A thread for sharing details of our stashes: what we have, what we need, good hiding places and all sorts of hints and tips to help prepare for shortages in the event of a no deal brexit.

I topped up my candle and tea light stores, have a hurricane kettle, terracotta flower pots and baking trays to make small heaters, plus torches, batteries and camping glow stick things.

It's mostly stuff I assembled after bad weather power cuts a few years ago. I'm not going to go further than that, I think.

We do also have a gas hob and an open gas fire. So we'd manage for a bit.

bellinisurge · 25/03/2019 14:05

I don't think no deal Brexit will lead to power cuts unless you are in NI.
But as a general prepper, I have that point covered anyway.

Thanks for those replies.

It is useful to have a backup plan for power cuts water cuts etc. These can happen randomly anyway. Eg some random digger driver digs through a pipe/ high winds in storms/ sudden increase in large construction traffic over ancient ( built sometime before the 1200s) roads collapsing the sewers/ pipes. There are cobbles under the tarmac don't you know.

NoWordForFluffy · 25/03/2019 18:45

Yep, our cobbles often appear due to the state of the roads!

Anybody still adding to stocks?

It took me a good while way too long to realise why my grocery bills were so high recently, I've been stocking up, duuh! Blush

bellinisurge · 31/03/2019 19:24

As suits us. As usual. Actually needed to go into it for household stuff today.

Sturmundcalm · 31/03/2019 19:48

i reorganised mine on friday night (cause it was taking over a room it was so chaotic). haven't added loads but picked up a couple of things yesterday and probably will do a couple of bigger shops later this week.

NoWordForFluffy · 31/03/2019 20:00

I peeped under the bed as I'd forgotten what I had!

I'll get a few bits when I get paid a week on Monday (cheese, snacks, teabags and tuna) but otherwise I've no bloody room! 😂

NoWordForFluffy · 31/03/2019 20:01

Oh, and sadly the Kit Kat Chunkies didn't make it. Three times! 🙈🙈🙈

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/03/2019 20:21

I'm still on stock rotation rather than increasing our storage. It's a good job Brexit didn't happen on Friday as we ran out of ice cream yesterday.

LeesPostersAreInFrames · 31/03/2019 20:34

Yeah several times my chocolate hadn't made it...

Whatthefoxgoingon · 31/03/2019 21:06

I’m only replacing what we use now. Rotating stock.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 31/03/2019 21:07

Chocolate never makes it into the brexit stock, let alone survive in it Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 31/03/2019 22:53

I have some chocolate in there. Just not the Chunky Kit Kats!

BlackeyedGruesome · 01/04/2019 13:36

I am going to do the fridge later.

Naan bread had a longish date, also need to pick up part baked bread. Hoping for more wraps with long dates.

Had to break into my stash of flour for food technology as dd was ill and could not shop.

BercowsSilkTie · 02/04/2019 07:27

Well after that shit show last night I'm off to Tesco to get more things for my stockpile Sad

BlackeyedGruesome · 02/04/2019 07:41

Thursdays job. more shopping.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 02/04/2019 07:45

Me too.

Also need to work out what my mum is doing as she had an operation a few weeks ago and still can't drive so is reliant on friends to get her things. Might do an online shop for her. It's either that or take a car load of food to her.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 02/04/2019 07:46

(my mum is 3 hours away so not just around the corner, but could go there and back at the weekend)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/04/2019 07:56

Robert Peston thinks we are heading for No Deal :(

BercowsSilkTie · 02/04/2019 08:11

@havingtochangeusernameagain I've got a huge carrier bag full of stuff for my 79 year old mum that I've been slowly gathering for her. She's got her own small stockpile but not enough for me to relax about her. I just keep sneaking the odd thing into my trolley when she's not looking and then keep it here.

BercowsSilkTie · 02/04/2019 09:31

Dd1 tells me her dad and his gf haven't got anything extra in. They are a family of NINE ffs!

Cloudtree · 02/04/2019 09:32

I've just cracked open some brexit ginger nuts.. I also think we're heading for no deal. Very nervous since due to the change of dates DH and the DSs will now be in France on 12th April.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 02/04/2019 09:32

Robert Peston has been saying that for weeks. Doesn't mean he's not right, but it's nothing new.
