A thread for sharing details of our stashes: what we have, what we need, good hiding places and all sorts of hints and tips to help prepare for shortages in the event of a no deal brexit.

I've topped up my pet food supplies. They are a lot less flexible about eating than us.

SparklySneakers · 21/03/2019 22:46

I am so so grateful for my stash right now.

The shops have definitely been busier this week. Petrol station/shop was very busy today too at 9.30 which I've never known before.

Did my weekly Aldi trip this morning before 9. Chilled and uneventful as normal. Loo roll on sale.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/03/2019 10:51

You may be some time putting that away, Minty!

MintyCedric · 22/03/2019 11:44

I'm still going! Haven't got a massive kitchen etc and had a friend stay over last night at short notice (and DD poorly in the middle of the night) so have had to spend the last 90 minutes playing food Tetris! Have also portioned out meat, cheese, butter before freezing.

Just the backup bags to go away in the garage now, but I'm having a coffee break first Brew

MintyCedric · 22/03/2019 11:45

In case that sounds weird...I had planned to clean and reorganize all my storage space last night...then this morning, and between visiting friend and sleeping in, it didn't happen.

MintyCedric · 22/03/2019 13:40

All done. I reckon we can go 6 weeks if we have to, and I have 7 weeks of prescription meds and 3 months of otc hayfever meds.

If we go until 12th April I'll add some more tinned meat, pasta, rice and treats over the next couple of weeks.

Is anyone anticipating issues with energy and water supplies? I'm assuming things won't break down to that extent.

bellinisurge · 22/03/2019 14:31

@MintyCedric , I'm not assuming power/water problems withBrexit. I'm a general prepper so I have that covered anyway. But no, unless you are in NI power is unlikely to be a Brexit problem.

ifonly4 · 22/03/2019 14:51

OhYouBadBadKitten - glad the pets are high priority. I'm not into stockpiling but do have a couple of extra packs of toilet rolls and tins of kidney beans, chickpeas and tomatoes, and extra coffee and tea. However, the boys (cats) have a stockpile of sixteen boxes of Felix and enough dry for a couple of monthsSmile.

MintyCedric · 22/03/2019 15:16

bellini I have a camping gaz stove, 4 bottles of gas, a camping kettle and metric fuckton of tealights anyway, so I don't think I'll worry too much beyond that.

I've not noticed that where I am. Both my local supermarkets were quite quiet, the shelves were fine and the only reason my local petrol station ran out of petrol was because the one down the road is closed for refurbishment. It was up and running again very quickly.

The only thing I would say is that I did notice that the bottled water stocks were lower than usual.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/03/2019 16:05

I've not noticed any unusual purchasing or empty shelves here, and I've been everywhere! It's probably just passing me by.

BlackeyedGruesome · 22/03/2019 20:39

I have managed to get another 20 tins under the stairs. 3 butter beans, some peaches, kidney beans, rice pudding and chopped tomatoes. Also three packs of stuffing.

DD has gone vegetarian. After I have stashed 12 tins of tuna for her. Grr. Sofewer fishfingers bought and more veggie sausages.

Cloudtree · 23/03/2019 12:02

DS1 has spent the morning sorting out batteries, recharging those that need recharging and charging up all the powerbanks "just in case"

BadlyAgedMemes · 23/03/2019 13:55

Good thinking, Cloud. I've just checked the power bank, too, and will check the rechargable batteries. We always get them all mixed up, which is very frustrating when you need to change the batteries on anything. (I do have some packs of single use ones just in case, too, but they're not in every day use).

All very calm in shops round here today. Aldi was low on UHT milk, but they often are. I was just buying normal, boring shit, and replacing several things I'd needed from my storage in the past week. I bought an extra gin to hide (a raspberry one).

I'm chopping and freezing some onions today. We have some stupidly tiny freezer bags that were too tiny for their intended purpose, but just right for freezing single, chopped onions in the small spaces in between other stuff in the freezer. I'm partly thinking of stockpiling here, but also have a lot of onions that are starting to go a bit soft or to sprout, and want to salvage them without actually having to batch cook.

@BlackeyedGruesome - I've stashed a couple of "just add water and cook" nut roasts. Not everyone is keen on them, I love a nice cashew nut loaf (but too lazy to usually make them myself). Just mentioning in case your DD would be interested.

BlackeyedGruesome · 23/03/2019 15:19

Thank you that is kind. She is, unfortunately, allergic to cashews, peanuts, and egg and anaphylactic to pistachio. Milk makes her feel poorly.

She eats lots of seeds on her cereal ( pumpkin, sunflower, poppy, milled linseed, hemp, sesame) has B12 fortified cereal and milk, will need a B12 supplément for Children soon.and got to find a source of iodine that is not fish or milk.

What with potential Brexit shortages as well making everything tricky.... But at least I have a stock of children's vitamins in already.

BlackeyedGruesome · 23/03/2019 15:25

Sainsbury's was busier than normal, but as I only go in the week normally that is to be expected. Went for t shirts for school play and did a top up only from Sainsbury's shop, antibac and squash and replacing a sweet chilli sauce i extracted from under a sleeping boy. They also have £2 shreddies so more of those for under the stairs. And I got three as Asda are only selling them in pairs for £4.

AnnaNutherThing · 23/03/2019 16:03

Re iodine source, Cerebos salt is iodised, it's available at Sainsb's.

Since only need trace amounts are needed it could work.

BlackeyedGruesome · 23/03/2019 16:07

Great, thanks. Will look for it next time I go. Will be good to have in and easy to put a little in her dinner.

Moorfields · 24/03/2019 19:26

Went to my local butchers yesterday & bought £50 of meat, chicken & sausages. I got loads for my money & the meat was better quality than the supermarkets.

BlackeyedGruesome · 25/03/2019 12:27

Have you frozen it using the library method?

BlackeyedGruesome · 25/03/2019 12:32

I am clearing out the plate cupboard having dropped lots of clean dishes on the floor on Saturday trying to access my Brexit stash of chocolate digestives which I accidentally ate in two days. Fucking menopause.

I need to put the flask away and then restash the loot. I will need to restock on Thursday. this is why most of the junk food is stored at the back of the understairs cupboard under lots of other things as I just cannot be trusted to not eat it all in one go.

NoWordForFluffy · 25/03/2019 12:48

I've come to the end of my forward-purchasing budget now. Just 'normal' shopping from now on!

I've got to sow more seeds later today; prepare for feeding us myself later in the year!

tobee · 25/03/2019 13:54

What are people's thoughts/plans re power cuts? Both electricity and gas?
