"At this festive season of the year, Mr Scrooge Rees-Mogg, ... it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the poor and destitute, who suffer greatly at the present time. Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts, sir."

"Are there no prisons hostels?"

"Plenty of prisons hostels..."

"And the Union workhouses foodbanks." demanded Scrooge Jacob. "Are they still in operation?"

"Both very busy, sir..."

"Those who are badly off must go there."

"Many can't go there; and many would rather die."

"If they would rather die," said Scrooge ^Rees-Mogg, "they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."

He continued "Besides I do not believe that anyone would die without them. I think Theresa is right, there are many complex reasons why nurses go to food banks. The real reason for the rise in numbers is that people know that they are there and Labour deliberately didn't tell them. To have charitable support given by people voluntarily to support their fellow citizens I think is rather uplifting and shows what a good, compassionate country we are"

This thread is dedicated to Mrs8 and anyone else who is working to make life just a little better in the difficult circumstances that ALL politicians are currently doing their best to ignore (despite what they profess).

No Deal = even more poverty and destitution.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HERES HOPING FOR A HAPPIER NEW YEAR
especially to those of you, who might be having a tough time or facing real uncertainity.

Listened to the Queen's speech. 'Treating other human beings with respect and understanding is always a good first step'. Morals 101. I thought the government would do well to listen.

Merry Christmas everyone. Our day started so late after watching a film last night we haven’t even started our turkey yet! Peaceful day , just got back from a local walk before the dark and fog really set in.

(Practising for our trip to Shetland at the end of the week. Where it will be dark a lot of the time. )

Fuuuuuccckkkkk you have all just reminded me that we have not touched the vienneta DH bought in the Coop £5 meal deal earlier this week.

If we don't eat it tonight there is no room for the left over sausages in the freezer and we are now a 4 year old down to take on this task.

I don't even particularly like vienneta. I want profitaroles.

Damn you Mrs8

Time for more gin.

Calorie cap for ready meals and restaurants proposed...

Nothing to do with Brexit. Its to combat obesity.

Certainly doing that right now 😁

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 25/12/2018 22:16

DH extends his thanks red as he'd forgotten the Viennetta in the freezer too. He's happily tucking in now. Before the calorie count kicks in Wink

Sostenueto · 25/12/2018 22:35

Hope everyone's day has been wonderful as mine has been. Here's to the new yearWine may you all have health and love.
I had to dish up 4 different starters ( soup, sushi, prawn cocktail and garlic mushrooms all with homemade rolls) then 3 different meats none of which was turkey as no one really likes it for the main along with traditional trimmings, then 3 different desserts, ( homemade hot chocolate fudge cake, Xmas pudd and dairy free ice cream also homemade) then cheeseboard. After that lot everyone was so stuffed there was no inclination for arguments be it brexit or sibling rivalry! Stuff 'em silly and then peace! Great plan!!

A McDonald's Big Tasty with bacon is 850calories. Add a medium fries which is 337calories and you are way over that limit.

A chicken rasuikaree at wagamamas is 1220calories.

A standard margerita pizza at pizza express is 834 calories (add up to an extra 200 calories for your toppings).

I've just eaten a chocolate coffee bean for the first time. What the fudge is that? I think they'll still be here long after the last tin of Brexit beans is eaten.

Hazardswan · 26/12/2018 01:03

Oh I like chocolate coated coffee beans. I once munched through two little boxes of them while drinking coffee at cafe neros...not my best idea was very jittery and had a racing heart beat Xmas Blush

Christmas is over for another year. Let the boxing day left overs begin Grin

frumpety · 26/12/2018 07:07

Happy belated Christmas everyone, had the day off ( a rare event )yesterday, so spent it with family, talk of Brexit was banned. Back to work today.

Wouldn't discuss Brexit with my Mother anyway, she is incapable of having a conversation about the subject without turning nasty.

Hasenstein · 26/12/2018 09:48

Promised myself a Brexit-free Christmas, then DS ruined it by getting me a tablet computer thingy and all I could think of to try it out was to come on here for a sneaky catch-up.

Screwed up my big moment for Christmas lunch. Bought a goose, which I'd never done before and only found out too late that it's a good idea to take the legs off before roasting, as they take longer to cook than the rest (breast). So did it all in one and we had perfectly cooked legs and dry as hell breast. Still, at least my red cabbage and apple was a huge hit.

Hope you all had a great Christmases. We've got one DS & DiL here from Japan and other DS from Leeds, so first time we've had everyone together for 7 years. Bliss Grin
