Westminstenders: The Maddest of May and Boris's Dare

Boris Johnson just dared May to fire him.

That's what his little rant about £350 million buses is.

Meanwhile its been pointed out that HMRC literally are incapable of handling a no deal and can only cope with an EEA / EFTA deal with no tariffs.

And given how good and on time the government are with computer systems even in a best case scenario are extremely unlikely to crack it in time.

Which makes Hammond's talk of a civil contingence plan, look, well half arsed and lacking.

We also wouldn't have planes able to fly to Europe under a no deal as we would no longer be part of Open Skies. This could leave thousands stranded. But no biggie there.

Meanwhile if the Leave Alliance have things right, May is about to serve our one year notice on leaving the EEA making all these things a reality.

Which is less like shooting yourself in the head and more like shooting yourself in the head, chest, foot, arm, leg and face (for a second time), whilst being run over at the same time.

But hey, Boris Johnson has it sussed in his 10 point plan. Especially the point where he says Brexit will be a success.

If you call success ending democracy, becoming a dictatorship, starving everyone, bankrupting the country and causing civil unrest.

Rule Britannia.

Protestors wrecking BBC coverage. Grin

woman11017 · 22/09/2017 14:13

You couldn't make this up: speech is in an ex police barracks, BBC news has just cut away because protestors made interview impossible.

Badders08 · 22/09/2017 14:16

My late dad was Derbyshire born and bred.
But...had jet black hair and very dark eyes.
He also tanned very quickly and his skin was a gorgeous very deep brown colour
One night he was sat in his car in the car park waiting to pick my mum up from work
One of her colleagues came into the staff room and told the assembled staff that there was a "half caste" in a car in the car park and should she call the police!!
Mum found this pretty funny tbh but I was horrified. This was in the early 90s not the bloody 50s!

IdontlooklikeEmmaWatson · 22/09/2017 14:19

"half caste" Shock Angry

Badders08 · 22/09/2017 14:22

Yep

Badders08 · 22/09/2017 14:23

Not sure my dad minded either - neither understood my horror really.
I secretly think dad thought it meant he looked like Omar shariff!! 😁
sadly not!!
--sorry dad!!-

Dh is as far as we are aware 100% Scottish, with maybe some Norn Irish in there, yet has black eyes, dark hair and olive skin. In fact, when my best friend first met him to vet him Wink, she said something along the lines of, "So what are your racial origins?" Shock

To which he answered "100% Scottish, thank you very much" She can't talk as she herself is dark eyed, olive skinned and dark haired and half Scottish, half Dutch Grin

We think that there is a ship-wrecked Spaniard from the Armada in there somewhere Wink

Cherrypi · 22/09/2017 14:27

Anybody watching the coverage? Hope that telegraph rumour is wrong.

woman11017 · 22/09/2017 14:28

Thanks BCF and Idont. It's a pretty modest wee bit of racism (specially as I just think I'm a member of the human one) really compared to deportations and deaths in custody, but it was revealing. I've thought about what it was and why it happened. It does come down to decency.

@carldinnen
Who goes all the way to the epicentre of the Renaissance for a press conference then sticks up a bland white screen behind the podium?
Grin

BBC coverage is revolting.
The room has been cleaned up before the meeting. Grin she's been put in a disused room in an old barracks. No one from Italian gov is there.

I've been called Fenian and Taig several times in the past 6 months. (Hadn't been for years and years before this.) When challenged, apparently it was meant affectionately or as a joke. Hmm

Cabinet taking seats. I'm hoping May gets on with the speech before I have to leave on school run.

IdontlooklikeEmmaWatson · 22/09/2017 14:33

"mass migration and terrorism are the biggest challenges" nice bit of nasty rhetoric.

Somerville · 22/09/2017 14:34

She's so patronising to Europe. "Exciting times for you too!"

woman11017 · 22/09/2017 14:35

She says she's committed to the rule of law, which is a bit of a surprise.

IdontlooklikeEmmaWatson · 22/09/2017 14:35

hahahahaha "direct accountability of their politicians"! the cheek.

QuentinSummers · 22/09/2017 14:36

Oh this is awful. I hate shes lumping all of us into this jingoistic "British people Angry

IdontlooklikeEmmaWatson · 22/09/2017 14:37

Get on with it Ms May. So far, so waffle. Drop the bombshell.

This is like a long essay introduction when you have done no work.

Is that chain around her neck symbolic? Grin

prettybird · 22/09/2017 14:38

"We have never really felt part of/committed to the EU".

Speak for yourself woman I mean May Angry

You are conflating the Conservative Party's antipathy towards the EU and mutual benefit with what the UK - and more importantly, its constituent nations - actually thinks. Many of us are happy with what the EU has done for us.

Somerville · 22/09/2017 14:40

We've never felt toatally at home in the EU, dontcha know.

On that, baby puked down my shoulder.

LurkingHusband · 22/09/2017 14:41

Good idea, the Maserati ....

prettybird · 22/09/2017 14:42

What a load of fucking waffle. Angry

And to then claim that everyone has confidence in the UK courts and legal system Shock - when her own Home Secretary is in contempt of court. Angry

Eeeeeowwwfftz · 22/09/2017 14:42

What the fuck is the point of this?

woman11017 · 22/09/2017 14:43

How's baby Somerville? Smile
