Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

I went to Aldi and Sainsbury's today and noticed loads of things I usually buy had gone up, not by a few pence either but by 20-30% think they are preempting price rises, Sainsbury's own loo roll had been £3 for years £3.50 today.

FriarTuck · 02/03/2019 16:55

Oh ffs FIG biscuits!
That makes more sense Grin I wondered if I was missing out on something. I even entered it on Ocado in the hope it might help but it suggested dog biscuits instead (DDog says she thinks gravy bones could be added to the stores too)

NoWordForFluffy · 02/03/2019 17:01

Sainsbury's 9 roll loo roll went down to £3.00 but then up to £3.30 not long after that. All of their prices go up in Jan then a few months' later they do a big song and dance about lowering prices, which then go down to the previous year's price for a short while before creeping up again. I've abandoned them for the practice this year.

IDoN0tCare · 02/03/2019 17:01

rosie39forever, I think we’ll see a lot of that. Prices can, according to the experts, be expected to raise from anywhere in the range of 20-50%. The big shops aren’t going to suddenly put up their prices, but might raise it week by week. There’s no way that they’re going to wait and see if Brexit is delayed. It’s too risky for them.

StuntEgg · 02/03/2019 17:37

Hey @SparklySneakers,

How long a date so you have on your Jaffa Cakes? Longest I can find is 3rd May. Not that they'll last that long once the children spot them...

I strongly suspect my local Tesco is only putting old stuff on offer, so not a great shelf life for lots of things.

SparklySneakers · 02/03/2019 17:40

Oh god I'd better check!

mum2jakie · 02/03/2019 18:02

I've paused adding new things to the pile due to new job. At the same time, we've been dipping into the Brexit supplies! At least we know the sponge puddings (from Farmfoods) and individual Ambrosia custards will go down well with the kids...

StuntEgg · 02/03/2019 18:03

Yes, do! The triple packs seem to only have a few weeks' on them...

Maykid · 02/03/2019 18:06

So is everyone still stockpiling ? Do you still think the worst will happen? I’ve done a lot but could still do more I guess.

SparklySneakers · 02/03/2019 18:10

11th May. No need to use them up quickly. They don't last long once opened in this house.

BlackeyedGruesome · 02/03/2019 18:16

Still stockpiling. DD knows where two stashes are but not the others. She has been told not to tell. They are both out so going to reorganise another one to fit more in.

Going to put some washing on, wash up then go through my lists to work out what I have got and what I still need. Fridge sorting needs to be done too.

Cloudtree · 02/03/2019 18:18

Im still bulk buying offers.

bellinisurge · 02/03/2019 18:21

I add bits and bobs as I see fit but I've had a well stocked buffer of food etc for yonks. I actually have to restrain my dh.

StuntEgg · 02/03/2019 18:22

Thanks @SparklySneakers,

At least I know that they aren't any longer date ones out there for me to hunt down!

wherearemychickens · 02/03/2019 18:34

I'm getting to my limit of sensibleness now in terms of how much food we've got - I think if we were eating it exclusively, we might last six to eight weeks now. We would get very fed up of pasta, rice, beans and red lentils though. And porridge made with water for breakfast.

IDoN0tCare · 02/03/2019 19:06

wherearemychickens, get some good quality oat milk, such as The Original Oatly Barista. It doesn’t need to be refrigerated until it’s opened and doesn’t curdle in hot drinks.

I may be ok if I ration my sweet supply. After all there are two of us here. 😁

We eat a lot of pasta rice lentils and beans all the time, I prefer porridge made with water.

Have lots of turmeric and cumin, herbs and garlic to make it all taste lovely.

Moorfields · 02/03/2019 22:08

I cook a lot of Indian recipes and use this vegetarian website a fair bit. I keep a very well stocked spice cupboard & have lots of beans, pulses, rice and frozen vegetables. So it's easy for me to cook flavoursome recipes.

SparklySneakers · 02/03/2019 22:41

I'm wondering where to stash crisps where the children won't find them. The dates on the ones I got this week are only a couple of months. Not sure how long Pringles and kettle chips last. They go through crisps so quickly!

Moorfields · 02/03/2019 22:46

@SparklySneakers I've hidden all the treats inside the suitcases in the kids bedrooms! They've not suspected anything yet!

wherearemychickens · 02/03/2019 22:47

Thanks for the Oatly recommendation - I have got a couple of chocolate flavoured ones, but hadn't thought about it for making porridge.

That also looks like a fab website, thank you for posting that link Moorfields.

chillinapot · 02/03/2019 23:01

English food is gruesome at the best of times.

To be stuck in a moronic totalitarian shit hole with so many moronic totalitarians with even less shit food to eat is a nightmare.

Brexit.

chillinapot · 02/03/2019 23:12

Morons, as usual, won't be able to feed themselves unassisted.

But those charming fascists who are out regularly in central London will probably be able to use other means to acquire food.

Which is probably the point of brexit.

Sort of why we had the EU in the first place.

Live and learn, one might say, except they won't be able to do either.

ChakiraChakra · 02/03/2019 23:17

Regarding oat milk, it is very inexpensive to make yourself :) just oats and water and a muslin cloth. You can add vanilla, a date or any type of sweetener to it or have it plain, and storing a bag of oats is a lot less bulk than the equivalent of oatly bottles :)

The downside is, it isn't oatly, which is delicious, and doesn't settle like homemade does.

chillinapot · 02/03/2019 23:20

Sounds gross, Chakira sorry.

"Making stinky pretend food, is no cure for fascism" as my granny used to say.
