter and spreadables. My freezer has loads of anchor spreadable in it at the moment since it keeps going on offer, is cheaper than any brand of real butter when on offer and as far as the DC are concerned they can't taste any difference.

NopeNi · 15/03/2019 12:08

Members on the 48% group on Facebook seem to think No Deal is more likely than ever before. Definitely not a time to get complacent - we'll know for sure in a few weeks.

SparklySneakers · 15/03/2019 12:22

I've just bought 2 packs of crumble topping and poppy seeds for my bread. Love a good bit of opium on my toast Grin

I'm not stopping stashing until we know for sure what's happening. I've done most of it anyway but carrying on getting the odd thing.
The gp messed up my prescription and I've ended up with 2 of everything so my drugs stash is very healthy for which I'm very grateful.

I have managed to get another 8 tins of chopped tomatoes, which is one week's worth. put away under units. That is full now.

I am going through and estimating how long each type of thing will last and trying to even things up a bit.

I have packed four more loo rolls into a cupboard by splitting the packet. Also 8 bars of soap gone in the little gap. That is nearly full. May get two packs of sanpro in.

The deodorants and sanpro have been put away. Another full space.

I have got some long life packs of beetroot from Aldi they are on supersix dated August I think.

Also topped up frozen veg. And fresh veg I will freeze in meal bases to add the dry/ tinned ingredients later.
