Westministenders: BAH HUMBUG said Mr Rees-Mogg

"At this festive season of the year, Mr Scrooge Rees-Mogg, ... it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the poor and destitute, who suffer greatly at the present time. Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts, sir."

"Are there no prisons hostels?"

"Plenty of prisons hostels..."

"And the Union workhouses foodbanks." demanded Scrooge Jacob. "Are they still in operation?"

"Both very busy, sir..."

"Those who are badly off must go there."

"Many can't go there; and many would rather die."

"If they would rather die," said Scrooge ^Rees-Mogg, "they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."

He continued "Besides I do not believe that anyone would die without them. I think Theresa is right, there are many complex reasons why nurses go to food banks. The real reason for the rise in numbers is that people know that they are there and Labour deliberately didn't tell them. To have charitable support given by people voluntarily to support their fellow citizens I think is rather uplifting and shows what a good, compassionate country we are"

No Deal = even more poverty and destitution.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HERES HOPING FOR A HAPPIER NEW YEAR

Nice breakfast there mrs8

My 5 year old has had pizza for breakfast Xmas Blush Please don’t judge he’s as skinny as a skinny thing and it’s Christmas Grin

Sorry about the goose hassan

I’m slightly hungover. But it could be worse.

Quietrebel · 26/12/2018 11:28

Having turkey breast leftovers (cold), gherkins, scrambled eggs, toast and very strong coffee (yes, just a tiny bit hungover...). DDs had a good start with porridge, but proceeded with finishing the last of the chocolate log!

pointythings · 26/12/2018 11:37

No hangovers here. I had leftover cheese and spinach wellington for breakfast and a salted caramel topped GF banoffee muffin for dessert breakfast. With cardamom coffee.

DD2 is currently winning the health award by frying up leftover roasties with bacon.

We don't have a lot of leftovers and will be eating sensibly tonight, but there is a lot of chocolate in the house.

These calorie limits just make me want to sprinkle lard and sugar on everything I cook.

All this talk of food is taking me back to bread and dripping. Nice white bread with a 3mm layer of beef dripping with a good sprinkling of salt.

lonelyplanetmum · 26/12/2018 12:02

Our breakfast was normal - just scrambled eggs (compared to you weird lot!).

But last night everyone said they didn't want anything at all... absolutely nothing err so we had a cup of tea with orange chocolate florentines, Harry Potter chocolate bars, artistically sort of painted M&S chocolates, salted caramel coated nuts, Christmas cake, tunnocks tea cakes and two people had butternut squash soup.

I haven't HAD bread and dripping for 50 years. I actually had a jacket potato with cheese and some lettuce. Dessert later was most of a large bar of chocolate and a couple of small glasses of wine.

Mrs8 whilst this particular thread is dedicated to you . I think you are now just showing off Grin

—Can I come, it sounds delicious—

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 26/12/2018 12:16

I've 12/14 coming for a boxing day buffet

Shock you’re brave and it sounds amazing. I’m sure you have enough pudding.

RedToothBrush · 26/12/2018 12:18

I had half a grapefruit for breakfast.

Then tucked into my box of chocolates.

Will boxes of chocolates be limited in size to stop obseity?

I think we are repeating yesterday again later but this time hopefully with Xmas pudding that we were too stuffed to eat yesterday. DH cooked for about 10 yesterday I reckon. There were 3 of us. Quite a bit has already been frozen

I had a banana for breakfastand a very large mug of tea.

DoctorTwo · 26/12/2018 12:20

There's such a thing as leftover cheese? I had no idea Shock

BigChocFrenzy · 26/12/2018 12:22

MrsR8 That's terrible 😱 .... where's the chocolate !😂

BigChocFrenzy · 26/12/2018 12:23

oops, I was admiring your breakfast, Mrsr8 when iPad burped up a load more posts

BigChocFrenzy · 26/12/2018 12:26

red If the govt want real social unrest, regardless of whether Brexit happens ...

limiting the size of chocs would be effective
and all the other junk we love

I don't believe any govt with an ounce of self-preservation would put thos recommended junk portions into law

This morning, I was one of the eager beavers queueing at 09:50 in the gym porch
It's been closed 2 days < shudder >

I did 40 minutes weight-lifting, then a spin class 😇
I had plenty of Christmas fuel for energy !

Quietrebel · 26/12/2018 12:44

mrsr8

It would be fun indeed!

My plan for March 30th is to blast Ode to Joy at the crack of dawn. On the morning of the 24th June 16, one of our leaver neighbours drove around blasting Jerusalem from his car so I thought of repaying this. No one could complain as if brexit HAS indeed happened, he should be happy, shouldn't he? Remainer neighbours would approve so all good.

RedToothBrush · 26/12/2018 12:58

A pre Brexit party sounds fun. Euro attire optional.

I must admit to harbouring rebellious thoughts of flying the EU flag on 30th March.

HesterThrale · 26/12/2018 13:00

pointy I love the idea of ‘dessert breakfast’! Why have I never thought of that?

And I also feel I’ll need some sort of antidote to my 29th March feelings. Will have to plan something...

Hazardswan · 26/12/2018 13:02

Pringles! I never brought Pringles.

I had rocky road squares for breakfast and a sandwich filled with stuffing and condiments. Pringles would have balanced it out perfectly.

Quietrebel · 26/12/2018 13:09

Regardless of politics, Ode to Joy is truly beautiful and uplifting. I found this translation:

O friends, no more these sounds!
Let us sing more cheerful songs,
more full of joy!
Joy, bright spark of divinity,
Daughter of Elysium,
Fire-inspired we tread
Thy sanctuary.
Thy magic power re-unites
All that custom has divided,
All men become brothers
Under the sway of thy gentle wings.
Whoever has created
An abiding friendship,
Or has won
A true and loving wife,
All who can call at least one soul theirs,
Join in our song of praise;
But any who cannot must creep tearfully
Away from our circle.
All creatures drink of joy
At nature's breast.
Just and unjust
Alike taste of her gift;
She gave us kisses and the fruit of the vine,
A tried friend to the end.
Even the worm can feel contentment,
And the cherub stands before God!
Gladly, like the heavenly bodies
Which He set on their courses
Through the splendor of the firmament;
Thus, brothers, you should run your race,
As a hero going to conquest.
You millions, I embrace you.
This kiss is for all the world!

BigChocFrenzy · 26/12/2018 13:13

Hester Profiteroles sound good
And suitably European

Rebel Ode to Joy would work whether we have left or not.
I have a very fast, jazzed up version which I blast out on long walks

BigChocFrenzy · 26/12/2018 13:15

That is a lovely translation - my track is just trance music
