If you want to leave the EU and voted Labour, tell your MP or candidate

The Labour manifesto promised to honour the referendum result, leave the EU, end freedom of movement and leave the single market.

I am aware that not everyone who voted Labour wants to leave the EU, but many do. In addition many who voted remain want to see the referendum result honoured even though they would not have chosen to leave initially.

Many people, including politicians, are now trying to present votes for Labour as votes against Brexit, against leaving the single market and in favour of freedom of movement. This is the opposite of what is in the Labour manifesto, and is a lie.

If you voted Labour believing that Labour would honour the referendum result and their manifesto promises to leave the EU, leave the single market and end freedom of movement, please be aware that some people are trying to "reinterpret" your vote as a vote against Brexit.

It looks like Brexit will be negotiated by a cross party group, and the views of Labour MPs and the Labour party are very important.

A "soft" Brexit, in the single market and with freedom of movement, is basically no Brexit. It just means we carry on as we are but without being party to EU decision making.

If you are concerned about this, you should consider letting your MP know. You should be able to find their email by googling.

We got a Labour MP, despite being tipped to get a Tory.

I wrote to them about an hour after they won to congratulate them, but let them know when the next election comes, they would not get my vote if there if they are wedded to Leave.

I have done the same thank you for the push, Labour campaigned on a promise to honour this it's really wrong to reinterpret votes to mean something they didn't.

I'm a labour remainer voter. This was in the manifesto.

Strong emphasis on retaining benefits of single market & customs union

Not putting immigration over jobs and Jeremy Corbyn refused to even say immigration wouldn't go up.

There has to be some sort of a compromise, because at the moment absolutely no one seems to be getting what they want.

MrsKennington The Labour manifesto had a clear statement that

Freedom of movement will end when we leave the European Union

which means leaving the Single Market as the EU have always been very clear that the four freedoms are indivisible.

For what it's worth, I think the manifesto is irrelevant.

It'll be the next manifesto that will be key. The one before the election we will be having before too long.

Is there any poll data on how many leave voters want to leave the single market?

If it's to do with immigration then they've said both that FOM will end AND that immigration won't be placed over jobs and might go up. Hmmmmm.

Based on that poll Cross if you could the blue as hard Brexit, the grey as it's done now just get on with it (people I don't imagine being bothered overly much about SM) and hard remainers is 50/50

No party is going to get an overall majority without a fair amount of leavers and remainers.

I think you are probably right on that. I have asked Labour supporters why, if they believe Labour want to stay in the EU and would not Brexit if they had won, Labour didn't say that in their manifesto. But no-one has answered. Otherwise they are just tricking leave supporters to vote for them. It seems some Labour supporters wouldn't have a problem with this which I find very strange, and totally anti-democratic. (I'm not saying that is Labour's strategy btw).

On the single market, I believe most leave voters have ending freedom of movement and leaving the single market as their red line. There is little point leaving the EU without doing these, in fact it just increases the power of the EU over the UK as we would not be participating in decision making.

I voted Labour and I will write to tell them he will only get my vote again if he backs the wishes of his constituents which was Remain. Thanks for the reminder, OP!

Well, if there was nothing wrong with putting "Vote Leave to give £350 million per week for the NHS" on the side of a bus, why get all concerned about voters being lied to now? The lesson politicians have learned from the EURef is that anything goes to get people to vote for your side, after which you can just say "Ah, that was just an illustration".

So Pippa you are expecting Labour to do the opposite of their manifesto commitment? Why do you think they put honouring the referendum, leaving the single market and ending freedom of movement in their manifesto?

This is a war, so there's strategy, and tactics.

The strategy is to reverse the - at best dodgy - decision of 23rd June.

It has just reminded ne to write to my MP to remind them that, even though I have voted labour, this was NOT an acceptance for a hard brexit or brexit at all (because lets be honest, there isnt a party that is actually currently representing the 48% of the population that has voted NO to get of the EU)
