Well worth a read and fairly sobering stuff.

Where exactly are companies supposed to put all this extra product? How do they pay for creating it and housing it for months on end?

@Motheroffourdragons - it's a kind of "keep laundry white" kind of thing. Glowhite before glowhite.

For some reason, the BBC hasn't seen fit to make it available.

It's on YouTube though. Still haven't got round to watching it myself.

I must find out what the "blue" actually was. I can't imagine that they bought it.
BTW I am sure people know this, but a lot of the "how to" stuff is on YouTube. We had to check how to plait the onion crop this morning.

Dolly blue, made by Reckitt & Coleman. My grandma used to buy it - she worked there before she was married and was very brand loyalSmile

EmilyAlice · 30/07/2018 13:48

Yes in England I remember dolly blue. But this is rural Normandy and I am not sure there would have been sous to spare to buy anything. The really remarkable thing was that my neighbour took it all to the river to wash (down a fairly steep slope) and that there were eight children to wash for. Her stories of rural life are fascinating and include using Calvados as an antiseptic!

I believe very firmly Brexit is a bad idea and will make us all poorer, but I think we are over thinking this. The government is stockpiling as the borders may be clogged up slowing down the delivery of food.

This is the fault of the government not getting us prepared for a hard Brexit.

But food will still come in and I have no real doubt everyone will be fed. There may well be temporary shortages.

bellinisurge · 30/07/2018 14:39

@SoloD - the government appears to be asking supermarkets to do the stockpiling and have been told that the supermarkets do not have the capacity or infrastructure to do this.
I predict a wobble in food supply and am planning for it.

I'm guessing there's a lot of posters here who only wear seatbelts because it's the law ?
