I was thinking about how I could sum up the general election campaign and well. This said it all.

I cannot get over Labour calling Stockton South. James Wharton increased his majority to 5,000 last time. Unbelievable. #GE2017
Robert Peston‏*@Peston*

This would be a catastrophe for @theresa_may and the Tories. Would suggest result even worse for Tories than exit poll

YouGov 302. Exit Poll 314.

You can almost see George Osbourne is licking his lips can't you?

prettybird · 09/06/2017 01:36

Dh is chuntering on about the SNP campaign having been wrong. He says they should have said more strongly that if we want to have a voice - and that includes a 2nd referendum - then we can't assume that Labour will do that and that you need to vote SNP. he says it a wee bit more forcefully than that Wink He thinks the SNP should have taken it to the Tories and Labour and LibDems - and said explicitly if you want it to be about the 2nd Indyref, then let's make it about the 2nd Indyref.

I'm not sure I agree with him - but I see where he is coming from. I think poor turnout due to the shitty weather has been a factor. In the last that used to hit complacent Labour voters - but those complacent voters are now SNP Confused

Vistaverde · 09/06/2017 01:37

I hope I'm not too late to join in. I tried to get some sleep but have been lying awake in bed for the last hour.

Suggestions that Nick Clegg might have lost his seat.

Eeeeeowwwfftz · 09/06/2017 01:37

Carlisle was 'lean labour' in the noise

Eeeeeowwwfftz · 09/06/2017 01:38

Snp - when you're at the top there's only one place to go. It's just a correction, and very healthy for Scottish democracy to have some pluralism.

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2017 01:38

The Cons SHOULD still be the largest party.

If the CONS can not get a majority, its CONs plus DUP (Don't think about that. Its not nice). If they can't get that, then we go to scenario 2.

Labour extremely unlikely to get a majority government. It would have to be a Labour / SNP coalition. And possibly a minority government at that.

LDs therefore become important. Have said tonight they WILL NOT enter a coalition. Therefore, vote by vote. Lots of compromising going on, and lots of power for the few LDs there are.

If LDs decide to play tough in that situation - collapse of government.

Don't forget the Brexit clock is ticking....

I've just seen a turnout of over 74%

(NI) DUP hold Strangford, unsurprisingly.

Bury North, a pro-Brexit northern constituency held by Tories in 2010 and 2015, looks to have gone Labour, says BuzzFeed's @HannahAlOthman.

lalalonglegs · 09/06/2017 01:41

I bet George Osborne is regretting resigning from Tatton now.

Can we honestly see Brexit happening now?

Eeeeeowwwfftz · 09/06/2017 01:41

Clywd 3.4% swing to Lab.

Badders123 · 09/06/2017 01:42

Come on!!!!

Yessssss

Badders123 · 09/06/2017 01:43

I was thinking that lala

citroenpresse · 09/06/2017 01:43

Labour clearly picking up UKIP votes ...this is so weird for any Brexit analysis.

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2017 01:44

Of course Labour might not want the poison chalice. They might let the Tories get on with it as a minority.

I think I might do that if I were them...

How strange the tory posters seem quiet currently Hmm

prettybird · 09/06/2017 01:44

Dh is also chuntering in about how Scotland is descending into sectarian politics. I hope he is wrong Sad

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2017 01:45

Brexit is looking rather squishy.
I wouldn't say its off. But its squishy.

LemonSalad · 09/06/2017 01:45

We'll need a new thread very soon.....

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2017 01:45

I would say that the Trumpian Alliance is DEFINITELY off.
