Westministenders: BAH HUMBUG said Mr Rees-Mogg

"At this festive season of the year, Mr Scrooge Rees-Mogg, ... it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the poor and destitute, who suffer greatly at the present time. Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts, sir."

"Are there no prisons hostels?"

"Plenty of prisons hostels..."

"And the Union workhouses foodbanks." demanded Scrooge Jacob. "Are they still in operation?"

"Both very busy, sir..."

"Those who are badly off must go there."

"Many can't go there; and many would rather die."

"If they would rather die," said Scrooge ^Rees-Mogg, "they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."

He continued "Besides I do not believe that anyone would die without them. I think Theresa is right, there are many complex reasons why nurses go to food banks. The real reason for the rise in numbers is that people know that they are there and Labour deliberately didn't tell them. To have charitable support given by people voluntarily to support their fellow citizens I think is rather uplifting and shows what a good, compassionate country we are"

This thread is dedicated to Mrs8 and anyone else who is working to make life just a little better in the difficult circumstances that ALL politicians are currently doing their best to ignore (despite what they profess).

No Deal = even more poverty and destitution.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HERES HOPING FOR A HAPPIER NEW YEAR
especially to those of you, who might be having a tough time or facing real uncertainity.

Merry Christmas everyone.
Got up early in anticipation for the DC doing so. They're still fast asleep. Mainlining Brew now to get through the day.

Merry Christmas everyone thanks for the birthday wishes (and cake Bigchoc!) yesterday.

lonelyplanetmum · 25/12/2018 08:04

Happy Birthdays and Merry Magical Christmases to everyone, especially to any Westminsterender children. My youngest is now (amazingly) sitting waiting for the older DC to wake up!

And for us all, a truly miraculous and somehow new 2019. x

Belated happy birthday to you singing

turkeyboots · 25/12/2018 09:15

Merry Christmas everyone. From a Day One lurker.

Am an ex civil servant from one of the majorly impacted Depts. I'm now one of many Irish people quietly leaving the UK. You have all helped keep me sane since the referendum as your analysis was similar to mine, so it wasn't just me being super paranoid. You have all my hopes for a peaceful 2019 and prayers for a revoke.

wherearemychickens · 25/12/2018 09:20

Happy Christmas to everyone writing on, and reading, this thread - here's hoping next year will see an end to the Brexit mess!

HesterThrale · 25/12/2018 09:20

Best wishes turkeyboots with your future in Ireland. Our loss. I think we’ll come to regret losing all these good people.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Merry Christmas everyone Wine

DP nose dived yesterday and we had to cancel Xmas eve plans. Thankfully we avioded A&E. It's looking like he'll be asleep most the day and dosed up on extra meds. illness doesn't take time off for festivities.

Anyway..I've had chocolate for breakfast and I'm snuggled up next to sleepy DP and Ddog feeling grateful that the 3 of us have made it this far. I love my imperfect family very, very much.

I hope everyone here has an imperfectly perfect day filled with love. May 2019 run smoothly for us all and all our revoke dreams come true.

Merry Christmas everyone Xmas Smile

The joy of following the Danish tradition (at least with regards to eating Xmas Wink) is that all my hard work was done last night, when I hosted Christmas Dinner for 10, with a brined roast turkey (no picture of the finished roast) and a glazed ham, followed by Danish rice pudding (sweet rice risotto with chopped almonds and whipped cream folded through it, with one whole almond for the almond prize only this year someone must have crunched the whole almonds Xmas Hmm), so today I can relax! Xmas Grin

My niece's boyfriend (from Essex Xmas Wink) had to defend himself against everyone else as he tried to claim that the EU would be a lot worse off than the UK as a result of Brexit. I missed the discussion as I was through in the kitchen getting the gravy ready.

Merry Christmas everyone. I’m helping out at Crisis at Christmas. I’m enjoying it although I feel angry that it’s necessary.
The place is absolutely packed. It’s restored my faith in humanity a bit.
Hazard I hope DH is on the mend Flowers
This will be my first alcohol free Christmas barring pregnancies, for 32 years!

Merry Christmas everybody.
I am surviving on industrial quantities of Sudafed and Gluwein
DH is playing increasingly crap Christmas music while he cooks
kids are chilling
not a bad way to spend a grey December day

A long time lurker delurking to wish you all a very Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.

Lets hope 2019 is better than we have hoped. The clever, humorous, insightful minds who contribute to this thread, give me faith that whatever happens, we will somehow get through it. Not because of politicians, but because of sensible, moderate people like the Westminstenders.

Merry Christmas, turkeyboots
and best wishes for your future, sadly outside the UK

I'm sorry to hear of the Irish exodus - whether that is because of concern about jobs & career prospects, or feeling unwelcome

This Brexit mess is costing the country talent that may be as important for the future as the lost jobs & profits

BigChocFrenzy · 25/12/2018 16:02

Danish rice pud sounds amazing, pretty

Best wishes to you and your DP, Hazard
A much quieter Christmas than you planned, but at least you're all snuggling together, with ddog too

A very grey Christmas here on the Rhine, but I managed a good walk between the showers.

pointythings · 25/12/2018 16:08

We are just revving up to Christmas dinner here. No turkey - DD2 and I are having duck breast, DD1 who is veggie is having a spinach, pine nut and 3 cheese wellington. Usual roasties, veg and Yorkshires (the gluten free ones are bought) are in preparation and DD2 has made the most amazing gluten free banana and fudge chunk mini muffins this world has ever seen.

No alcohol has been consumed yet, we are very moderate in that regard. I will have some wine later, but my late H was an alcoholic so we are a little wary of that particular beast. But for our first Christmas without him it's going swimmingly.
